Coach Parking: There is no on-site parking. Local authority managed parking at Kingsmead Road is a short and pleasant riverside walk to the City centre. A drop-off point situated at the bus station, St George's Lane, in front of the Whitefriars Shopping Centre is a short walk from most city centre attractions. Public Transport: Canterbury is within easy reach of London, the Channel ports and Ashford International/ Ebbsfleet stations (Eurostar). By road, Canterbury is easily accessible from both the M2 and M20 motorways. Follow signs to the A2 or Canterbury. Once in the city; follow the tourist information signs for car parks or Cathedral. By rail, South Eastern run regular services direct from London Victoria to Canterbury East and a fast train service from London St Pancras to Canterbury West. The Cathedral is within easy walking distance from both stations. By coach, National Express run coach services throughout the day between London Victoria and Canterbury. Several tour operators operate a daily service with collections from all main London hotels. Disabled Facilities: These include toilets, ramps, wheelchairs, a touch and hearing system and a lift. Download our Access Statement or Facilities for Disabled leaflet from our website www.canterburycathedral.org or ask staff. Assistance and/or full information is available on arrival from the Welcome Centre. Duration of Visit: The Cathedral and its ground (precincts) are vast and there is plenty to see. Groups are advised to allow at least 1 ½ hrs for a visit. Guided tours last around one hour and fifteen minutes. General Facilities: A large range of guidebooks, publications, souvenirs and gifts to suit every pocket are available from our Shop. The main shop is situated at the exit from the Precincts and there are several sale points in the Cathedral. A mail order service and catalogue are available. www.cathedral- 3

enterprises.co.uk. Toilets are located within the Cathedral precincts a short walk from the Cathedral itself. Catering: The Cathedral Lodge, immediately next to the Cathedral, can cater for groups of 15 pax plus and provide anything from a simple sandwich spread to an Archbishop s three course lunch with all the trimmings. Please send any enquiries through to meet@canterbury-cathedral.org or telephone +44 (0) 1227 865350. From April to the end of September a kiosk providing teas, coffees and sandwiches is available within the Cathedral grounds (weather dependent). Pilgrimage Groups: Ever since the murder of Archbishop Thomas Becket in the Cathedral in 1170, Canterbury has attracted thousands of pilgrims. This tradition continues to this day, with a wide range of facilities from private Services to specially tailored guided tours. Staff in the Visits Office will be pleased to discuss requirements and make arrangements to make your pilgrimage a special occasion. Chaplains are on duty in the Cathedral at certain times. Otherwise a priest is always available and any Cathedral official will help to locate him/her. Accommodation: There is so much to see in Canterbury, you will need days to explore it all, so why not stay overnight in the grounds of the Cathedral itself? Canterbury Cathedral Lodge offers first-class, modern accommodation in the precincts with stunning Cathedral views, only 2 minutes from the city centre, shops, restaurants, bars and cafés. www.canterburycathedrallodge.org. For information on conference centre facilities, hospitality or accommodation, telephone +44 (0) 1227865350 or email stay@canterbury-cathedral.org. Specialist tours/ Extras: Behind the scenes a great deal goes on - some 300 people work on preparing Services, creating beautiful music, restoring the stained glass or conserving unique and rare books and documents, much as the monks did many centuries ago. Groups visiting the Cathedral can now experience these fascinating aspects of Cathedral life. Packages and tours can be tailor-made so that people can visit what interests them most: Cathedral's priceless archives and rare books library; beautiful church vestments; the studio where stained glass is restored and made or where the masons work in stone. These visits are very popular - numbers are limited and they must be booked well in advance. Joint tickets: Save money and combine a visit to the Cathedral with St Augustine s Abbey (English Heritage). Ask the Visits Office for special group rates for joint tickets. Schools Groups: Please ensure that groups and teenagers are adequately supervised at all times. Visits by primary and secondary schools are dealt with by the Schools Office. Please email schools@canterbury-cathedral.org or ring +44 (0)1227 865262 for further information. Restrictions: Photography for personal use is allowed in the Nave and Quire, but not Crypt. Dogs are permitted within the Precincts but not inside the building (except registered assistance dogs). Further information on group travel in Canterbury can be found on www.canterburygroups.co.uk or by ringing the Canterbury tourist information office on: +44 (0)1227 378 100. 4
