What - WEBELOS Woods 2017 WEBELOS WOODS is a great opportunity for WEBELOS and ARROW OF LIGHT (AoL) scouts to be introduced to the troops of the Sooner District. It is a program that offers a variety of fun outdoor activities presented by local Boy Scout troops. Some troops may include specific Adventure Pin work in a "show-and-do format", while others will introduce the WEBELOS and AoLs to skills useful in the Boy Scout program. Cub Scouts will camp as a patrol within a troop of your choice. If your Den has not established contact with a troop or if you have just a maverick without a Den, we can assist you in getting connected with a hosting troop. Please contact a member of the organizing committee. Who - Every WEBELOs and ARROW OF LIGHT SCOUT and his Parents Every WEBELOS and AoL in the Sooner District is encouraged to attend WEBELOS Woods. WEBELOS Dens will be camping with a Boy Scout troop. This event helps WEBELOS work towards adventures needed to complete rank or have fun doing elective adventures. All scouts will also get to enjoy activities geared towards Boy Scouting. Parents are invited to spend the day and/or to camp with their sons. WEBELOS and AoL will not participate in the event on Friday. WEBELOS and AoL will arrive Saturday morning and return home Sunday morning. This is a great opportunity to visit with nearly every Troop in Sooner District. Parents are strongly encouraged to accompany their young soon to be Boy Scout during this event. This is considered a parent and child event. WEBELOS/AoLs will be under the supervision of their parents/guardian or designated adult. Packs are responsible to make sure they maintain two deep leadership. Each den is asked to partner with a troop prior to the event. The Troop will serve as their host. Where - John Nichols Scout Ranch The Sooner District WEBELOS Woods will be held November 3 rd thru 5 th, 2017 at John Nichols Scout Ranch. WEBELOS and AoL SCOUTS will join the Troops on Saturday, November 4 th. John Nichols Scout Ranch is located at SW 119th street and County Line Rd. Upon arrival proceed to the check-in area. Signs will be posted and volunteers will be available to direct you to your camping area. MEALS WEBELOS / AoLs will want to eat breakfast before they arrive Saturday morning unless other arrangements are made with their host Troop. Saturday Lunch will be provided as part of the event. Saturday dinner will be a potluck event with all Troops and Packs bringing something to share. Sunday breakfast should be an easy clean-up meal at your camp. To clarify, each Den is asked to prepare something for the Saturday Evening Potluck Dinner at their campsite or with their host troop. If needed, ask for assistance sourcing food, ice, and cook stove (propane, firewood, or charcoal) prior to the event. WEBELOS and AoL units are encouraged to join up with their assigned Scout Troop for camping and meal preparation. No ground fires are allowed. Any fire must be in a container and the grass and ground protected from the heat. Prepare accordingly. Strict observation of fire safety is a must. WEBELOS/AoL Dens should work with their hosting troop regarding either grub money or rations. BOY SCOUT OATH AND LAW - The Boy Scout Oath and Law will be the law of the camp. All Scouts and adults are expected to conduct themselves accordingly. This is a Class A event. All aspects of the BSA Guide to Safe Scouting apply.
EQUIPMENT - Many troops will be able to tent the boys. Parents should plan on bringing their own tents. A First Aid kit location will be provided by the troop and readily available in each campsite. Each attendee will be responsible for packing and bringing his own personal gear including uniform, cup, blanket/sleeping bag, ground cloth, poncho, flashlight, eating utensils, toiletries, and WEBELOS Handbook. It is several miles to the nearest store. Water will be available at a central location. Troops will provide water at each campsite. Remember that November weather in Oklahoma can be quite unpredictable so ensure that your Unit is properly prepared for warm, cool, and wet weather. A poncho will come in handy in case of rain. If a troop can t assist you contact a member of the event organizing committee for assistance. MEDICAL FORMS - Each participant will need a current medical form part A & B and submit it at check in. The physical exam section is not required for this event. Forms are available at the Last Frontier Council website (www.lastfrontiercouncil.org). Forms will be turned in at check-in and returned at checkout. INSECTS AND POISONOUS PLANTS As always, be prepared to defend yourselves against mosquitoes, chiggers, and ticks. You should also come prepared to AVOID and if necessary - treat poison ivy. VEHICLES You will be allowed to bring vehicles down to camp for unloading and loading only. VEHICLES MUST BE RETURNED TO THE PARKING LOT AFTER UNLOADING. Troop Trailers can be parked in the campsite but all vehicles must be returned to the designated parking lot.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER John Nichols Scout Ranch is equipped with adequate shelters in the event of hazardous weather. A complete emergency plan and instructions will be available at check-in. WHEN The preliminary Pack schedule will be as follows. More details and a final schedule will be provided at the event: (Eat Breakfast on your own prior to arrival) The preliminary Troop schedule will be provided via email. You have until 9:15 to prepare for flag. Saturday 9:30 AM Opening Flag Ceremony and Announcements Saturday 10:00 AM 12:00 AM Troops will host WEBELOS and AoL adventure pins. First responder and other adventures will be offered. We will have a schedule for you when you arrive. You will sign up and attend that day. COMMUNICATION We will provide updated schedules at check in. We will have a private WEBELOS Woods Facebook group that will be regularly updated. A current and updated schedule will be maintained on this page. Your group leader will be invited to access the group as they register. REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN ON TENTAROO!!! SIGN UP TODAY!!! WEBELOS Packing List Tent (The hosting troop may be able to provide a tent for the WEBELOS. Please talk to them about this arrangement. Adult leaders and parents will bring their own tents although, again, some may be available from the hosting troop.) Remember BSA Rules prohibit youth sleeping in tent with an adult other than their parent or guardian. REGISTRATION Registration is available online: http://www.scoutingrocks.tv/sww Registration cost for WEBELOS and Arrow of Light Scouts is $15.00 per person. This includes an event patch and lunch plus program supplies. There is a $5 registration fee for Pack parents, Troop members and Troop leaders to cover the cost of lunch. At registration, we will need to know who wants to complete and be recognized for complete First Responder and other adventure pins. All requirements will be covered. This will be a great opportunity for your WEBELOS to earn required adventure pins. WEBELOS Dens and Boy Scout Troops are encouraged to register as a group. You will receive an email with a registration confirmation once your registration fee has been received. Please print this registration confirmation email and bring it with your group on Saturday morning for camp check-in.
