Flight Training

Why McMurray Aviation? McMurray Aviation provides a flight training program to meet your needs. Over the past years we have developed a reputation for offering quality instruction, a friendly atmosphere and a good value as a flight training academy. Our flight Training is set in a unique environment, where you get the experience of bush flying with the busy atmosphere of a high density airport. We have years of experience teaching pilots, managing an aviation company and of course, thousands of hours of flying. This makes the staff at McMurray Aviation specially equipped to teach students. Discovery Flight Think you want to learn how to fly but aren t to sure? Ground School Syllabus Orientation, Licensing, Rules & Guidelines Aerodynamics and Theory of flight Aerodynamics and theory of Flight Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARS) Radio Communications, tower Tour Airframes, Engines Systems, Flight Instruments Human Factors/ Pilot decision making Meteorology l Meteorology ll Meteorology lll Flight Operations Navigation - Theory and Principles Navigation - Flight Computers Navigation - Planning Part l Navigation - Planning Part ll Radio Navigation Review The discovery flight is designed to help you understand what flying is about and all that s involved. Allow yourself to get introduced with the operation of the aircraft where a certified instructor will take you up on a twenty minute flight where you sit in the pilot seat. In the airplane you will start, taxi, take off, and help land it. The cost for your discovery flight is only $100. Your discovery flight will actually be your very first loggable flight lesson and probably the beginning of a lifelong passion. Ground School Private and Recreational pilot ground school runs most Tuesday and Thursday nights from 7:00pm to 9:30pm. Our classes exceed the minimum 40 hr requirement by Transport Canada and include all required subject material for recreational and private pilot permits. Can t make every class? Not a problem. As our ground school course runs continuously, any classes you miss in one semester can easily be picked up in the next. Students are welcome to participate in ground school class as many times as necessary, and are always welcome back to brush up on knowledge. If you just need to make up a few classes, you can also pay a ground breifing rate of $55/hr Instructors McMurray Aviation employs two - three full time flight instructors. Our seven day instructor coverage means that you can train when it suits you best. We are here to help you experience the freedom of flight.

FAQ s Aircraft At McMurray Aviation, we have a fleet of 4 Cessna 172 aircraft available for training. These aircraft are professionally maintained by on-site aviation mechanics, following Transport Canada guidelines. If you own your aircraft, we would be pleased to provide training for you as well. Fuel Injected vs. Carburetor Fuel Injected engines, such as the one used by FXVA, provide more uniform distribution of fuel to all cylinders. This provides better cooling, fuel savings, and increased power. The fuel injected engine has better cold weather starting capabilities. Carburetor engines, such as GJSE, GYYE, and GRUG, are fairly common in most light trainers. The carburetor mixes the correct amount of fuel and air. Due to a decrease in temperature it is subject to icing which restricts the airflow to the cylinders. To melt the ice, carburetor heat is applied which robs the engine of its power to enriching of the mixture resulting in wasted fuel. C-GJSE This aircraft excels during cross-county and instrument training flights due to the added navigational equipment such as ILS, VOR, and ADF. It also has long range fuel tanks and a slightly more powerful engine (160HP) C-FXVA The fuel injected Cessna 172SP has 180HP and cruising speed of 110KTAS. This aircraft has a Bendix King GPS with moving map, and other advanced navigational instruments to take your training to the next level. C-GRUG & C-GYYE Great for learning the basics; this aircraft has everything a student pilot requires during the initial stages of training. It has a GPS and a basic instrument panel. Do I have to pay for schooling all at once? No, the only initial payments are ground school($300), and the cost of your books ($250). payments can be made after each session, or pre-paid on account. How do I know if McMurray Aviation is right for me? Stop by and meet our instructors and staff. Take a discovery flight, which is the first lesson of flight training and your first loggable hours. How long will it take to get my license? Everyone goes at their own pace, Generally it takes students any where from 4-8 months. How much is this going to cost me? See the cost and requirement charts Can I do ground school if I work shift work? Yes! your ground school is a life time fee, and the ground school is always repeating. So whatever classes you miss, you can take in the second rotation. You also have the option of doing ground Instruction for $55/hr to make up a few missed classes. What happens if I temporarily discontinue my flight training? Students can withdraw and attend the next scheduled ground school session at no additional charge. Didn t answer your question? Our Instructors would be happy to answer your questions! Contact them by email flight-training@mcmurrayaviation.com or give them a call at the office 1(780) 791-2182
