Māori Tourism Trade Day 2014 Operator Information and Booth Allocations Auckland Museum Booth 2 Auckland Museum is regarded as one of the finest museums in the southern hemisphere and is renowned for its unique collection of Māori and Pacific treasures. Housed in one of the nation s finest heritage buildings, the Museums three floors tell the story of New Zealand. From the great Polynesian voyages which first brought people to Aotearoa, to the diverse cultures and communities that make up Auckland today, Auckland Museum portrays the rich diversity of New Zealand. Waka Quest Booth 3 Polynesians including Māori, trace their origins to their canoe - it is a living representation of their ancestors. Our flagship vessel Haunui, is berthed at the Voyager NZ Maritime Museum. It is a Waka Hourua, a double hulled ocean voyaging canoe, able to carry 25 passengers. Waka on the Waitematā is a 2.5hr authentic Māori cultural experience and includes gathering in the Hawaiki Gallery at Voyager Museum, a traditional welcome and karakia on board the waka. You will then 'buddy-up' with a crew member to man the hoe - paddle, prepare some kai - food and learn how it is possible to navigate 20,000km across the oceans navigating by the stars. Te Puia Booth 4 Te Puia is an iconic cultural tourism attraction in Rotorua in the heart of New Zealand s North Island. Māori tradition thrives at Te Puia with daily cultural performances, indigenously inspired dining experiences and hourly guided tours through the historical Te Whakarewarewa Geothermal Valley. Te Puia is also home to the New Zealand Māori Arts and Crafts Institute (NZMACI) which was established in 1963 by an Act of Parliament to maintain and preserve traditional Māori art forms. At its core Te Puia s responsibility lies in protecting and perpetuating Māori traditions, arts and crafts. At any time between 20 to 30 students study onsite with visitors being able watch the students hard at work.

Rainbow Springs Booth 5 Whether you are walking through our many free flight aviaries, feeding the biggest wild trout you will ever see, watching the birds being fed or coming face to face with history in the eyes of a tuatara all of us here at Rainbow Springs are proud of the role we play in conserving many of the precious native species of New Zealand. Don't forget The Big Splash! Not only is it an adrenalin rush at the end as you accelerate towards the water creating a spectacular and exhilarating plume of water; it is a 9 minute journey through time where we explore the ecological evolution of New Zealand. State of the art animatronics and projection technology bring to life dinosaurs, Moa, the incredible Haast Eagle, the arrival of humans and so much more. Māori Tours Kaikoura Booth 6 Whether you re in Kaikoura for a day or a week on your own or with a group we invite you to stand in the heart of the day with us. Pa Harakeke Booth 8 Pa Harakeke Adventures is the place to be to start the supreme mountain bike ride of them all. The 2 day, 84km Timber Trail ride is the most talked about cycle ride, as it travels through pristine native bush, over amazing swing bridges, down the old train spiral and along mountain ridges with fantastic views of Lake Taupō and mountains to the North, South, East and West. Taking the shuttle to various points along the Timber Trail means you can also select the length of the ride you want to complete each day. Stay the night in our quality Chalets and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this special place. Hire a bike and bike at your leisure around Pureora Village, along part of the Timber Trail or perhaps the shorter 23km Maraeroa Cycleway. The Pa Harakeke visitor centre is also well equipped with Gift Shop, Cafe, Harakeke Gallery and ultra clean bathrooms. The Māori Pa and Cultural walkway is a cultural fiesta. Or select a native tree from our native nursery and plant it at Pa Harakeke whilst the ancient prayer is chanted. The staff are friendly and cool people and are there to help you enjoy your visit to this very special place.

Te Ana Whakairo Booth 9 Te Ana is a Māori owned and operated business focused on the ancient rock drawing sites and rich tribal history of the Aoraki (South Canterbury) region. Established by Ngai Tahu, the largest Māori tribe in the South Island, this innovative not-for-profit venture has conservation at its heart. Hosted by local Ngai Tahu guides, visitors explore the rock drawings through hosted experiences at the new Rock Art Centre in Timaru, and on guided tours to the region s most iconic Māori rock art sites. With 100% of our revenue used for the conservation of the sites, our visitors are directly contributing to the management and care of our precious tribal heritage. Whakarewarewa Thermal Village Booth 10 Our village residents have over the years adapted to the geothermal environment, living in harmony and utilising the natural resources to cook, bath, wash and preserve. Let us share with you our Māori culture, traditions and history which have been handed down from generation to generation. Our guides and staff are direct descendants of those who guided at the Pink and White Terraces. View the spectacular landscape of geothermal pools, erupting geysers and bubbling mud pools set in the Whakarewarewa Geothermal Valley. Your experience with us will not be complete without a Geothermal Hāngi Meal, tasting the foods that are cooked within the bubbling hot pools and steaming fumaroles you will see throughout our village. Take the opportunity to experience one of Rotorua s leading Māori Cultural Performance groups as they serenade you with song and dance. Nau Mai, Hāere Mai. Tāmaki Hikoi Booth 11 For hundreds of years, Māori of the local Ngāti Whātua tribe have passed down, from generation to generation, tribal history and traditions.
