May, 2012 LIONS CLUBS INTERNATIONAL MD19 DISTRICT A NEWSLETTER SHOOT FOR THE STARS Dear Fellow Lions, Leos and Lionesses, We have been celebrating one of the most successful years in our District to date. We have had an exceptional high visitation from other seated District Governors to our District Conference. This has been a year of excellent communication within our neighbouring districts. My meeting with the Zone Chairpersons in Wenatchee last June brought such successful results within our District; this meeting has been incorporated in this year s agenda. I would like to thank all that have contributed to our Spring Conference book this year. It has created a lot of attention from other districts. We will be reviewing new ideas to improve future conference programs books in June. INSIDE THIS ISSUE: DG message continued 2 Notice from PZC Eric Keller 2 Photos of Van. Galaxy Lions 2 Photos 3 Youth Exchange information 4 Membership Memo 5 Important information from LCI 6-7 Upcoming Lions Events 8 Our District is pleased to welcome the Columbia College Omega Leo Club. This club was chartered on May 18 th at the Creekside Community Centre. I had the pleasure to induct the 21 charter members and Zone Chairperson Annie Lau performed the installation ceremony. Leo Liaison Glenn Cho gave a message of the history of the youth movement in our District. This is truly an international event as we have members from Africa, Mexico, India, China, Russia and Middle Eastern countries. This demonstrates there are no cultural boundaries in Lions. It exemplifies the Lions We Serve motto. I would like to give a special thanks to Lion Mike Slaney for his diligence and foresight to charter this club in our District which is sponsored by the Vancouver South Lions Club. Lions Clubs International is processing our latest Vancouver Gateway Leo Club s charter application. This club is sponsored by the Vancouver Evergreen Lions club and is the third Leo Club to our District this year. We look forward to invite you all to their upcoming charter event. The exceptional high quality of Zone Chairpersons and Cabinet Members has helped us achieve our goals for the year within the first six months. I will be working with clubs that have expressed intention to grow their membership and excel in service activities for the remaining months of the year. To be continued on page 2

MAY 2012 PAGE 2 I am proud to report that 100% of all Multiple District and Lions Clubs International dues have been paid up to date. We are showing a net gain of 75 members. This puts us as the top performing district this year. I would like to thank you all for your invaluable assistance and cooperation. I am very impressed with the growth and development of our District this year. This has truly raised the bar and set the tone for our future within our Multiple District and Lions Clubs International. I have the opportunity to attend other conferences in four individual districts. I recommend that everyone make an effort to support our neighbouring Lions as I come away with a wealth of information and invaluable insight to the true Lions spirit by attending these conferences. During the next few months I look forward to see you all at your installation events especially looking forward to inducting the new members that are joining our Lions family. Ladies & Gentlemen: O.K., O.K. So after many years with evermore expensive and unco-operative Shaw we have switched over to telus.net! This came with significant free extras and our monthly rate dropped by about $40! What s not to like.... So my name (e-mail) stayed the same but now :..... @telus.net instead of.. shaw.ca. From today onward we may be reached at : erkeller@telus.net. Yours in Service & Fellowship... PZC Eric R.. Vancouver Galaxy Installation and Fundraising Dinner at Viva Seafood Restaurant, Richmond.
