GROTTE IS ZUDDAS Distance: 35 km Travel Time: 40 mins The Is Zuddas caves with its entrance on the side of Monte Meana, 236 m above the sea level, are situated 6 km away from Santadi. Inside the caves, along a designated walkway of approximately 500 meters, at a constant temperature of 16 C, it is possible to have a walk through wonderful concretions of incredible shape (stalactites and stalagmites). The Santadi s surroundings offer on the one hand stupendous fine white beaches, on the other splendid mountain chains. Thanks to its geographical position, Santadi has a mild climate, which allows production of some of the most famous and appreciated wines of Sardinia.
NORA Distance: 12 km Travel Time: 18 mins Recognized by historians as the oldest settlement in Sardinia, the Nora archaeological site overlooks the beautiful bay of Pula. Founded by the Phoenicians, Carthaginians and later conquered by the Roman Empire, Nora has always been a strategic commercial hub in the Mediterranean routes. Of this rich past the archaeological site track leads in the remains of the baths mosaics, the theatre, the Carthaginian dwellings and ancient paving of roads and Roman temples. BARUMINI Distance: 105 km Travel Time: 1 hour and 27 mins Barumini is a town in the inside area of Sardinia, which hosts the nuragic complex Su Nuraxi, belonging to a period of great expansion of proto-sardinian civilization which is a unique in the World and represents, with its grand architecture, the most important and best preserved nuragic settlement, recently recognized World heritage site by UNESCO.
MINES / PORTO FLAVIA Distance: 103 km Travel Time: 1 hour and 38 mins The landscape and culture of Sardinia have been deeply marked by the mining activity, particularly traceable in the ancient towns of Buggerru, Malfidano, Nebida and Masua. Here there are important underground realities and majestic examples of industrial archeology such as the Henry Gallery and Porto Flavia mine together with the Mine Machines Museum. Settlements for mining purposes in the area date back to the days of Carthaginians, and in this area it is possible to admire a wonderful example of Punic-Roman temple, the Temple of Antas dedicated to the god revered by the Sardinian people, the Sardus Pater.
