AFRIKAANS TOUR See the 7 CHURCHES of Revelation 3-13 AUGUST 2018 JOY! Tours and Travel met Ds Elza Meyer 11 DAY LUXURY TOUR R32 999pp/s at R14.80 to 1 Euro incl flights, 4/5 star hotels, transport, fulltime guide, 3 meals a day, entry fees into all main sites & tipping This Christian pilgrimage will give you opportunity to explore the locations of the seven churches of Revelation and the journeys of the Apostle Paul. The modern country of Turkey is home to all seven of the churches mentioned in the opening chapters of Revelation. While the rest of the New Testament is made of narratives and instructional letters, Revelation is an apocalyptic work. This tour will expose you the beautiful country of Turkey and open up the Scriptures as we journey. DAY 1-03 Aug Friday: JOHANNESBURG - ISTANBUL We will meet at the Turkish airline check-in counter at the International Departure Hall of OR Tambo at 15h20pm for group checkin. Departure time is at 18:20pm. Dinner and breakfast served on board. DAY 2-04 Aug Saturday: ISTANBUL - FLIGHT TO CAPPADOCIA 07:50am Arrival in Istanbul and catch domestic flight to Cappadocia. After meeting our guide, and taking a scenic drive to Cappadocia, we will proceed to lunch at a local restaurant. Afternoon visit the Uchisar rock formation to have a panoramic view of the region where we will stop at Pigeon Valley to enjoy a panoramic view of this region s unique rock formations, popularly known as fairy chimneys. Formed over many centuries by wind and water erosion on soft volcanic rock, these rock formations rise high from the valley floor like chimneys. Here we will have a preach and communion service. Then proceed to our hotel for dinner. DAY 3-05 Aug Sunday: CAPPADOCIA Breakfast at the hotel. This morning after devotions, our tour of Cappadocia includes Göreme Valley Outdoor Museum to view the frescoes of the famous churches known by the names Apple, Barbara, Sandal and Snake churches, the Pasabagi Monks Valley, Kaymakli underground city and Ürgüp fairy chimneys. Early Christians settled here to escape persecution in Europe. Afterwards, we are off to explore the Monastic Center of Goreme. This open-air museum is dotted with quaint carved-from-rock churches and chapels embellished P1

with colorful frescoes. The church contains frescoes of the twelve apostles, the saints and scenes from the life of Jesus (963-969 and 11th century respectively). The Old Church is decorated with pale hues of red and green painted in strips to represent scenes from the New Testament and depictions of some saints. Panels of rich indigo painted with pigments from the lapis lazuli stone dominate the New Church : scenes from the New Testament, miracles of Christ and the first deacons of the Early Church. After a teaching, we head to lunch. Next we proceed to the Avanos village pottery center located along the Kizilirmak (Red River, Turkey s longest river). Afternoon spent at the various handicraft workshops of the region selling carpets and rugs, ceramics, onyx, jewelry and souvenirs. After the shopping we proceed back to our hotel in Cappadocia. DAY 4-06 Aug Monday: HOT AIR BALLOON RIDE CAPPADOCIA KONYA - PAMUKKALE This morning we willl get up very early to do a hot air balloon ride over the fascinating chimney tops of the Goreme Valley. This bucket-list experience is an optional extra on the tour; for those who are afraid of heights, we will collect you after breakfast and depart for Konya. Konya is a major city in south-western edge of the Central Anatolian Plateau and is the seventh-most-populous city in Turkey with a population of over 2.1 million. Konya is an economically and industrially developed city and the capital of Konya. We will stop mid-way in our journey for lunch at a local restaurant and then continue to Pamukkale. Dinner and overnight at our resort hotel in Pamukkale. DAY 5-07 Aug Tuesday: PAMUKKALE BERGAMA KUSADASI Breakfast at the hotel. In Pamukkale, visit the thermal springs and the ancient city of Hierapolis. After Pamukkale (Cotton Castle) visit the remains of the ancient church of Laodicea. This city was one of the Seven Churches that the Apostle John chastised the inhabitants for being lukewarm (Rev. 3:14-22). Next we visit the site of the Sardis. Though Sardis was a strong and wealthy city with a reputation for being alive, God announced that it was actually dead (Rev. 3:1-6). Here, we will explore the white marble royal way, the massive Temple of Artemis, the large gymnasium, and the famous synagogue. Annual archaeological expeditions sponsored by Harvard and Cornell Universities have unearthed over eighty Greek and seven Hebrew inscriptions as well as numerous mosaic floors revealing this synagogue as one of the most significant synagogues of antiquity. Lunch at a local restaurant. Continue to Bergama. Use a cable-car ride and visit the Acropolis of Pergamon with its breathtaking amphitheater. We will walk around and explore the acropolis of Pergamon, also called the throne of Satan. Continue to the Aegean port town of Kusadasi. Dinner and overnight at our deluxe hotel in Kusadasi. DAY 6-08 Aug Wednesday: KUSADASI EPHESUS BODRUM This morning after breakfast, we visit the ancient city of Ephesus. Located in the modern town of Selcuk, ancient Ephesus is one of the most well-preserved archaeological sites in Turkey. Originally an ancient Greek Ionic city built in the 10th century B.C., Ephesus grew to become the largest metropolis and capital of the P2

Roman province of Asia Minor. This political influence and the city s large Jewish community attracted the attention of the apostles, including Paul. Here, he carried out his mission for two years and was Bishop of the Ephesian Church. Next we proceed to the House of Mary, a pilgrimage site where Mary is believed to have spent her last days, will be visited. Lunch at a local restaurant. Drive to Bodrum where we will visit the Bodrum Castle. Dinner and overnight at our Mediterranean seaside hotel in Bodrum. DAY 7-09 Aug Thursday: BODRUM After devotions in the morning and breakfast at the hotel, you will have the day at leisure. Explore this quaint seaside town, take in the beautiful harbour or go shopping for some souvenirs. Perhaps take a dip in the acquamarine waters of the Med. Lunch is provided at the hotel. After a leisurely walk into town, why not take a nap and then join us again for dinner and a group meeting where we will worship together and receive some End Time teaching. DAY 8-10 Aug Friday: BODRUM - fly to ISTANBUL Breakfast at the hotel. 10:00am Transfer to Bodrum Airport for the domestic flight for Istanbul at 12:45 (cutting out long driving times!). At 14:05 we will transfer to the hotel and have the afternoon at leisure to explore this vibrant capital city. Dinner and overnight at our luxury hotel by Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. DAY 9-11 Aug Saturday: ISTANBUL Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for fullday city tour with a visit to the main historical centre of Istanbul, Sultanahmet Square with its Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman monuments. Our walking tour starts with the Roman Hippodrome and the monuments lined up along the original hippodrome built by Emperor Septimus Severus in 203 AD. We continue to the place of the most famous site in Istanbul, the Blue Mosque. Christians may wish to stay outside the mosque (and pray quietly for the locals) or you may go into the mosque and take in the exquisite architecture. One of the highlights of the tour is the Hagia Sophia. Church of the Holy Wisdom of God from the 6th century built by Justinian between 532-537AD. Next we will continue with the Topkapi Palace. Until finally being abandoned to more modern palaces in the middle of the 19th century the palace served as the residence of the Ottoman Sultans as well as the center of administration for 4 centuries. On entering through the Imperial Gate the first monument to be seen is the majestic fountain of Sultan Ahmet III followed by the first courtyard housing the Church of St Eirene. Through the Gate of Salutation we enter the grounds of the Palace and view the various exhibitions including the imperial kitchens with its rich collection of Japanese and Chinese Ming porcelain. The Treasury, housing such exquisite masterpieces as the Topkapi dagger and the Spoonmaker s diamond will be visited. We will then proceed to lunch at a local restaurant. Continue with the Grand Covered Bazaar (Kapalicarsi), P3

a maze of 58 alleys and more than 4.000 shops. Dating from the early days of Ottoman rule in Istanbul, the bazaar houses shops selling local craftsmanship, jewelry, pottery, spices, traditional costumes, belly dancer outfits, leather, carpets and evil eye objects among other souvenir articles. At the end of the tour, transfer to the hotel for dinner. Those who wish to explore the city at night will be able to take a taxi or walk to a nearby shopping district where there is lively music and night markets. DAY 10-12 Aug Sunday: ISTANBUL DEPARTURE This morning is at leisure. After a devotional teaching, we check out from the hotel at 11:30 and proceed on our halfday guided city tour. Our visits today start with the 19th century Dolmabahce Palace and visit of the men s section with its Hereke carpet covered ceremonial halls. Literally meaning the palace of the filled garden, the Dolmabahce Palace was built on a bay on the Bosphorus on reclaimed land during the reign of Sultan Abdulmecit in 1853 by Armenian architects Balyan family. The Selamlik (men s section) and the Muayede Halls (ceremonial halls) will be visited. The contrast between classical Ottoman architecture and the western approach adapted in the 19th century will be visible during our tour. A private cruise on the Bosphorus will introduce us to the rich cultural heritage of the palaces, fortresses, wooden Ottoman villas and lively little fishing villages and famous nightspots of the city. Our boat will cruise under the two suspension bridges built to cross between the two sides of the city, in other words between two continents. Our tour today ends with the discovery of the Egyptian Spice Market (Misir Carsisi). This is the in place for spices, dried fruits, fruit teas, nuts, variety of Turkish delight (lokum) and souvenirs in one of the most exotic ambiences of the city. 19:00 Dinner at Samatya Develi Kebab restaurant on the way to the airport. 21:30 Transfer to Istanbul Ataturk airport for the flight home at midnight.
