LOWER COLUMBIA CLASSIC CAR CLUB 1 FEBRUARY 2017 From the Prez. Just that quickly January has passed and we are planning for the new auto events season. New event calendars are out and just loaded with things to spend your summer doing. Coming fast is our very own Astoria Swap Meet on March 11th, and our committee is busy getting ready for that. As a reminder, should any of you have old parts that you don t have use for, Fred is still looking for items for the club booth. Either drop them by at Clatsop Power, or give Fred a phone call and let him know what s available. On January 29th, thirty four members attended a lunch at the Columbia River Roadhouse in Chinook, WA. and enjoyed a good meal and some great time socializing. There was plenty of room and good service by some friendly folks. We ll have more of these socials before spring - so plan to join us at one of them. Your club board members will meet on the 8th of February and will no doubt have the results for you at the next meeting. I ll see you at our February 16th meeting. Steve Jordan This License Plate Plaque will soon be available to all LCC members for a very reasonable price. Contact Steve Jordan 503-325-1807 for details. Maybe you would like to get a Club Jacket? We have found a resource which will sell the Jacket, put on a patch, Steve also has this information and contacts.

LOWER COLUMBIA CLASSIC CAR CLUB 3 Ramblin `Round With Steve I don t know about the rest of you, but I m busy getting my car ready for the coming season. Don t know if I ll get it all done in time or not, but I ll give it the old college try. We haven t any big tour plans as of yet, although some of my friends have mentioned a trip or two. One thing that I was told, was that if I plan to have Judy travel with me and we go east - we will have AC. Don t know about that yet. Sounds like we might be limited to the coast! Closer to home - last Sunday afternoon about thirty four members met at the Columbia River Roadhouse Café in Chinook, Wa. and enjoyed a good lunch and lots of gabbing. A great place for a lazy Sunday afternoon. (we picked one with no football games and small crowds) It was such an awesome day on Saturday that Judy and I decided to take the Buick out - not so on Sunday, but still not so horrible that it was unbearable - anyway a great get-together. Wish you could have attended. We now have a new webmaster for our web site, and she is already beginning to make inroads. Recently joined, Robi Nelson has volunteered to take on the website for us, but be patient as the site is sorely behind times and will take some real effort to get it current. We also have a Club Photographer. Jim Wood has agreed to fill that need for the club. Jim plans to take photo s of member cars for posting on our website, so as spring approaches, expect to hear from Jim and have your car available for a photo-shoot. Jim will also be shooting pictures for use by the club historian and for articles in the Backfire. Speaking of photographs, those shown here were taken by Cliff Ellenwood, the only one with presence s of mind to bring a camera - thank you Cliff. For near-future fun, keep in mind that you can have a lot of fun just getting involved with fellow club members at our annual Astoria Swap Meet. There is always something to do or see, and you can join in helping with some small chore. Then there is the 50 s Cruise Reunion coming up on April 29th, that s a great show. So get out and enjoy your hobby. Meantime remember, If everything is coming your way - you re probably in the wrong lane!
LOWER COLUMBIA CLASSIC CAR CLUB 4 Dave Langlo 1939 2017 to help a fellow any way he could. My own experience with this side of Dave was him lending me a truck load of cribbing, mud sills and six large 100 ton screw jacks to raise and level the deck on the front of my house when first I bought it. The hardware he loaned me pales in value compared to the much needed advice and tips he added to the dept. - as I said always ready to help. Born in Virginia, Minnesota in 1939, moving to the Astoria area at the ripe old age of three, Dave Langlo was in spirit if not in fact, a true Oregonian. Dave attended school in Clatsop County through high school, following which he purchase a truck. He and the log truck eventually parted company and Dave spent the next seven or so years working in the woods at various logging jobs. Following his life in the woods, Dave joined the union and spent five years working in the construction field as a laborer and then started Dave Langlo Masonry, a business that he operated until he retired. Dave was a hard working, friendly kind of guy who was always willing Dave had a love of all things mechanical, was a builder and tinkerer and it showed in many of his builds. His Metropolitan station wagon is a perfect example of those abilities. Dave, a Charter Member of Lower Columbia Classic s, was not your typical Chevy/Ford/Chrysler kind of guy. Dave had a deep love affair with International trucks, American Motors Ramblers plus Studebaker automobiles and pickup trucks and even a Packard or two. More recently, he had begun to collect and restore MG sport cars. Dave married his wife Darlene on January 13, 1967 and would have celebrated their fiftieth Anniversary. Lower Columbia Classics will miss Dave the Studebaker Guy and his friendly grin at all of our events and gatherings..
LOWER COLUMBIA CLASSIC CAR CLUB 5 FROM THE BACK SEAT THE GAL S PAGE Club Members who need a little Sunshine The names below have been submitted by the Sunshine Committee. Those listed are our fellow members and need you. Langlo family Know someone not up to speed let Judy Jordan, Sunshine Committee Chair know. Judy s Phone number is: (503) 325-1807 Good Neighbors Do Good Things, I wanted to write this article to thank my neighbor Katie for always being there, not just for me but for everyone. What does she do? If she hasn t seen or heard from us she will call to make sure everything is okay. She gives dog biscuits on a daily basis to our dog, Maggie. She makes fantastic cinnamon rolls at Christmas. What else you say, that doesn t seem like much? If she sees a goat tangled in weeds and fences she stops her car along the highway and starts down a slight incline to set it free; a state trooper stopped and ended up rescuing the goat. Without Katie would this goat have survived? I think not. This is just one of many stories. She feeds birds, takes in neighbors pets that aren t being fed or cared for in the winter, and is always there if we need anything. She helps clean her church, support the local Catholic Daughters, puts together layouts for newborns, and is always supportive. Like a good neighbor, Katie is there. Thanks Katie Scarborough!!!!! Patty Getchell Judy Jordan was gracious to provide individuals who will make up the Gals Page articles for the entire year. Please provide a written article with or without pictures, to me (Ross Getchell). You must get it to me by the end of the first week in the month. Sending it by Email is the best, or send by mail.
