Overview- Africa Africa - is more than two and a half times, the size of the United States. Airports always have a high rate of exchange for the U.S. dollar. Some countries will not take higher denomination bills due to counterfeiting. Some countries will not accept cash older the 4 years. Ground Handling agents are crucial for a successful trip. 4
Overview- Africa Many French speaking countries, some English Portuguese and Arabic. Do not confuse Congo with Democratic Republic of Congo (Zaire). Most African countries require flight plans to be submitted manually. 5
Telecommunications Roaming is relatively good for cellular service IE Blackberry, iphone or GSM. Check with your service provides, be prepared. Local telephone/fax and internet, what are you sending??? How big are your files? SITA and AFTN Good Alternatives Follow up with a phone call and not just an email. 6
Medical Considerations Ensure correct medical vaccinations for Crew and Pax are obtained before arrival. Check medical and travel Websites. Many countries require Yellow Fever vaccinations if arriving / transiting from pandemic areas within 6-10 days prior to arrival. The Republic of South Africa (RSA) has reviewed its yellow fever vaccination requirements policy, which has been implemented from October 1, 2011. Travelers transiting airports in countries with risk of yellow fever transmission will be required to show proof of yellow fever vaccination, regardless of the amount of time spent at the airport. Obtain emergency numbers and Embassy information for the locations you will visit. 7
Permissions Overflights and Landing Permission to Overfly and Land Is Mandatory all locations. Over-flight clearance numbers are required. You may be asked to recite your clearance number to the ATC controller. No dots, dashes in the permit number on the ICAO flight plan. 8
Permissions Over flights and Landing Check for accuracy well before departure dates. Route, origin, destination, aircraft registration, could take time to revise. Immediately review Itinerary. Get permits for adjoining countries incase you need to divert. Have a plan ahead of time for what if s like fuel shortages. Take public holidays into consideration, CAA might be closed. 9
Overview - Africa On the ground Any events (conventions, etc) going on in cities to be visited? Parking problems, hotels may be full due to limited western chains Handling, Fuel Get phone number for handler on the ground, often agent could inform you know their supervisor agents cell numbers ahead of time. Do you have the correct fuel cards or fuel release confirmations? Take confirmations of fuel with you, give handler a copy prior to arrival to double check fuel release locally with fuelling company. Security Get a security brief for Country, City or Hotel before trip starts, if needed. Is Security required for the aircraft (is aircraft going to be parked in a remote spot?) Most countries its not needed. Is it required for the passengers (and crew) 10
Flight Operations On the ground Transportation Are cars from a reliable source?, Check with handler type of vehicles used. Sometime the best they have is the worst in other cities. Get driver information and their contact details before arriving. Hotels Most western chain hotels are available, Always check with handler his recommendations. Be aware of your surroundings, trust you instinct when staying in place. 11
Flight Operations On the ground Catering Order from Hotel where possible if not sure or ask advice from with service provider what is the recommended practice at location operating into. Bring extra container and storage equipment. Give as much notice for orders as possible, order everything you need on arrival or beforehand, it can take time to source products. Ice not always available at airport. Do not always expect high quality, understand constraints. Remember best practice: Different crew meals. 12

Libya On 31 October 2011, the no-fly zone over Libya was lifted. This designation means USA and European companies may now provide flight planning, international trip planning and dispatch control services that include overflying Libya based on the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2017(2011). All Aircrafts need PPR - Prior permission required. Only HLLB, HLLM, HLLT, and HLMS are available for operations. Must fly via specified routes listed in AIP of Libya. No over flights of Libya allowed only flights to/from the four (4) airports mentioned. Highly suggested to get a security brief done from reputable company before operations. 14

Overview- Middle East The Middle East represents more than 10% of the world market, with a steady 30% growth per year (for 2009/2010). Beware of your surrounding and Religious considerations. Predominantly Muslim countries / Cultural difference. Business Days Sunday - Thursday, Saturday - Wednesday in Saudi Arabia. Ground Handling agents are crucial for a successful trip. Politically volatile, know what's happening around you. Disruption of services during Ramadan. 18
Overview Middle East What can be considered offensive and/or pornography? What newspapers, magazine and other sensitive material to that culture, are you carrying into that country? 19
Israel Passport and visa required. Israeli stamp prevents entry: Algeria, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Oman, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Sudan, UAE, and Yemen. Operations between Israel and Persian Gulf Countries Prohibited (Except Jordan and Egypt). Flights to Israel must originate from approved Airport List (Always check the latest list issued by NOTAM). 20
Overview Middle East Telecommunications Second largest growing market for mobile phone usage. Blackberry Services used frequently. Roaming coverage relatively good check with your service provider. Internet improved significantly 21
Medical Considerations Quality relatively high especially in Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and UAE. Progressive introduction of sophisticated medical equipment. Some medications are considered narcotics in UAE and may be seized so it is best to carry Dr s prescription with you. Flight Operations On the ground Transportation High Quality SUV available at most places in the Middle East. Handler can make arrangements if needed. Driving in Middle East can be very aggressive, its normal. Hotels Most western chain hotels are available in popular cities. Be aware of your surroundings, trust your instincts. If your hotel is near a mosque, expect to hear a call for prayer 4 to 5 times a day. This is normal so don t go and complain at the front desk! 25

Saudi Arabia 4 Airports of Entry: OEJN / OEDF / OERK / OEMA There is no cabotage issues in Saudi, but domestic flights need special approval in which the handler will automatically apply for. Amendment is made to the permit. OEJN and OERK have the most traffic. Pork and Alcohol strictly forbidden, unlike some other Middle East countries. Crew Passports can be taken on arrival when the customs voucher is issued. Government invoicing slow! It can take 6 months to 1 year. 27
Saudi Arabia The Aprons at both Jeddah and Riyadh are overflowing with private aircrafts. Ground support is rated good, but slower than you might be used to in North America Ramp Security at the major airports is sufficient (TSA style). 28
Saudi Arabia There is random screening for pornography and / or pirated software. USB device s of all electronics including mobile phones and MP3 players will be checked. Female crew are required to wear an Abaya when exiting the aircraft or terminal. They are available for purchase on arrival. Operational restrictions during Hajj season is common. Expect a busy apron and long taxi times. 29
Saudi Arabia Pre-flight planning essential for successful trip! Sponsor needed who is company you are doing business with? GACA to receive full name, address, phone/fax/email of sponsor. Visa required for pax and crew (crew can get on arrival and it is valid for 72hrs) Riyadh and Jeddah have Royal Terminals. These accommodate the royal family. Only to be used if a royal family member is onboard. 30

Saudi Arabia OEJN Airport is located about 45 min drive from City Jeddah is the closet airport to Islam holiest shine Mecca, which make this a very busy airport. Dedicated terminal for HAJJ flights. 24 hrs daily Jeddah has 3 parallel runways Crew and Pax clear customs and immigration in GAT Both Jet Aviation and Arrabasco are based in the General Aviation Terminal. 32
