Barrie Park 127 Garfield St., Oak Park, IL Visit the mosaic murals on the back of the Barrie sled hill. What do they show? Describe or draw your favorite one here. Imagine you are the artist who is asked to create a new mosaic for the empty spot on the east side. What would you do? Draw your design below. Challenge yourself to climb up the hill and down the steps three times. Can you do more? Did you know? The murals were created by students in the Oak Park Area Arts Council Off the Wall Program. This summer apprenticeship employs teens to work with professional artists to create public art in our community. To learn more visit: oakparkareaartscouncil.org Barrie park 4

Euclid Square Park 705 W. Fillmore, Oak Park, IL Spend some time visiting the brand new playground in this park. Find all of the mounds built into the playground surface. Question: How many mounds did you find? Invent a new game that you can play using the mounds. Write out the rules or draw a picture of your game below: Four laps around the park equals one mile. Time yourself doing one lap or one mile. Come back another time and try to go faster! Did you know? When Euclid Square Park was renovated in 2017 the old playground was donated to Kids Around the World. This organization refurbishes and reinstalls used playgrounds all across the globe to benefit kids in countries affected by war, poverty, disease or natural disaster. euclid square park 5

Carroll Park 1125 S. Kenilworth, Oak Park, IL Ahoy mateys! Find the compass painted on the sidewalk at the park. Use the cardinal directions (north, south, east, west) to answer these questions: The baseball diamond is of the park. The school is located of the park. The pirate ship is of the compass. The sandbox is of the compass. Use the letters in the shaded boxes to spell out a word: Find the treasure chest X marks the spot. Starting at the compass, walk 25 big paces west and 5 paces south to find the treasure chest. Use the word above as the combination to unlock the lock and find the treasure! Take a picture of you with your prize and share it using #pdoppassport on social media. If you travel six blocks east and one block north, where will you be? Find a way to get to there, without driving, to continue your adventure! carroll park 6

Rehm Park 515 Garfield, Oak Park, IL Rehm Park is full of activities and fun for all ages. Choose your own adventure from the choices below: Build a sandcastle in the playground sandbox. Slide down all of the slides on the playgrounds. How many did you find? Bring a ball and try playing Gaga Ball in the pit on the east side of the park. Or, play sand volleyball on the courts. Take a picture or video of your own adventure at Rehm Park and share it using #pdoppassport on social media, or draw a picture of it below. When you are active, especially in hot weather, it s important to stay hydrated. Aim to drink six glasses of water a day. Did you know? The Rehm trains are a long-standing tradition in Oak Park, chugging along the tracks since 1960. These hand-powered trains are free and open Tuesday Sunday. For train schedule visit www.pdop.org/trains. All aboard! rehm park 7

Field Park 935 Woodbine, Oak Park, IL Summer days can be long and hot, so head over to Field Park and cool off in the splash pad. You can t see it, but underground there are three cisterns that collect the splash pad water and re-use it to irrigate the nearby fields. Find the sign that explains the cistern. How many gallons of water do the cisterns save? The Park District uses cisterns to conserve water. What can you do at home to conserve water? Write or draw your ideas below: The corner of Kenilworth and Division serves as a water stop for the Frank Lloyd Wright races. Try part of the 10K course now! Start at Division and go north on Kenilworth to Le Moyne, then head back down Grove to the finish line at Division. Did you know? The Frank Lloyd Wright Races, feature a 5K, 10K and a youth mile. New this year Halloween costumes are encouraged for kids who run the youth mile. Lace up your sneakers and have some fun running the streets of Oak Park on October 21. Andersen Park 824 N. Hayes, Oak Park, IL This park is named after a famous author, who is it? There are three signs that talk about his fairy tales. Draw a picture, act out a scene, or sing a song from your favorite story. Take a video of your performance and share it using #pdoppassport on social media. Do your favorite yoga pose and hold it for 10 seconds. Don t forget to breathe! Did you know? The Andersen Center was designed by local architect John S. Van Bergen who was an apprentice to Frank Lloyd Wright and worked with him in his Oak Park studio. andersen park 9

Fox Park 624 S. Oak Park Ave., Oak Park, IL Fox Park is home to one of the Park District s many baseball and softball diamonds. Head over to home base and pretend to hit a home run or bring a ball and bat and hit a real homer! Take your best victory lap around the bases. Extra points for sound effects. Take a picture or video of your celebration at home plate and share it using #pdoppassport on social media. Or, draw it here: Count the number of steps, or time yourself, going from home plate to first base. How many steps, or how many seconds, does it take to cover all the bases? After your victory lap be sure to stretch and recover. Try doing three different stretches, holding each one for 10 seconds. Math Boost A major league baseball infield measures 90 ft. from home plate to first base. The Fox Park little league infield measures 60 ft. from home plate to first base. Using your steps or time from above, how long would it take you to finish a home run at a major league field? Fox park 11

Cheney Mansion 220 N. Euclid, Oak Park, IL Explore the beautiful grounds surrounding Cheney Mansion and find the garden. Look at the fruits, vegetables, herbs and flowers that are grown there. Draw a picture of your favorite discovery: Gardens change with the season because plants bloom and ripen at different times. Produce is the most nutritious when it s eaten as soon as it s ripe. What is ready to eat now? Come back to the garden in a few weeks to see it change. The next time you are in the grocery store, find a fruit or vegetable that you have never tasted before and give it a try. Did you know? The All Ages/All Abilities Garden at Cheney Mansion allows young adults with disabilities, senior citizens and volunteers to work together to grow crops to donate to the Oak Park River Forest Food Pantry. Last year over 525 pounds of fresh produce were donated! For more info: www.sugarbeetschoolhouse.org cheney mansion 12

Stevenson Park 49 Lake St., Oak Park, IL Parks aren t just about playgrounds, head over to Stevenson Park and get creative. Bring a ball, Frisbee or picnic blanket and enjoy the wide open space. Think of the park as your own backyard! Travel around the whole park complex and write down all of the activities that you can do there: What four-wheeled activity can you do at Stevenson Park that you CAN T do in our other parks? On a clear day, lay in the grass and look up at the clouds or try some quiet meditation under a tree to take a healthy mental break. Did you know? Stevenson Park was acquired by the Village of Oak Park in 1916 and named after author Robert Louis Stevenson. The Park District entered into a 99-year lease agreement with the village in 2006, rather than buying the property outright, because the park sits on top of two underground reservoirs managed by the village. 13 stevenson park
