Dear Indianapolis Children s Choir Member, We share in your excitement that your trip to Austria and Germany is finally almost here. This tour booklet provides an outline of the highlights of your trip and a detailed itinerary with flight and hotel details for you and those at home who may want to contact you. It also includes information that will be useful while you are in Europe. All the information is subject to change due to any circumstances beyond our control. Name Badge Please wear this upon arrival in Vienna so that our staff can recognize you and whenever you are participating in a tour program. Baggage Tags Be sure that each of your bags, including your check-in bag, has a completed KIconcerts baggage tag affixed. Other things to note: Airline Tickets Your airline ticket is an electronic ticket. A copy is not necessary for airport check-in as long as you have your passport and flight information. Passport Your passport is vital. Take care of it at all times. Do not pack it in your check-in baggage and do not leave it lying around. Keep a copy of your passport separate from your passport. PERFORMANCES June 27, 2014 Festival Gala Concert conducted by Henry Leck at Votivkirche Vienna The Votivkirche is one of the most important neo-gothic religious architectural sites in the world. Located on Ringstraße in the Alsergrund district near the University of Vienna, the origin of the church derives from a knife-attack on Emperor Franz Joseph by an Hungarian nationalist. After the unsuccessful attack on February 18, 1853, Franz Joseph s brother Ferdinand Maximilian Joseph, the later emperor of Mexico, called upon the community for donations to a new church on the site of the attack. The church was to be a votive offering for the rescue of Franz Joseph and a monument of patriotism and of devotion of the people to the Imperial House. AUSTRIAN FESTIVAL CONCERT with HENRY LECK 4
PERFORMANCES June 29, 2014 Festival Gala Concert conducted by Henry Leck at Residenz Salzburg The Salzburg residence within the city is an early baroque building located next to the cathedral, and forms the western boundary of the great residence place. The Carabinieri and the Rittersaal, the two most important of the many state rooms were used by the archbishops as living quarters and as a place for political meetings The rooms were, and still are, used for concerts and formal functions; young Mozart also played regularly at the Salzburg Residenz.
