Every three years the beef industry of Australia comes together in Rockhampton, Central Queensland to stage Australia s National Beef Exposition. In 2015 a record 90,000 people passed through the gates with a further 1,100 registered international delegates from more than 40 countries in attendance. Since the event began in 1988, the Expo has grown from its roots as a Bicentennial celebration of the Queensland cattle industry to an internationally recognised event with major industry, trade and regional community outcomes and is now rated as one of the world s great beef cattle events. Australia s beef cattle industry will again attract national and international attention when it goes on display at the eleventh triennial beef exposition to be staged in Rockhampton, Queensland from 6 to 12 May, 2018. Why attend Beef Australia 2018: Beef Australia 2015 was a success on many levels with the event hailed nationally and internationally within beef circles as being of a very high standard in terms of content, delivery and service and provided many direct benefits to both the Australian beef industry and regional Queensland including: A record 90,000 people passed through the gates Total expo expenditure by all attendees and exhibitors $74M A record 1,100 registered international delegates from more than 40 countries with the majority of the internationals taking part in the Queensland Government Handshakes Business Matching Program Three cattle competitions involving almost 4,300 cattle, with over 2,000 stud, 1,700 commercial cattle, and 580 carcase entries Over 500 trade fair exhibitors showcased their goods and services at Australia s one stop shop for all things beef cattle related 323 domestic and international delegates attended the Beef Australia Symposium 272 industry based seminars were attended by 3,694 people over 4 days Over 3,000 school children from more than 100 schools participated in the school s education program 9 young next generation leaders participated in a new initiative the Graeme Acton Beef Connections Mentor Program 10 property tours hosted over 700 visitors 12 internationally renowned chefs secured with the assistance of MLA 6 restaurants and 30 food outlets 4,000 people attended PBR (Professional Bull Riding) 1200 people attended the Thursday Night Concert featuring Australian artists Thirsty Merc, Caitlyn Shadbolt and Mick Lindsay 25,000 Facebook followers Average gross expenditure per person for the expo $1615 #beefaus2015 was the trending hashtag in Australia on two occasions during the week reaching 1.9 million Twitter users 5,165 media reports that mentioned Beef Australia 2015 reaching a potential cumulative audience of 34 million and had an advertising space rate of $13.5 million Over 6,000 people downloaded the Beef Australia 2015 phone app
CATERING OVERVIEW BA15 / PROPOSAL BA18 Beef Australia 2015 Catering Overview Beef Australia 2015 catering including the following: Six premium restaurants; Beef Australia International Restaurant operated from the Peoples Bar Breakfast Creek Hotel operated from a double story marquee in between the Sidney Kidman Pavilion and McCamely Pavilion Hog s Breath Café operated from the McCamley Pavilion Boucher French Bistro operated from the Sidney Kidman Pavilion Hop & Pickle Restaurant operated from the Walter Pearce Pavilion Ribs and Rumps operated from Victoria Park In addition to walk up patrons the above restaurants hosted a variety of breakfasts, lunches and dinners. As well as the above restaurants Beef Australia 2015 also included a number of mobile fast food outlets offering a range of beef and non-beef snacks and meals, coffee carts, snack trucks, soft drink and ice-cream vendors. Beef Australia 2018 Catering Proposal The Beef 2018 Exposition core events will again be held in the Rockhampton Showground facility and the Board & Management of Beef Australia is confident of attracting the same number of attendees (90,000) if not more. Feedback from Beef Australia 2015 patrons, members and stakeholders indicates they are seeking a greater range of dining options for 2018. Given the large attendance the ability to provide fresh, high quality, pre-prepared beef dishes with a high turnover rate would be advantageous. It is envisaged that catering for the event may include: Premium Restaurants - 80% of menus must include beef ingredients. Companies must be available to provide catering for breakfast, lunch and dinner functions & the public during the event. Food Trucks Do you have a gourmet food truck, and provide customers with unique & creative food experience that celebrates beef 3 Mobile Food Outlets - offering a range of grab & go beef and non-beef snacks and meals. Coffee Carts/Vans - providing a range of hot/cold beverages, desserts and snacks. Snack Vans offering soft drinks, ice cream, confectionary and snacks. In addition, for 2018 Beef Australia for the first time is looking to open the expo on the Sunday 6th May from 4.00pm. Monday 7th May, 2018 will be a public holiday and will be promoted as a family day. Venues of Operation Rockhampton Showground Site: On site operation will be from Sunday May 6 to Friday May 11, 2018. STRUCTURE OF CATERING DELIVERY & INFORMATION Beef Australia will provide a list of all official sponsors once confirmed. Beef Australia however acknowledges that the successful operator(s) may have their own existing suppliers. Operators must seek written approval of Beef Australia to use non-sponsored supplies. Structure of Catering Delivery Beef Australia 2018 is seeking professional caterers to operate food and beverage functions within Beef Australia 2018 areas of activity. In exchange for catering rights and licences the successful operator(s) will pay a licence fee to Beef Australia based on both guaranteed fixed sum payments and an agreed sales commission percentage. While Beef Australia will provide, temporary services including connection points for power, water, waste removal and general site security, the operator will be responsible for all set up costs relating to their establishment. Liquor Licensee Requirements: The successful operator(s) will be required to be the licensee for the provision of alcohol within their licensed area of operation subject to written approval by Beef Australia. The operator must be eligible to hold a license in the state of Queensland. The licensee must ensure all staff members are RSA trained and accredited. Food Safety, Health and Occupational Health and Safety Requirements and Public Liability Insurance: The successful operator(s) will be required to adhere to all applicable state and local government Food Safety, Health and Occupational Health and Safety requirements as they relate to provision of temporary catering facilities at Beef Australia 2018. The successful operator(s) will be required to provide proof of Public Liability Insurance with a minimum liability of $20M. Further Information Use of Beef Australia Sponsors: The successful operator(s) should use official sponsor and supplier products for Beef Australia where possible including: Premium Beef Suppliers note only MSA graded beef is to be used Beer, Wine and Spirit Supplier Coffee and Soft Drinks Other Unique Presentation of Products and Services Relevant to Beef Australia 2018: Consideration will be given to operators who provide value adding benefits by offering unique products or services including: Innovative beef products Themed meals and signature dishes Presentation and theming of venues which celebrate the event and the beef industry 4
SUBMISSIONS & PROCESS Selection Process Upon closure of submissions, Beef Australia will develop a shortlist of potential operators who will be asked to provide further details of their catering operations. Submission to Beef Australia We invite submissions from professional caterers, restaurateurs and publicans to operate catering facilities for Beef Australia 2018. Applications can be submitted online at https://entries.beefaustralia.com.au Only attachments such as menus, photos demonstrating past operations and events, company policies and Insurance Certificates will be accepted and evaluated. An application fee of $200 is payable per site application. The application fee is refundable to unsuccessful applicants.
