GOBA NEWS Issue 3-30 3 GOBA Notes: Most people plan to arrive at the starting point on Saturday, June 16. The fairgrounds in Delaware will open at 12:00 noon. You will be directed to park your car either in the parking area designated as Week Long parking or a different area for Car Camper. Cars are not permitted to drive up to check-in or into the tent camping areas unless pre-arranged. Downtown Delaware has many activities planned for GOBA so come early to enjoy! If you come on Sunday morning, be sure to arrive no later than 7:30 am to allow plenty of time to do the following: o Read and Sign your Safety Pledge o Pick up your Rider Packet o Mark and attach your luggage tag to your luggage o Load your luggage on luggage truck before they leave at 8:45 am Severe weather plans for each campground will be posted in camp. Be prepared to go to the closest shelter. GOBA staff and town officials will guide you. Arrows: The GOBA route is marked with the letter A (or some call it an upside down V ) o White on Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday o Yellow on Tuesday, Friday o Orange on Monday and Thursday optional loop days Need Help on the Route: If you need help on the route, stay put so the support crew can find you! Rider numbers: Know your rider number and the numbers of everyone in your group. Take a photo of the numbers on your phone. GOBA wristband: Keep these on at all time for security reasons. Most towns are offering discounts to riders with wristbands. Indoor camping is now CLOSED at all locations. All slots have been pre-reserved. The GOBA temporary campground permit prohibits fires and cooking in camp. No candles, grills, Sterno or fireworks. NO GUNS permitted in GOBA camp even if you have a concealed carry permit! Food options: Bring money for food because it is not covered in your registration fee. Not all dietary needs can be met, so we recommend that you visit local grocery stores and carry what you need. Some stops along the route will have only bottled water for purchase. Luggage suggestions: o Pack light because we all look the same after one day of riding. o Put your Rider number and phone number on your luggage tags. o Pack all gear in plastic bags to protect from rain because your bags could be exposed for several hours to the elements. o Take a photo of your luggage because there are lots of bags that look alike. o Remember when packing, you will carry your bags to and from the luggage truck each day so make sure you can lift your bag into the truck. Carry a minimum of 2 water bottles per person on each bicycle and top them off at every opportunity. If you ride the Century (100 mile) ride on Thursday, pick up your Century Patch at GOBA Info Booth! GOBA t-shirts/jerseys: If you did not preorder your t-shirt or jersey don t worry! Stop by the GOBA Merchandise vendor s tent and pick one up (most sizes are still available). If you DID pre-order and have not received your purchase in the mail, stop by the GOBA Merchandise vendor for pickup. Local Info Booth: Volunteers will be available to answer questions on the latest town s activities. Stop by the GOBA Info Booth to check the Info Board for information regarding the activities for the next day. Luggage shuttling: Some campgrounds will offer luggage shuttling by local youth groups armed with wheelbarrows etc. Please express your gratitude for their hard work by making a donation to their group. Periodic monitoring of week-long parking in Delaware: The local Police and Sheriff departments will make daily rounds of the fairgrounds. GOBA security staff, Darlene and Gary Crabbs, will be on site all week (see hours in next bullet) to monitor cars and check GOBA riders out. Leaving GOBA early: Please check out with Mary Larson in the GOBA Info Booth. Mary will notify the Crabbs (Delaware week-long parking security) that you are coming. They will be available to check you out daily from 10 am to 5 pm. Before and after hours must be arranged through Mary Larson. Reminder: Bring a cable and lock for your bike. While bike loss on GOBA has been rare in the previous years, it is always a good practice to lock your bike even in camp! Feedback: We like hearing your comments and recommendations about your experience on GOBA. Please go to www.goba.com, click Feedback on left side of the home page. The survey will be open starting Sunday, June 24 through July 31. GOBA Medical Clinic GOBA is fortunate to have a group of doctors and other health professionals who volunteer their time and services to organize a free medical clinic for GOBA participants. They are volunteers and they ride as well. The clinic is held daily from 7-7:30 am and from 4-6 pm except there will be no clinic on the first Saturday, on Sunday AM or on the last Saturday PM. Look for the Medical RV. The clinic is designed to treat medical problems and injuries that have occurred ONLY on GOBA. It is intended for basic medical care more serious problems will be treated at a local hospital. You are responsible for medical treatment at a hospital so don t forget to bring your insurance card and ID. If you have a medical problem prior to leaving for GOBA, we recommend that you first see your own physician at home. Reminder: The medical staff are volunteers so remember to tell them how much they are appreciated!

Buckeye Lake was built in 1826 as a feeder lake for the Ohio Erie canal system. Recreation was a popular activity at the lake in the nineteenth century, and many people visited the Buckeye Lake Amusement Park that operated in the 1940s and 1950s. In 1949 Buckeye Lake State Park was created and became the first State Park in Ohio.
