Tuesday, May 28 (Dinner) Our day begins with a visit to the Alaska Native Heritage Center to learn about the rich heritage of Alaska s 11 major cultural groups through engaging storytelling, authentic native songs and dance, artist demonstrations and more. Following our visit, there will be time to explore downtown Anchorage, Alaska s largest city, with its many shops, museums and restaurants. This afternoon we ll travel southward on the stunning Seward Highway, one of the most scenic highways in the U.S. and designated as a National Forest Scenic Byway. We ll follow the north shore of the Turnagain Arm into Girdwood where we will check into the fabulous Alyeska Resort for one night. This $200 million dollar chateau-style hotel, nestled at the base of Mount Alyeska, has been named the best hotel in Alaska. This evening we will take a tram ride up the mountain for dinner at the elegant Seven Glaciers Restaurant. Enjoy breathtaking views of the Turnagain Arm, the endless peaks of the Chugach Mountain range and seven hanging glaciers. Wednesday, May 29 (Breakfast, Lunch) After a delicious breakfast at the resort, we ll check out and make our way to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, a facility dedicated to the preservation of Alaska s wildlife. Here we will see bears, moose, elk, bison, caribou, deer and more! Then we will depart for the Kenai Riverside Lodge at Cooper Landing, where we will enjoy a traditional salmon bake followed by a scenic float trip along the aqua-tinted Kenai River. Watch for wildlife as our guide navigates us through the Chugach National Forest and the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. Our guide will share stories about the wildlife, the native inhabitants, the gold miners, the early settlers and the forces of nature that shaped the Kenai River Valley. This afternoon we will continue our southward journey along the picturesque Kenai Peninsula to Seward where we will check into the Windsong Lodge for a two-night stay. Nestled beneath spreading spruce, this resort offers views of the Chugach Mountains and the peaceful sound of the rushing Resurrection River, making it the perfect place to relax after a busy day. The evening is free to explore and relax. Thursday, May 30 (Breakfast, Lunch) Enjoy breakfast at the lodge before we depart for the Alaska Sea Life Center for a self-guided tour of this cold-water research facility. Later this morning we will our boat for an exciting cruise into Kenai Fjords National Park - home to abundant wildlife. Surrounded by steep mountain walls, the Kenai Fjords provide the perfect habitat for Steller sea lions, sea otters, orca (killer whales), mountain goats, bald eagles and a vast number of sea birds including the ever popular puffin. In addition to the resident pods of Orca, migrating whales are a common sight. Be on the watch for humpback and gray whales, as well as minke and fin whales. A delicious Alaska salmon and prime rib feast is included during our cruise.
