Day 1 Arrive Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe Welcome to Zimbabwe! You are met upon arrival at the Victoria Falls airport, and escorted to the legendary Victoria Falls Hotel, known as the grand old lady of the falls. This luxury hotel is on a World Heritage site overlooking the thundering Victoria Falls, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoy time at leisure to wander the grounds of the lodge. Relax on the verandah and enjoy views of the safari lodge s own water hole, or perhaps take the shuttle to the waterhole for a closer look. You soon realize why this area was described by the local Kololo tribe as Mosioa-Tunya or the Smoke that Thunders. When the Zambezi River is at full strength, it plunges over a mile-wide, 320-foot-high cliff at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour. Later in the afternoon, embark on a helicopter flight for a bird s-eye view of Victoria Falls. With some of the largest falls in the world, columns of spray are seen from miles away as raging water plummets over the edge into the 325-foot deep gorge below. Hotel: Victoria Falls Safari Club, Victoria Falls Hotel or The Elephant Camp Day 2 Victoria Falls Bordering Zambia and Zimbabwe, Victoria Falls is a spectacular sight of awe-inspiring beauty and grandeur. Columns of spray can be seen from miles away as billions of cubic feet of water plummet over the edge. Encompassing a width of more than one mile, the water rushes into the 325-foot deep gorge below. The wide basalt cliff, over which the falls thunder, transforms the Zambezi from a placid river into a ferocious torrent cutting through a series of dramatic gorges. This morning you will be taken a private guided walking tour of Victoria Falls. You will see the Fall s five main cascades: Devil s Cataract, Main Falls, Horseshoe Falls, Rainbow Falls and Eastern Cataract Falls from multiple viewpoints, each offering its own distinctive display. Standing near the heart-pounding falls, being cooled by the spray that rises hundreds of feet into the air, is nothing short of awe inspiring. You will discover first-hand why this UNESCO World Heritage site is truly one of the Natural Wonders of the World. Late this afternoon, enjoy a relaxing sunset cruise on the Zambezi River. See the waters come alive as the sun starts to set. A wide variety of game animals, including hippos and elephants, as well as crocodiles and bird species congregate on the river bank for a refreshing drink from the River of Life before night sets in.
