The new $24 million dollar sporting complex has commenced development at CQUniversity Mackay s Ooralea Campus in Mackay, Queensland, Australia. The precinct is due for completion in February 2019 and will provide the local community and region with specialised sport and recreational facilities. These state-of-the-art facilities will assist in hosting National, State and Local sporting competitions and will boost tourism, development and liveability in the region. The overall vision is to develop a multi-facility precinct which caters for the future growth of Mackay and meets the future planning needs for sport and recreation in the region. The Mackay Regional Sports Precinct is a joint initiative between the Australian Government, Mackay Regional Council and CQUniversity. The Mackay Regional Sports Precinct is located 7km from the Mackay CBD. IAAF Class 2 Athletics Facility consisting of: a synthetic surface running track consisting of an eight lane x 400 metre track, a nine lane 113 metre main sprint straight and an eight lane 103 metre secondary sprint straight; four long jump pits and two triple jump options; a steeplechase water jump; one discus circle; one discus/hammer circle; three shot put circles; two high jump fans; two javelin runways; one dual pole vaulting runway; a 330 square metre clubhouse with canteen, meeting rooms, amenities and storage; a rectangular multi-use playing field within the centre of the running track; spectator seating areas car parking facilities for 135 cars plus overflow parking; General lighting to 100 lux Aquatic Centre consisting of at least: one 50 metre, 10 lane outdoor heated competition pool; one 25 metre, 6 lane covered heated warm-up program pool; one 15 metre, 5 lane covered heated pool; pool entry, reception, canteen and office; control room for events, first aid room & multi-function area. Accessibility & Airport Mackay is one of Queensland s most accessible regional destinations by air, road or rail.
