Community Park Baseball/Softball/Soccer/Disc Golf Complex This 40-acre property is now a state-of-theart recreation facility featuring three soccer fields with irrigation, four regulation baseball/softball diamonds with irrigation and fencing, a lighted 250-car paved and gravel parking area, and renovated concessions/restroom building. It also has a playground, Disc Golf course and hiking trails! Memorial Park Land Entry to Our Beautiful Harbor It s a lovely place to enjoy a picnic or to just relax while watching birds, boats and fishing action. In 2005 a bandshell was constructed in the park which has live entertainment most weekends throughout the summer. There are picnic tables, grills and public restrooms within the park. Memorial Park is the site of the East Jordan Garden Club Farmer s Market, May through October.
Rotary Skate Park Skate Park 213 State Street The Rotary Centennial Skate Park is for open recreation seasonally spring through fall. The park features a half-pipe, quarter-pipe, multiple grind rails, and multipurpose ramp. The Skate Park is open at 9:00 a.m. until dark. Sportsmans Park Where Lake Charlevoix and the Jordan River Meet This 5-acre park is located just across the bridge from downtown East Jordan. Located at the great vantage point where Lake Charlevoix and the Jordan River meet, it is the perfect spot for viewing waterfowl and other wildlife including Bald Eagles and Osprey. There are several fishing piers at the south end of the park. Spring brings fishermen, Rainbow and Brown Trout, while Fall brings the return of spawning Chinook Salmon. Sportsman s Park is the home of the Jordan River Watershed Center and the Friends of the Jordan. This park features the historic EJ & SRR Old #6 Train Engine, which fascinates kids and adults alike. It s a lovely place to enjoy a picnic or just relax while watching birds, boats and fishing action.
Elm Pointe Featured on Michigan National Historic Register Located on M-66 at the point where Monroe Creek winds its way to the South Arm of Lake Charlevoix is Elm Pointe, one of East Jordan s most lovely parks. Elm Pointe is the site of the pioneer homestead of John Monroe and Marceline LaLonde Monroe and their family. The property, containing 11 acres of land with frontage on the South Arm of Lake Charlevoix, was given to the City of East Jordan in 1972 by then-owners Augustine F. Westgate and her husband George. The home on the property is available for weddings, family reunions, graduation parties, etc. The park has a public beach and picnic areas and is open 10 a.m.- 10 p.m., May 15 through October 15. The East Jordan Portside Art and Historical Museum is also located on the property. Admission to the park and museum are free of charge. The Cygred Riley Art Gallery celebrates the present with a fine display of art purchased from prize winning participants in the annual Portsdie Arts Fair. GAR Park Grand Army of the Republic Park is located on Main Street across from the American Legion Hall. Watson Field Watson Field has a playground set and restroom building. It is located at 98 Division Street. Art & Music Concerts in the Park Friday Summer nights from 7:00-9:00 pm in the Memorial Park Band Shell enjoy concerts in the park! Plus Jordan Valley Community Band is there every Thursday in July at 7:30 pm. Jordan River Arts Council Located at 301 Main Street in downtown East Jordan in the old Carnegie Library building, JRAC provides quality workshops, exhibits, live performances and fine art lectures. Festivals & Events Freedom Festival Freedom, family, and friendship are celebrated during the five day event. The Festival features a Block Party with food, music, and games for all ages, Youth Parade, Grande Parade, Kids/Teen Night, Carnival, music, food and a fireworks display over the South Arm of Lake Charlevoix. Last week in June South Arm Classics & Micro Brew Tent If you appreciate the beauty of classic cars and boats, this event is a must go! The boat show is located on the shore of Lake Charlevoix at Memorial Park. Friday night music in the park is followed by classic cars and boat shows, artist booths, children s activities, fun, food and live music and a Brewfest Tent on Saturday. 2nd Saturday of July Sweaty Yeti 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run Run with the Yeti in July! The professionally timed 5K begins at Boswell Stadium in East Jordan and ends with a beautiful wooded run. This is a family friendly event welcoming all levels; walk, run, or dance your way to the finish line. Proceeds benefit the Barber- Galvin Memorial Scholarship. Jordan River The Jordan River is a wild scenic natural river surrounded by the famous Jordan Valley; it is a great place for kayaking, canoeing, and rafting. The Jordan River was the first river to be designated in Michigan s Natural Rivers Program. The Jordan River is well known for its world-class brook trout fishing and for its scenic canoe trips. The headwaters are accessible by many foot and ATV trails. The river has a speed of 2-7 mph and a depth of 1-6 feet. The majority of the river is 2-3 feet. Lake Charlevoix Lake Charlevoix is the third largest lake in Michigan with a surface area of over 17,200 acres and 56 miles of shoreline. The maximum depth in the main basin is 122 feet and in the south arm, 58 feet. It s largest tributary is the Jordan River; and it is directly connected to Lake Michigan through the Pine River Channel. It was also voted America s second best lake! Whether you re into swimming, sailing or fishing, there is no shortage of activities on and around Lake Charlevoix to enjoy.
Where River Lake and Friendly People Meet Directions to East Jordan Tourist Park North Directions: Coming from Petoskey area. In Petoskey, take US 31 to US 131 and follow into Charlevoix. On the south part of Charlevoix, turn left onto M 66 and follow 13 miles to campground entrance on left side of the road. South Directions: Coming from I-75 South of Gaylord. Take I-75 north to Gaylord and exit on 282 turn left onto M-32 and follow to East Jordan (27 miles). At intersection of M-32 and C-48 turn left. Stay on M-32/M-48 through town until you get to the M-66 intersection. Turn right onto m-66 and campground entrance in ¼ miles North on right side of road.
