JERSEY & GUERNSEY Combine two contrasting Islands in the stunning Channel Islands Tour Code: 78100 Grade 4 1st wk, Grade 5 2nd wk Holiday Duration: 15 days HOLIDAY DATES 5th May 2018-19th May 2018, 2nd Jun 2018-16th Jun 2018 14th Jul 2018-28th Jul 2018, 15th Sept 2018-29th Sept 2018 Combine two contrasting Islands in the stunning Channel Islands HOLIDAY HIGHLIGHTS Walking Jersey's rugged north coast path Enjoying the unusual Anglo/French culture of the Channel Islands Views across rocky coastlines, historic defences and tranquil landscapes Great coastal and inland walks Traditional England with a French touch The chance to visit Herm and Sark from Guernsey Centuries of history and island defences

JERSEY & GUERNSEY Our holiday begins in Jersey; the largest of the Channel Islands and great for a week's island walking. Beautiful scenery and fascinating small towns and villages, gardens and historic monuments. Rich in flowers and wildlife and almost completely unspoiled. We explore the island's network of footpaths and quiet country lanes and use local transport to visit Jersey's museums, megalithic monuments, fortifications and tropical gardens. Reminders of the island's history await discovery. You're conscious of the blue Channel seas never far away; the island's beaches, coves, rugged rock formations and spectacular heather clad cliffs are a delight to wander around. We enjoy our second week on the island of Guernsey. We explore the dramatic coast and picturesque interior of Guernsey and some of the other islands of the Bailiwick. We Walk some of the best stretches of the coast, with cliff-top paths and fine views out to sea. Along the coast are many signs of Guernsey's history, from the WW2 defences built by the German occupiers to fortifications against Napoleon; right back to Megalithic tombs from 3000-2000BC. There are also artistic sites, such as Renoir's Viewpoint. Inland, Guernsey is criss-crossed with Green Lanes through picturesque and varied countryside. Sark is a short ferry ride away, where 'traffic' consists of tractors, horses and bicycles just three miles by one and a half, we'll also get the chance to sample the best this wonderful island has to offer. WHATS INCLUDED Half board en-suite accommodation at each hotel Flights between the UK mainland Ferry inter-island transfers are included. If you wish to fly between the islands there is a supplement from 25 per person Services of a dedicated tour leader Transfers between airports, ferryport and hotels as appropriate All local travel costs to and from the trailheads if necessary (including the boat fare to Sark whilst in Guernsey, all public bus fares in Guernsey and a 7 day unlimited bus pass in Jersey). Price based on sharing a twin room with private facilities. Regrettably these two island holidays are not available from Gatwick. Please contact us regarding flights from other regional airports. HOLIDAY GRADE This Grade 4 moderate holiday includes full and half day walks at a moderate pace over hilly terrain and is likely to include an element of sightseeing as well. Half day walking will probably include about 3 hours of walking, with full days having around 5 hours. Expect ascents and descents of up to about 600m. See the Walks & Excursions section for more information. This is a Grade 5 moderate holiday which includes full day walks with moderate amounts of ascent and descent. The paths are mostly good, but there may be some steep and rough ground. Walks will last up to 6 hours and could involve as much as 750m of ascent and descent. Some walks will be less demanding but equally rewarding. See the Walks & Excursions section for more information.

In our explorations we'll get to see the best of this beautiful island, a loyal outpost of the English Crown for the best part of a millennium. 80 miles south east of England and 30 miles from the French coast, the island blooms all year round and is a paradise for bird lovers, photographers and historians. We will explore the magnificent cliff tops and sandy bays of the coast, two centuries of fortifications, the quiet lanes leading into the island's interior and take the chance to slow down to Guernsey's calming pace of life. The walking programme may include a selection of walks from the following, which give an indication of the nature of the walking terrain and the format of the holiday. Walk on the north coast from Le Dehus to Grandes Rocques taking in coastal fortifications and prehistoric tombs along the way. About 10 miles, 4 hours walking and 1000ft of ascent. A day on the spectacular southern cliff top path from Petit BÔt Bay to Pleinmont with rugged coastal views from lofty vantage points, the tiny fishing harbour of La Pointe de la Moye and the intriguing WWII range and direction finding towers. About 9 miles, 4½ hours walking and 1500ft of ascent. Walking the south eastern cliffs of the island from Petit BÔt Bay to St Peter Port, passing the picturesque Moulin Huet Bay with its several small ports and Clarence Battery with great views of the neighbouring Channel Islands. About 10 miles, 6 hours walking and 2,000ft of ascent. We take the ferry to the island of Sark, eight miles to the east, to explore the lanes and paths of this charming island. We'll see as much as we can before sailing back to Guernsey. About 6½ miles, 3 hours walking and 1000ft of ascent.

A day exploring the interior of the island following its green lanes and Ruettes Tranquilles to visit Les Vauxbelets, St Saviour's Church and Reservoir before continuing to picturesque L'Eree Bay and the causeway to Lihou Island. About 9 miles, 4 hours walking and 500ft of ascent. A free day for your own explorations of the island, to take things easy, go shopping or visit the nearby island of Herm, just off St Peter Port. Optional Excursions A range of local excursions and activities may be available to book in your destination through a local operator. We have no involvement in such activities or excursions which are not run, supervised or controlled in any way by us. Footwear Lightweight waterproof walking boots with a good moulded rubber sole (such as Vibram or similar) and a deep tread which provide ankle support are strongly recommended and may be essential for some walks. We recommend that you either wear your walking boots or shoes or pack them and some waterproofs in your hand luggage as in the unlikely event that your hold luggage is delayed, you will still be able to participate in the holiday programme. Kit List Outdoor activities are always more enjoyable if you are prepared. The following list is a basic guideline that will enhance your experience. Please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions you may have. A basic kit list is likely to include: - Waterproof jacket (Goretex or similar) and trousers - Lightweight, quick drying trousers - Several polo shirts, T-shirts or specialist walking shirts - Fleece jacket - Comfortable walking socks - Warm hat and gloves (if appropriate) - Sun hat, sunglasses, lip salve and high SPF sun block - Swimwear (if appropriate) - Day sack (25 litre capacity) to comfortably carry the kit you'll take out on your days activity - Strong polythene bags to keep the contents of your daypack dry - Water bottle(s) - at least 1 litre capacity - Basic first aid kit (plasters, blister treatment, antiseptic etc) - Insect repellent - Waterproof bag or container and knife for your lunch - Walking/trekking poles (if applicable) Water-to-Go An alternative to bottled water from single-use sealed water bottles is filtered water from a refillable bottle containing its own water filter such as a Water-to-go bottle available from www.watertogo.eu. Just fill up from any water source and save the environment from disposable plastic bottles. We have negotiated an exclusive 15% discount with our partners Water-to-Go for you as a thank you for helping the environment. Please go to their website at www.watertogo.eu and enter the code RWH17 when ordering. In addition, Water-to-Go will match the discount with a donation to our charity, Heart & Sole, which will allow us to continue to make a difference in the countries you visit on our holidays. Trekking Poles Many of our clients find walking poles hugely beneficial when walking. They can both reduce stress on the knees and aid confidence. If you use them please make sure that you have the rubber tips covering the sharp metal points. There is increasing evidence that the bare metal tips are damaging footpaths both in the UK and abroad. You might wish to take a small bottle of antibacterial hand gel with you for times when you're unable to wash your hands. Language English Insurance You must be adequately insured to join our holidays. We do not insist that you insure with us but we require that you are adequately insured for the nature of your holiday. You will be unable to participate in our local walking and other activity programmes without being able to demonstrate that you have valid travel insurance. Please ensure that as a minimum your travel insurance policy covers you for medical expenses, mountain rescue and emergency repatriation in the event of illness or injury, and that your policy provides adequate cover for the activities, included and optional, you are likely to participate in during your holiday. See our brochure or website for further advice regarding holiday insurance. Whoever you insure with, please ensure that you take full details with you on holiday and provide our tour leader with your insurer's name, the policy number and emergency assistance contact numbers.

Please note that it is not possible to obtain travel insurance from a UK insurer once you have left the UK. The UK National Health Service does not operate in the Channel Islands, with most medical practitioners in private practice and patients being required to pay for treatment and any use of the ambulance service. Although a reciprocal medical agreement exists between Jersey and Guernsey and the UK mainland covering immediate and necessary treatment of conditions which arise during your stay, travel insurance with medical cover is essential for this holiday. Personal Safety The UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office provides up to date information on security and local laws for travellers, together with current passport and visa information, at www.gov.uk/travelaware. Please take a few minutes to look at the current advice on your planned destination. Please be aware of what's going on around you, take sensible precautions with your credit cards and passport and avoid displays of wealth such as wearing expensive jewellery or watches. Do not carry more cash on you than you will need for each day, and we recommend that a money belt is used. Cultural Awareness Responsible Travel We're committed to ethical tourism in all our destinations. Our holidays are designed for you to discover the essence of the country you are visiting. Travelling in small groups not only gives you an up close and personal experience of your destination, but minimises your impact on the immediate environment. We feel that the most important starting point to protect the environment is to be out in it. For more details visit our website. Heart & Sole We appreciate that we are in a fortunate position to be able to use our profits to help make a difference to people's lives. Heart & Sole is a venture managed by our office staff, whose aim is to reach the heart of the communities in the countries we visit. Through Heart & Sole, we hope to make more of a long term, direct impact to these communities, particularly in less developed countries where even a small amount goes a long way. See our website for more information and details of some of the projects we support. Communication Mobile Phones Please do provide us with a mobile phone contact number. We will only use this to contact you with important information relating to your holiday arrangements. Please do keep your mobile phones switched on and readily available when travelling to the airport or if delayed in transit so that we can contact you with any last minute information relating to your travel arrangements. As a matter of courtesy, please switch off your mobile phone during walks, or endeavour to minimise its use. Please also try to minimise the use of mobile devices during group meals. Feedback We welcome all comments about our holidays and value ideas for the future. If you have provided us with an email address we will invite you to complete an online questionnaire or to add feedback to our page on independent review site 'Feefo'. Important Information Please note that this Holiday Information sheet may be periodically updated and reissued. In most cases the revisions will be minor and the overall nature of the holiday will remain unchanged. Should we make a major change to your holiday arrangements between you booking your holiday and your date of travel we will notify you to specifically draw your attention to any significant change. You may wish to review the latest version of this Holiday Information Sheet online prior to travel. Please note that any advertised offers, benefits or initiatives may be discontinued at any time.
