ISFRI2018 10-12 May 2018 Bayview Eden Melbourne Sponsorship & Exhibition

Welcome ISFRI 2018, the combined 7th annual meeting of the International Society for Forensic Radiology and Imaging and 13th annual meeting of the International Association of Forensic Radiographers, is to be held in Melbourne from May 10th 12th 2018. ISFRI 2018 will be the first combined meeting of our societies to be held outside Europe. The Asia-Pacific region, of which Australia is a prominent member, contains many countries that are increasingly exploring the application of modern imaging techniques in medico-legal death investigation. The conference will be hosted by the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine (VIFM) and Monash University. VIFM is Australia s most comprehensive forensic medical centre. It provides independent forensic medical and scientific expertise to the state justice system, tissue for transplantation and undertakes teaching and research in the areas of medico-legal death investigation and clinical forensic medicine. The VIFM has extensive experience in the use of post-mortem crosssectional imaging over many years, having installed one of the first mortuary-based CT scanners in the world. PMCT is now fully integrated into the work of medico-legal death investigation in our state and is specifically referenced in our coronial legislation. The theme of integration will be central to the meeting. Keynote speakers include Dr. Michael Pollanen, chief pathologist of Ontario Canada, Dr Owen Arthurs, Paediatric Forensic Radiologist from Great Ormond St Hospital in London UK, Professor Garry Edmond, Professor of Law at UNSW and Jeroen Kroll, chief radiographer at the Forensic Radiology Unit of UMC+, Maastricht Netherlands. Their plenary lectures will highlight the pathological, legal, investigational and societal integration of forensic imaging. Regional utilization of these imaging techniques in the Asia-Pacific will also be highlighted in presentations by Dr Sookyoung Lee, Forensic Pathologist from Seoul Korea and A/ Professor Hideki Hyodoh Forensic Radiologist from Sapporo Japan. The venue for all lectures will be the Bayview Eden Hotel, close to the centre of Melbourne. It is situated just off the main boulevard leading into the city centre and is close to many tourist attractions and the Albert Park Lake, site of Melbourne s annual F1 Grand Prix. We invite you to participate in this major event as a sponsor and/or exhibitor. We anticipate approximately 200 delegates from Australia, New Zealand, the Asia-Pacific as well as Europe and North America. This will be an opportunity to showcase your company s products and services to decision makers in the field of forensic imaging. This meeting will help you to strengthen existing relationships and establish new partnerships, share ideas and experiences, and of course make contact with professionals in this exciting new area.

Invitation to Sponsor ISFRI (International Society of Forensic Radiology and Imaging) was established on November 27th 2011, at 08:52, when Professor Michael Thali, Forensic pathologist, Professor and Chair of the Institute of Forensic Medicine at the University of Zurich (Switzerland) wrote an e-mail with the following message: We are pleased to announce the formation of the International Society of Forensic Radiology and Imaging as well as the release of the Journal of Forensic Radiology and Imaging. With that e-mail the birth of ISFRI as a society was made public. The actual birth had taken place on November 14th 2011, in Zurich, with Michael Thali and Mark Viner (forensic radiographer) as the founding leaders. With the globally increasing importance of Forensic Radiology, Michael and Mark were convinced that the time was right to start this new society. The first annual Congress of the ISFRI took place from May 12-14, 2012 in Zurich, Switzerland. Attendees of this meeting were the first members of ISFRI and gained the status of Founding Members of the ISFRI. ISFRI aims to strengthen and develop the field of forensic radiology and imaging worldwide by promoting best practice and developing international quality standards and guidelines in this field of imaging. ISFRI is a not for profit organization and has no specific commercial interests. The set objectives of ISFRI are: To strengthen and develop the field of forensic radiology and imaging To promote best practice in forensic radiology and imaging through communication and cooperation To promote education and specialization in the field of forensic radiology and imaging To encourage and develop research programs in forensic radiology and imaging To establish quality standards and guidelines for forensic radiology and imaging To establish processes for the regulation and certification of forensic radiology and associated imaging sciences To provide a journal for the members of the society ISFRI currently has approximately 200 members from around the world with the last ISFRI Congress in Odense, Denmark attracting over 150 registrants. ISFRI members include radiologists, pathologists, radiographers, anthropologists, odontologists and imaging scientists. All are involved in the acquisition, interpretation and display of imaging modalities in medico-legal death investigation. These modalities include CT, MRI, digital radiography and Ultrasound as well as surface scanning and photogrammetry. The International Association of Forensic Radiographers (IAFR) has a similar membership number to ISFRI and has always been open to anyone with a professional interest in medical imaging. IAFR has always had representation on the ISFRI Board but the 2015 Annual Congress marked a new highlight, as this was the first joint meeting of ISFRI and IAFR. That partnership has continued through to the 2018 Congress that is to be known as ISFRI 2018.
