Land at Briar Rose, Afforsk, Gamrie. Banff, AB45 3ES 1 INTRODUCTION The site of the proposed wind turbine (Ill 1, 2) is located at NJ 79316, 63219 in Banff and Buchan, Gamrie Parish. The Aberdeenshire Planning reference is APP/2010/2308 which is full planning permission for erection of 1 No. 15kw C&F Green Energy CF15 Wind Turbine on a 15m mast (Total Height 21m) The work was commissioned by Brian Paton, Briar Rose, Afforsk, Gamrie, Banff, AB45 3ES. The watching brief took place on 29th March 2011 and was carried out in the context of Scottish Planning Policy (SPP) Planning Advice Note 42 (PAN 42) and Scottish Historic Environment Policy (SHEP), which state that archaeological remains should be regarded as part of the environment to be protected and managed. Ill 1 Location plan (Contains Ordnance Survey data Crown copyright and database right 2010). Land at Briar Rose, Afforsk, Gamrie, Banff, AB45 3ES 3

Ill 2 Location plan of wind turbine base trench 2 ARCHAEOLOGICAL BACKGROUND 4 Immediately to the north of the current site is a small area of rig and furrow cultivation marks seen on an aerial photograph in a field under cereal crop (NJ76SE0034). A cist containing a skeleton accompanied by a (CB) beaker was found on Afforsk farm, near Gardenstown (NJ76SE 14), in the 1870s or 80s. The beaker (Clarke group N4) is now in the British Museum (BM.1911, 7-19, 4). (Walker 1967; Clarke 1970). Land at Briar Rose, Afforsk, Gamrie, Banff, AB45 3ES 4
