South Luangwa National Park is a magnificent reserve that ranks among the finest in Africa and hosts a wide variety of mammals and over 400 species of birds within its 3500 square miles. Its boundary is the meandering Luangwa River whose network of scenic lagoons and superb riverine trees create a landscape of exceptional beauty that has made the Park famous. The unspoiled nature of Luangwa and its spectacular wildlife are idyllic for visitors - those seeking nature at its best. The Luangwa Valley has been called the Last Kingdom of the Elephants and indeed, one of the most memorable sights here is that of elephants gathered at dusk or dawn, tentatively testing the air before venturing across the river, sometimes in groups of over 100 strong.

Page 11 DAY 11 * TONGABEZI, ZAMBIAN SIDE OF VICTORIA FALLS This morning you will be transferred to Mfuwe Airport for scheduled air service to Livingstone Airport. (Flying time is about 2 hours via Lusaka.) Upon arrival in Livingstone you will be met and transferred by vehicle to Tongabezi Lodge. Victoria Falls is recognized as one of the seven natural wonders of the world, and has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The Falls are actually a series of seven waterfalls that occur where the powerful Zambezi River plunges down a series of basalt gorges in a breathtaking display. Mist from the waterfalls can be seen more than 10 miles away and the thundering roar can be heard long before the falls can be seen. The spray from the water is partly responsible for sustaining the "rainforest" opposite the falls. When the river is in flood, the falls are the largest curtain of falling water in the world, with between 5 million and 132 million gallons of water a minute crashing into the Batoka Gorge below.
Page 12 Tongabezi is idyllically situated on the banks of the Zambezi River 10 miles upstream from Victoria Falls. The accommodation and ambiance are excellent: spacious custom-made cottages with private en-suite facilities, and marvelous views up and downstream. Cottage at Tongabezi You will have the opportunity to enjoy the many activities offered: early morning and afternoon boat excursions to game view and bird watch from the Zambezi River; visits to the local villages and schools, or the Livingstone Museum. Of course, you will have a visit to the Falls and an opportunity to explore all along the Zambian side of this incomparable natural wonder. You may want to consider an optional lunch on Livingstone Island with a handful of other guests on the edge of the Falls (not included, and at additional cost). You will be at Tongabezi for two nights on a fully inclusive basis in a Luxury Cottage. http://www.tongabezi.com/
