Fish Fact File Fish have been on earth for over 450 million years, they were here before dinosaurs Sharks are the only fish that have eyelids There are more Black Marlin caught on the Great Barrier Reef than in the rest of the world. Fish can drown in water if there is not enough Oxygen. Sharks and rays have to swim all the time, even when sleeping, or else they will sink to the bottom of the ocean. There are 6,000 kilometres of shoreline in Queensland. Queensland has 1855 species of fish - 1625 of which are found on the Great Barrier Reef. 50% of all fishing in Queensland is shore based. Lindy s Lines Our Lifestyle Program endeavours to ensure each resident has the opportunity to participate in meaningful social activities, to have social interactions with others, take pleasure in the different entertainment provided and involve themselves in group activities or outings. To ensure we are doing the right things, for the right people, at the right time we are constantly seeking your feedback. At the monthly Resident and Relatives meeting the feedback we obtain from that meeting develops a lot of our activities. You do not have to wait for the meeting to give us your feedback, please talk to any member of the New Auckland Place team or alternatively use feedback forms that are available. April and May have been busy months. The Anzac Day Ceremony in April was well received and with a large number of participants, a small march past was coordinated into the ceremony, thanks to Jo Ford and the Dolphin Scout Troop. Thanks to the hospitality team for the very nice Anzac biscuits. We would also like to thank the Blue Care Auxiliary for the wonderful fashion parade provided for the Mother s Day Luncheon. Gauging by resident smiles the recent harbour cruise was a big success with a total of 35 residents and 25 family members cruising the harbour for a wonderful days outing. I would also like to mention that during the cooler months (winter), Sunday brunches and Family BBQs will not be held. These functions will resume in September. Lindy and the Lifestyle Team Day Care Centre Visit Recently a Day Care Centre visited, with residents enjoying the lively environment that a group of children aged between 3-5 brings to a place. The children danced to the melodic sounds from Pat the Rabbit Ear s electronic organ. Children looked on in amazement when Lindy-Lou the clown made a surprise visit and performed with her amazing dancing blue bo-bo bird. The three most commonly caught Queensland fish (30% of all fish caught) are Yellowfin Bream, Sand Whiting and Trumpeter Whiting. The most commonly caught fish on the Great Barrier Reef are Coral Trout, Red Throat Emperor, Tropical Snapper and Sweetlip. About 45% of Queensland fishermen own a boat http://www.queensland.com/en- US/Things-to-See-and- Do/Fishing/Infographic-Fishing
Anzac Day Ceremony -24 th April 2016 Anzac Day goes beyond the anniversary of the landing on Gallipoli in 1915. It is the day on which we remember all Australians who served and died in war and on operational service. The spirit of Anzac, with its qualities of courage, mateship, and sacrifice, continues to have meaning and relevance for our sense of national identity. At New Auckland Place we believe in the spirit of Anzac, and this was definitely displayed at our most recent Anzac Day Ceremony held on the 24 th of April 2016. Most residents attended the ceremony and reflected in the importance of remembering those that have served for Australia s Armed Forces and those that played supportive roles to the Armed forces such as nurses etc. The ceremony included a small march past of residents and a troop of Dolphin Scouts including Cub Scouts, Scouts, Venturers, Rovers, and Leaders. A speech was made by an RSL representative in honour of the Anzacs, then the Hymn Abide with me was sung. Movingly the Last Post was bugled, a minutes silence observed, and then the Rouse was bugled as the Australian Flag was raised to full mast. A stirring rendition lead by Catherine P and Leah H, of Advance Australia Fair was sung by everyone. Residents, family and friends then enjoyed a morning tea provided by New Auckland Place, although some morning tea beverages looked nothing like a white tea or white coffee.
