Spring Break in Paris Friday, March 21st to Sunday, March 30th, 2014 What you ll do... Friday, March 21st You ll depart from Huntsville or Nashville International Airport bound for Europe. Usually there is a stop in one of the major cities of the east coast in order to catch your trans-atlantic flight to Paris. Saturday, March 22nd After flying through the night, you ll land at Charles de Gaulle International Airport. After collecting your luggage and passing through customs, you ll transfer into the city, usually by train. On evening one, there s a short time for resting and refreshing at the hotel before heading out into the city for dinner and some sightseeing. You will ascend the 58-story Tour Montparnasse for the best views of Paris as the sun goes down and the lights come on in the city. Sunday, March 23rd You ll visit the Royal Palace of Versailles, just outside of Paris. In addition to touring the palace itself, you ll want to visit the gardens, since Sunday is the only day the world-famous fountains are turned on. You will also have the opportunity to visit the Grand and Petit Trianon, small palaces built by the king on the grounds of Versailles in order to escape the pressures of palace life. Also not to be missed is the village-like hameau of Marie Antoinette. Later, you ll head back to Paris for dinner and a visit to the Sacré-Coeur Basilica in Montmartre, the bohemian quarter of Paris. In Montmartre, you ll also visit the Place du Tertre, where an artist will paint your portrait for a price. Monday, March 24th This morning you ll take a bus tour of the city, with stops at major monuments. After lunch, a visit to the Louvre museum, where you can take your time strolling through the various exhibits, including the Mona Lisa and Winged Victory of Samothrace. Tuesday, March 25 th This morning you ll visit Notre Dame de Paris, the main cathedral of Paris and the backdrop for many famous events in the history of the city. After a quick tour of other sites of interest on the Ile de la Cité, you ll cross the Seine to visit the Hotel de Ville and the Museum of Modern Art (Beaubourg). After a lunch in the Marais, the old Jewish quarter of Paris, you ll visit the Musée Carnavalet, a museum dedicated to the history of the city of Paris. Later, the métro will take you to the Champs-Élysée, where you can visit the Arc de Triomphe and then stroll down

the world-famous boulevard for shopping and dinner. End up in the Place de la Concorde for evening views of the fountains in the giant square near the United States Embassy and the home of the President of France, the Élysée Palace. Wednesday, March 26 th In the morning, take a stroll in the Jardin du Luxembourg near the Luxembourg Palace, home of the French Senate. Then take a walking tour of St. Germain-des-Près, the medieval quarter of Paris. Here you will find the oldest church in the city, as well as the Sorbonne (the University of Paris), and many book shops. Thursday, March 27th On Thursday, you ll head to the Musée d Orsay, the beautiful former train station which houses Impressionist works of art. You ll then cross over the Seine for a visit to the Tuileries Gardens of the Louvre, the Madeleine Church, and the Opera House made famous in the Phantom of the Opera. You ll cap off your visit to this area with a tour of the Musée Fragonard, the museum of the French perfume industry. Friday, March 28 th and Saturday, March 29th Enjoy free days in Paris to do some shopping, or to just enjoy strolling through areas of the city that interest you. On Friday evening, you ll enjoy a ride in one of the city s bateaux mouches where you can catch the sights on the Seine River as night falls. Other things to do: Visit the Père Lachaise cemetery where famous people such as Jim Morrison and the pianist Chopin are buried. Tour the catacombs of Paris, underground tombs dating from centuries before. Climb the bell towers of Notre Dame de Paris. Sit outdoors at a café and people watch. Flâner! (Wander the streets!)

Description: A nine-day intensive visit to Paris, the capital of France. A particular effort has been made to balance cultural and educational experiences with typical tourist activities such as shopping and dining. Costs: Approximately $2,750 based on current exchange rates, airfares, and hotel prices, with a minimum of ten participants. I agree to release, indemnify, and hold harmless the University of North Alabama and Dr. Keith Lindley, tour director, from, and agree not to sue the Released Parties for, any and all claims, demands, actions, lawsuits, settlements, judgments, damages, losses, costs and expenses of any nature whatsoever (including attorneys fees) on account of or arising out of any and all personal injury, death, bodily injury, mental anguish, emotional distress, physical, property or other damage that I may suffer from any cause whatsoever related in any way to my participation in the tour in which I am hereby applying to participate. I further agree to release, indemnify and hold harmless the Released Parties from any and all acts of God, war (whether declared or undeclared), terrorist activities or threats of terrorist activities, instability in a destination country, incidents of violence, public health issues or quarantine or threats of public health issues, substantial currency fluctuations, strikes, government restrictions, fire or severe weather conditions that make it impossible or commercially unreasonable in the opinion of Dr. Keith Lindley and/or the University of North Alabama to conduct the tour, or the acts or omissions of any other agents over which the Released Parties have no direct or indirect control, including, without limitation, airlines, railways, bus companies, hotels, shipping companies, guides and sub-contracted agents or tour operators. I understand that the University of North Alabama does not own or operate any entity that provides goods or services on my tour. 3. I agree to abide by Dr. Keith Lindley s regulations during my tour. Regulations include, but are not limited to, a prohibition on hitchhiking, the driving or renting of any motor vehicle, or having visitors of the opposite sex in students rooms. Failure to do so may result in Dr. Keith Lindley terminating me from the tour immediately. I understand that to disobey such rules or directions is to waive the right to a refund of any part of my tour fee, and that Dr. Keith Lindley may send me home at my own expense. 4. I agree to abide by all local laws when abroad, including those concerning drugs and alcohol. I understand that if I abuse or disobey such laws, even unintentionally, I waive my right to a refund of any part of the tour fee, and that Dr. Keith Lindley may send me home at my own expense. I also understand that should local authorities be involved, I will be subject to the laws of France. 5. I understand and agree that if I become ill or incapacitated, Dr. Keith Lindley may take any action he deems necessary for my safety and well-

being, including securing medical treatment (at my expense) and transporting me home. 6. I understand that prices are subject to unforeseen surcharges or price increases. 7. I understand that it is my responsibility to secure the necessary travel documents (passport and visas) for travel to France. My failure to do so does not constitute grounds for a refund. 8. I understand that I will be required to pay for any phone calls or incidental personal expenses that I incur at hotels, as well as for any damage I cause to hotel rooms, buses, or other property. 9. I understand that this tour has been designed for students, as reflected in the pacing, educational content, accommodations and other aspects of the tour.
