Since the economic reform of 1978, China has been going through many major changes. The changes taking place in China, especially the rapidly growing economy, are increasingly felt by the rest of the world. For geographers, it is an exciting time to study the changes in China and to gain a better understanding of this most populous country in the world. This Geography 491/591: Foreign Study Experiencing the Geography of China course is designed to offer an opportunity for students to learn the geography of China through first-hand experiences of observing and interacting with people, culture, society, and physical environment inside China. This study abroad course will learn various aspects of Geography of China through a series of guest lectures given by experts in China and a number of field trips to different sites in and around Beijing, Xian, and Shanghai.
