Good Neighbor Club Newsletter July, August, September 2018 Betty Marthaler, Good Neighbor Club Director Dear Good Neighbor Club Members, As you are reading the newsletter, my hope is that you are enjoying our Lovely Minnesota Weather and that you have taken the time to enjoy one or more of our activities that we have planned for you. During the past couple months, GNC Members had the opportunity to travel to Japan and enjoy their culture and view some of the most beautiful gardens we have ever seen. Our travels also included travel to Charleston, Jekyll Island, and Savannah, the city deemed too beautiful to burn by General Sherman during the Civil War. We have some new and interesting trips on the horizon, and you will find information about the travel shows in this newsletter. As always, my door is open, and I appreciate ideas from my customers as to where they wish to travel. Many of the trips that I plan have been requested by our GNC Members and for that I Thank You. Spicer Cinema 4 / Spicer, MN Wednesdays October 24th & November 21st Doors open at 12:00 p.m. ~ Movie Time: 12:30 p.m. Due to scheduling with the theatre and GNC travel schedule, no movie in September We invite our GNC Members to enjoy a current running movie while you also enjoy pop and popcorn. Please note, this event is for GNC Members only. If you have friends or family that wish to join us, please have them see me or a Personal Banker in either of our 3 locations, and we would be happy to discuss with them the various ways to join our Club. Tuesday, July 31st 9:30 AM in the Good Neighbor Club Room in Willmar: We will be traveling to ALASKA and enjoying the Kenai Peninsula Adventure followed by a 7 day cruise spending 2 nights in Anchorage, 1 night in Alyeska Resort in Girdwood, 2 nights in Seward. After these amazing 5 days, we will board the NCL s Jewel and cruise the Hubbard Glacier, cruise the inside passage and enjoy stops in Juneau, Skagway, and Ketchikan. I look forward to sharing this amazing Alaska Adventure with you! Beehive Old Log Theatre Wednesday, July 18th 1:30 Production Beehive is the ultimate celebration of 1960 s female empowerment. Featuring such timeless classics as My Boyfriend s Back, Be My Baby, Son of a Preacher Man, and Me and Bobby McGee. Beehive nostalgically recalls the days of miniskirts, transistor radios, and flower power. Told from the perspective of six women who came of age in this enigmatic decade, these ladies look back on a host of issues ranging from their first Beehive Dance to the challenges we faced as a nation. All accomplished by a vast array of the most celebrated and memorable songs of the year. This re-imagining of a powerful woman s musical will speak to the awakening of the female movement started in the 60 s and ignited thankfully today in 2018 realization. We will have the opportunity to cruise on beautiful Gull Lake and have a lunch served on board the Destiny Boat. Their vessel is a motor yacht that was built specifically for hosting events such as ours. After a 2 hour cruise, including lunch on the vessel, we will travel into Nisswa to do a little shopping or just enjoying a cup of coffee at one of their coffee shops. We will depart Nisswa around 3:30 to arrive back home before dinner. Two reserved tables will NOT require steps and 3 tables that will. For those of you who have gone with me in prior years, the tables are in the same general area. Prior to the race we will be greeted by a representative of Canterbury Park and we will be able to view some of the stables and learn more about how they prepare their horses for racing. Space is still available for this fun day, and I look forward to having you join us. Minnesota State Fair Thursday, August 23rd The Great Minnesota Get Together is the largest State Fair in the United States by average daily attendance. We will be attending the fair on Opening Day, which is not a discount day but after attending the first day last year, we felt it was the best day to go. I hope you will be able to join us! Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta Tour dates: October 5th-10th We will fly into Albuquerque and meet our Tour Manager who will be our guide for the next 6 days. We will view the mass ascension of these specially shaped balloons as they lift off at sunrise. During our time in Albuquerque, we will have a step on guide as we tour their city. Based on availability, there will be time for those who wish to travel in a hot air balloon while we are in Albuquerque. After our stay in Albuquerque, we will travel to Santa Fe where we will have a step on guide as we tour their historic city. We also have the opportunity to visit Pecos National History Park, which features the ruins of Pecos Pueblo and Mission. Ives Auditorium Bloomington Thursday, October 18th Lunch served at 11:30 Production at 1:00 Set in the 1920 s when radio ruled the airwaves and small stations thrived, Radio Gals is a charming musical about Hazel Hunt from Cedar Ridge, Arkansas, who broadcasts from her front parlor with her all-girl orchestra The Hazelnuts, as radio WGAL. What comes over the local airwaves is an array of hilarious toe-tapping songs. However, Hazel s broadcasts are not always so local due to her habit of impinging on other frequencies, like NBC s, attracting the attention of a federal radio inspector who s intent on shutting down WGAL. It turns out though, he has a fine tenor voice, plays a mean accordion, and quickly becomes enchanted by the Hazelnuts. From the creators of Pump Boys and Dinettes. Branson Country Christmas Wednesday, November 7th 1:30 Production Direct from Branson, the Ozark Jubilee features an all star cast of Branson s top entertainers. This year presenting, An all new Christmas Show, with new music, new jokes, but the same world class talent that you have come to expect! This year, the Ozark Jubilee will be honoring and paying tribute to our Veterans, and thanking them for their special service. The entire second half of our show is a total variety of Christmas music. From traditional standards you ll remember such as Silent Night, White Christmas, and many more, to some more contemporary Christmas selections. We will share with you the TRUE meaning of Christmas with music, comedy, and a message to provide an afternoon of entertainment that will touch your heart. Reservations are being taken. Departure and lunch plans will be in the Fall Newsletter. Palm Springs Winter Get Away January 21st February 2nd Dates have been set and details are being finalized. We will have the opportunity to stay at the Palm Mountain Resort. Activities will be planned with ample free time in Palm Springs. Full detail will be in our fall newsletter. Spain and the Canary Islands Cruise on the Norwegian Spirit February 12th 24th, 2019 We will fly to Barcelona and enjoy a panoramic tour showcasing the highlights of this beautiful city. We will spend the first night at the Hotel Regente, located on one of Barcelona s most popular avenues. Before boarding our ship, we will have an artistic tour that focuses on architect Antoni Gaudi. Our tour will be highlighted by an inside visit to Guadi s famous Sagrada Familia Church. After boarding our ship, we will sail to Morocco, The Canary Islands, Portugal, plus enjoy the cities of Malaga and Alicante, Spain and disembark in Barcelona for our return flight home.
