Allegheny Highlands - Boy Scouts of America FALL CAMPOREE Civil War Encampment & Re-Enactment The Sesquicentennial Remembrance October 10 th, 11 th and 12th, 2014, Angelica, NY Come join your host, Allegheny Highlands Council, for another fun-filled weekend of seeing, learning and doing on the Allegany County Fairgrounds in Angelica, NY on October 10 th -12 th, 2014. Here is a link to the Venture Crew s web page that organizes the Re-enactment http://www.136thny.com The re-enactment schedule along with all the information about the Venture Crew is on this site. Our 11 th annual American Civil War Camporee promises to be the best ever! This year the volunteer re-enactors will share their knowledge of the era, and do battle re-enactments in the fields of the campgrounds. Other presenters will contribute as well. Troops are encouraged to carry the camporee theme into their campsites, and there will be an award for the Troop with the best Civil War theme in their unit. The Allegany County Fairgrounds offers an ideal site for the camporee. Troops will be encamped in the infield of the fairgrounds, where fires will be permitted on a raised surface only. Running water and restroom facilities are available. This year, we will have a Special Saturday Evening Cracker Barrel and Show. In case of inclement weather, there will be sufficient indoor space for safety. The trading post will be stocked with all kinds of goodies. Check-in begins at 5:00pm on Friday, October 10 th, Troops will choose or be assigned to a site on arrival, a Hot Dog Special (7p.m.) as well as a variety of other choices will be available at the Trading Post for arriving troops who do not wish to prepare an evening meal, or for extra-hungry scouts. A movie will be shown Friday evening. There will be an evening Cracker Barrel on Friday for leaders and Senior Patrol Leaders, and information on program times and stations will be distributed then. There is also a Saturday night Cracker Barrel for all. Saturday will begin with breakfast prepared by Troops in site, followed by an opening ceremony and enlistment of scouts into either the Union or Confederate forces. (Advance registration units may indicate their preference for which side.). This year again the boys will be able to chose one of two programs: 1. Civil War Stations or 2. Two Merits badges (TBA). Scouts will be mustered into their units as young men were during the Civil War, and tour the stations as a unit. Demonstrations and interpretations of military and civilian life during the period will be presented by period re-enactors. This year the units will be able to pre-pare lunch at their camp sites. The program will continue after lunch with a skirmish on the hill sides of the campgrounds and a Boy Scout battle re-enactment in the afternoon. Supper on Saturday will be on your own this year. Each Troop is asked to prepare a LARGE ( enough for your whole unit) Dessert to pass, and share at the Saturday Night 9pm Cracker Barrel. We will supply the drinks!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Evening Program on Saturday will include Dinner from 5:00pm - 6:30PM, and a Special Celebration - Jack Hirsh Comedy Hypnosis Show at 8:00PM. 1
