December, 2016. This is the second of a series of E Bulletins probably being sent out monthly - being sent to individuals and Clubs with information on the 2017 & 61 st South Coast Rowing Championships Regatta and the 12 th Under 16 Regatta which will take place on Saturday, 2 nd September, 2017 and is being hosted by the Hants & Dorset Amateur Rowing Association at ETON DORNEY, near Windsor, the venue for the 2012 Olympic Regatta and South Coast Rowing Championships in 2007 and 2011. The first bulletin focussed on why we are returning to Eton Dorney, a description of the venue and the facilities available and its location. If you missed this bulletin you can down load a copy from the home page of the 2017 SCC Web Site - go to http://www.hdara.co.uk/scc This bulletin focuses on the reason for the early date and how the event is being organised - including key contacts. The South Coast Rowing Championships is administered by the South Coast Rowing Council which is made up of delegates from the three South Coast Rowing Associations - the Coast ARA (CARA) the West of England ARA (WEARA) and the Hants & Dorset ARA (H&D ARA) - and an elected Secretary/Treasurer - currently Colin Eales - from Southsea
Rowing Club and the Hants & Dorset ARA. One of the Association delegates is elected as Chairman of the Council - this is currently - Jane Perry from WEARA. The other WEARA delegates are Ray Mallett and Stephen Worley. The CARA delegates are Jeff Hutton, Graham Dawes and Jeremy Holmes and the Hants & Dorset delegates are Bob Siver, Denny Woodford and Andy Sothcott - although this may all change at the Council AGM in January. The South Coast Council oversees the Rules of the Championships and act as Trustees for the Trophies. The latest Rules of the South Coast council can be downloaded from the home page of the 2017 SCC Web site. The South Coast Council also vets the applications to host the Regatta which is held in rotation between the three South Coat Rowing Associations - with the Hants & Dorset ARA hosting in 2017. The Rules of the South Coast Council (Rule 36) states that The Championship Regatta WILL be advertised to be held NO LATER than the second week in September. Therefore the only two dates available to the Association were Saturday, 2nd or 9 th September, 2017 with the 9 th September the Associations first choice to avoid any potential clash with planned WEARA Regattas. However Eton Dorney was not available for this date and so the 2 nd September was the only available date. While this is earlier than we would have liked a precedent has been set by the date of the 2016 South Coast Championships that took place at Herne Bay on the 3 rd September, 2016 and two years notice of the date was given to the South Coast Council and WEARA and CARA to allow them to plan their 2017 fixture list accordingly. As a Championships hosted by a Coastal Rowing Association - the Association has advised the South Coast Council that coastal boats will be used for the Championship and Open events but that the Junior Regatta will be staged in River boats with some event for Coastal Boats if time allows - and we hope that this will encourage the WEARA Clubs to enter as their clubs have particularly strong junior sections. The events we hope to stage are - Championship events - for the selected representatives from the Hants & Dorset ARA, the Coast ARA and the West of England ARA - in Men's Senior Junior Senior and Junior Coxed Fours - Ladies Senior and Junior Coxed Fours and Masters Coxed Fours. Open and invitation Events for - Men's Senior; Junior Senior, Junior and Novice Coxed Fours - Ladies Senior, Junior and Novice Coxed Fours and Mixed and Ladies Masters Coxed Fours.
Junior events, over 1000m, for - Boys and Girls - -J16 at 4x+, 2x, 1x, Coastal 4x+, Coastal 1x and at J14 for 4x+, 2x, 1x, Traditionally South Coast Championships have been organised by the host Associations club who are hosting the event however in 2007 when the Hants & Dorset ARA first held a Championship at Dorney Lake there was no host Club and so the event was organised on behalf of the Association by a committee drawn from nearly all the Associations affiliated clubs. This arrangement proved to be very successful and has been used by the Association for every Championships they have hosted since. The 2017 Organising committee has a wealth of experience with many of those who served on the organising committee in 2007, 2011 and 2014 willing to serve again including Tim Bull of Lymington who will be Regatta Secretary once again, Sue Sothcott of Poole who is once again serving as the Treasurer, Gary Joyce of Itchen who will cover the key role of Regatta Safety Adviser again and former Hants & Dorset ARA Chairman and President - John Purkess of BTC who chairs the committee. Mike Green of Christchurch is undertaking the liaison with Dorney Lake and Paula Williams of Coalporters, who organises the Hants & Dorset ARA Presentation Dinner each has taken on the responsibility of organising the Friday Night reception, Saturday's Prize giving and the after Regatta party - of which there will be more information in a later E Bulletin. Steve Bull, Hants & Dorset ARA Secretary and Ryde is responsible for the communications and Denny Woodford, one of the Associations South Coast Council delegates is organising the prizes including the pennants and hopefully a souvenir mug. Dave Smith of Westover is looking after the sponsorship and Mike Lewis of Itchen the Regatta program. Josie Bull of Ryde is the contact with our merchandise partner who are "Rock the Boat".
