Chapter Directors Corner Hi kiddo s, Hard to believe it s that time again, but the monthly meeting will be this coming weekend on the 21 st. Of course there isn t any riding here, but it is a good time to do some maintenance on the bike and a lot of ride planning. Speaking of which, I think we do have some chapter rides in the planning stages. If you have any ideas please come to the meeting and tell us, we ll work something out. I suppose most of you know, Barbara and I went to Williamsburg for Wingless and found it cancelled after being there for a few hours. So we turned around and came home that night. Quite a long day. As a group we would like to extend our sympathy to Med Miller on the loss of his Mom, and if any of us can do anything to help you, please just ask. We are part of your family too. That s all for now, so meet us at Court St. Pizza at 2PM for a lunch and fellowship, and after that the meeting will be at St. John s Episcopal Church almost next door at 3PM. So come and bring some fun and ideas with you. John and Barbara Courtesy of the GWRRA National Rider Ed page The What If game can save your life. Rather than being surprised by left turning cars, skittish deer, or an old couch in the middle of the road, use your imagination to predict possible hazards and then take measures to minimize them. You see a car parked on the shoulder. What if it s not parked, and is actually about to do a U-turn? You pass an open gate in front of a farmhouse: What if all the cows got out? Rounding a corner in the mountains, you see little scraps of tire carcass on the road. What if there s a broken down semi in my lane around this corner? Riding along a road littered with dead deer: What if there are more waiting to cross? Play the What If game continuously as you ride, imagine what could happen and how you would react to it, visualize yourself avoiding the hazard, and keep the rubber side down. I remember reading about a motorcyclist who was passing under a railroad trestle bridge out west somewhere. A dog crossing the bridge fell through and struck the moving motorcycle. The rider died. Truth can be stranger than fiction. Use your imagination and play the What If game and outsmart all the hazards that life throws your way, even the unusual ones that Joe and Judy Pirillo Iowa Senior District Educators would NEVER happen to me. Next Chapter Gathering: February 21st
