BIBLIOGRAPHY FOR TE UREWERA NATIONAL PARK by W B Shaw 1, K Thomson 2 and G A Steward 3 1 Bay of Plenty Conservancy, Department of Conservation, P O Box 1146, Rotorua 2 Biological Sciences Department, University of Private Waikato, Private Bag, Hamilton 3 Forest Research Institute, Ministry of Forestry, Private Bag 3020, Rotorua ABSTRACT A bibliography for Te Urewera National Park has been compiled, containing about 920 references. References are listed alphabetically by author under the following keywords; bibliographies, botany, climate, facilities, general, geology, history, introduced animals, limnology, planning and policy, proposed reserves, rivers, soils, topography and zoology. An author index is included. The bibliography also contains references relevant to other parts of the Urewera tract. INTRODUCTION This bibliography of about 920 references contains a list of references relevant to the Te Urewera National Park. It will not be complete, but is a significant update of the Urewera National Park bibliography compiled by Stewart and Murphy (1980). The management and use of the National Park is inextricably intertwined with local human communities, and Whirinaki Forest Park and other adjoining Conservation Areas. Consequently many references are relevant to places outside the National Park. Each reference has been assigned one or several of the following keywords: bibliographies, botany, climate, facilities, general, geology, history, introduced animals, limnology, planning and policy, proposed reserves, rivers, soils, topography, zoology. References are listed alphabetically by author under each keyword.

Many references are unpublished, and enquiries for these should be directed to the relevant organisations. There may be a charge for photocopying such references. The bibliography was initially assembled using facilities of the University of Waikato Computer Services Department. The assistance of Rex Croft (programmer), Ai Keow Lim (data input), Graham Putt (data input), Ann Waugh (data input) and Sarah (data input and proof-reading) are gratefully acknowledged. A later revision of the bibliography was carried out at the Forest Research Institute, Rotorua with assistance provided by Lisa Krogh (data input). Many references for unpublished file notes were supplied by officers of the Department of Lands and Survey (now Department of Conservation) in Aniwaniwa, Gisborne, Murupara and Taneatua.
