Tanzania Safari $6,999.00 February 2-13, 2019 Arusha Lake Manyara Serengeti Ndutu Lake Masek Ngorongoro Saturday, February 2 Overnight Flight We depart on our overnight flight to Kilimanjaro Airport. Sunday, February 3 Arusha Upon our evening arrival at Kilimanjaro airport, we meet our guide and transfer to our hotel in Arusha. After a late dinner and a long two days, we are ready for bed. D Accommodations: Lake Duluti Serena Hotel Monday, February 4 Arusha Our first safari adventure begins today with a short drive to Arusha National Park, of the Ngurudoto crater and the Momela lakes with the scenic backdrop of Mount Meru. Arusha has a wide diversity of wildlife and scenery including mountainous and aquatic birds, hippos, giraffes and the acrobatic black-and-white colobus monkeys. Afterwards, we visit to a nearby school where we get a small glimpse of life for schoolchildren here. Finally, we return to our lodge for a late lunch and time to relax. B/L/D Tuesday, February 5 Lake Manyara National Park This morning we drive to Tarangire National Park for a game drive. Upon entering the park, we notice the vast number of baobab trees. The gently rolling countryside is dotted with these majestic trees, which seem to dwarf the animals that feed beneath them. We see a variety of species here as Tarangire has the largest concentration of wildlife outside the Serengeti. After lunch at the Tarangire Lodge, we have an afternoon game drive in Lake Manyara National Park. Situated under the wall of the Great Rift Valley, it is one of the oldest and most popular sanctuaries in East Africa. This park has a large variety of habitats enabling it to support a wealth of wildlife in its small area. 70% of the park is comprised of the shallow alkaline lake, which attracts a wide variety water fowl, including migratory flamingoes, which arrive in the hundreds of thousands. The acacia woodland area hosts the park s legendary tree-climbing lions. Buffaloes, leopards, hippos, zebras, wildebeests and giraffes can be found in the grassy floodplain area. B/L/D Accommodations: Lake Manyara Serena Lodge Wednesday, February 6 Serengeti National Park We have an exciting day today as we travel to the Serengeti National Park where after lunch we have an afternoon game drive. The Serengeti is most complex and least disturbed ecosystem on earth and Tanzania s greatest park. Its unique combination of diverse habitats enables it to support more than 30 species of large herbivores and nearly 500 species of birds. The landscape here has been sculpted by the concerted action of wind, rain and sun, so it varies from grass plains in the south, savanna with scattered acacia trees in the center, grassland in the north and extensive woodland to the west. Small rivers, lakes and swamps are scattered throughout. Rising in the southeast are the great volcanic masses and craters of the Ngorongoro Highlands, creating a spectacular backdrop. B/L/D Accommodations: Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge

Thursday, February 7 Serengeti National Park Our Serengeti adventures continue with an early morning departure for a spectacular view of the rising sun. Afterwards we have a box breakfast at the Visitor Center followed by a game drive. We return for lunch at our lodge and some time to relax before departing on a late afternoon game drive in the Seronera area. For those looking for even more adventure, there is an opportunity for an optional morning hot air balloon ride over the Serengeti. B/L/D Friday, February 8 Ndutu Lake Masek This morning we have a game drive in the Serengeti and then travel to the Ndutu area in the northern part of the Ngorongoro Conservation area. We have lunch at our luxury tented lodge on the banks of the Lake Masek. After lunch we have a game drive in Ndutu. Just south of the Serengeti, the plains of Ndutu are inhabited by herds of wildebeest, zebra and antelope. Other game includes giraffes, elephants, hyenas and antelopes. In addition, all six cats (lion, leopard, cheetah, caracal, serval and African wildcat) can be found here. This evening we may spot wildlife from the platform of our tented lodge. This eco-friendly lodge has all the comforts of including and en-suite bathroom with an outdoor shower enabling us to shower under the stars. B/L/D Accommodations: Lake Masek Tented Lodge Saturday, February 9 Ndutu Lake Masek After breakfast surrounded by breathtaking scenery, we start our morning game drive in the Ndutu plains. Returning to Lake Masek, we take a break and have lunch at our lodge before going out for another game drive in the afternoon. After a busy day we welcome time to relax on the terrace, enjoy the sunset and observe the wildlife from the comfort of our lodge. B/L/D Sunday, February 10 Ngorongoro Crater Travel to Ngorongoro stopping en route at the Olduvai Gorge, one of Africa s most important archeological sites. It was there from the 1950 s to 1970 s that Louis and Mary Leakey discovered some of the oldest humanoid remains. After lunch, we visit a Maasai boma (village) to get a taste of their traditional customs and way of life. Maasai and wildlife live side by side in a multi-use land experiment. The Maasai herders still retain watering rights in the Ngorongoro Crater and every day hundreds of cattle following special trails on the journey to and from the mineral-rich watering places around the crater floor. We return to the Ngorongoro Crater rim for our overnight. B/L/D Accommodations: Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge Tour Price $6,999.00 With 18 or more paying participants Tour is limited to 24 travelers Early registration is encouraged Included in tour price Round trip, economy class air transportation from Minneapolis, including current departure & security taxes Land transportation via six passenger safari vehicle Double occupancy accommodations in (four-star) Serena hotels and lodges, including one luxury tented lodge All meals from arrival in Africa to return flight to Minneapolis Bottled water while on game drives and in hotels All sightseeing indicated as indicated on itinerary Escorted from Minneapolis Taxes for all included services All tips during the safari, including end of tour gratuity to driver/guide Tanzania visa ($100) Luggage handling Not included in tour price Items of a personal nature, such as passport fees and personal spending money Beverages, other than as indicated above and coffee/tea at breakfast Single room supplement of $595, subject to availability Airline baggage fees (if applicable) Travel Insurance To access more info about the tour: Monday, February 11 Ngorongoro Crater Early this morning we descend into the crater for an unforgettable game drive and picnic breakfast. The Ngorongoro Crater floor, a sheer drop of 2,000 feet below the rim, has an area of over 100 square miles, with a diameter of 11 miles. The sight of the Ngorongoro Crater is stunning. Home to over 30,000 animals, it teems with plains animals, including wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, eland, rhino and a large predator population of lions, hyenas and jackals. Cheetah and leopard are also seen here. We return to the lodge for a late lunch with the remainder of the day at leisure to relax at the lodge, enjoy the scenery and perhaps spot some animals.
