Mater Dei s Emerald Faith - Ireland Day 1: Tuesday, August 16, 2016: Departure Day. Depart Chicago s O Hare on our non-stop flight to Dublin. Relax onboard as you fly into Irish skies. (M) Day 2: Wednesday, August 17, 2016: Clonmacnoise & Knock. Arrive Dublin at 5:15AM. Depart Dublin and travel north west along some of Ireland s oldest inhabited areas. Travel west to the ruins of one of Ireland most prosperous monasteries of the 9th century, Clonmacnoise. It s strategic location by the River Shannon, helped it become a major centre of religion, learning, craftsmanship, and trade, visited by scholars from all over Europe. See the famous Celtic Crosses as you learn of its amazing history starting with its foundation by St. Ciaran in the year 544. Then continue to one of the highlights of our pilgrimage, the famous Marian Shrine of Knock where the Virgin Mary appeared to 15 people on August 21, 1879. Rosary is prayed at the site of the apparitions before Mass*. There will be time for Confessions and free time to explore the Shrine (including the gift shops). Check-in at your hotel and enjoy dinner with the group. Stay in Knock for 2 nights. Arrive at our hotel in Knock and after check-in for our 2-night stay. Relax with a welcome dinner. (D) Day 3: Thursday, August 18, 2016: Sligo, Tobernalt + Knock. After your full Irish breakfast, depart this morning for County Sligo. Visit Tobernalt to celebrate Mass* at the famous Mass Rock, where Priests celebrated Mass secretly during the times of the persecutions. Local tradition tells us that St. Patrick himself was here, and left a hand print on the old altar. This place is of great importance for the defense of the freedom to worship and a commemoration for all those who persevere in practicing their Faith in times of persecution, even if it means endangering their lives. Afterwards, return to the Marian Shrine of Knock, for more time to pray at the site of the apparitions, Way of the Cross, Confession and more opportunities to explore the Shrine, including it s gift shops. Return to our hotel for dinner. (B, D) Meals Legend: M = Airplane Meals B = Breakfast D = Dinner Day 4: Friday, August 19, 2016: Westport, Croagh Patrick, Kylemore Abbey, Connemara Coast. Start the day traveling west to County Mayo on a panoramic drive to see Westport, the largest emigration port city on the northern half of Ireland. After Mass, travel to Croagh Patrick, where St. Patrick stayed for 40 days of penance claiming for Christianity the tall mountain once dedicated to a pagan god. See beautiful views of the Clew Bay and the Atlantic. After a symbolic climb (only a partial climb) praying the rosary, travel through the northern part of the Connemara National Park to see Kylemore Abbey, a magnificent historic mansion nestled in the woods, now belonging to the Benedictine nuns. Mass* has been requested at the chapel in the forest. From there, continue through the Connemara region and admire the sweeping views of boglands and misty mountains. As you drive along you will see many sheep that graze freely and also tracts of bogland where some people hand-cut peat for home heating. Drive by Connemara s most beautiful but saddest road, the Famine Way where we stop to pray by the Monument to the Famine and learn about one of the greatest suffering times of the Irish people. End your day at your hotel in the beautiful Connemara Coast! Enjoy a most memorable sunset surrounded by the beauty of the Connemara National Park. Dinner with the group tonight. (B, D) * Masses are subject to local ecclesiastical Approval. www.materdeitours.com Toll Free: 800 515-2632

Mater Dei s Emerald Faith - Ireland Day 5: Saturday, August 20, 2016: Moycullen, Cong, Galway City. After Mass at Galway s Cathedral of Our Lady Assumed to Heaven and St. Nicholas, depart for Moycullen to visit the Connemara Marble Factory. Quarried in Connemara, the soft green shades of the marble echoes the colors of the countryside from which it is cut. See how it is made into many decorative items. Then continue to Cong, a small village made famous for being the place where the famous movie The Quiet Man (Maureen O Hara and John Wayne) was filmed. Visit the ruins of Cong Abbey by the river. Mass* celebrated at St. Mary of the Rosary in Cong. After your visit to Cong, continue to one of Ireland s most charming cities! Galway City has a unique festive atmosphere with lots of culture and heritage, overlooking Galway Bay. Explore old Galway where the balance of the day is at leisure for independent activities and dining. Eyre Square forms the hub of the city and contains the John F. Kennedy Memorial Park, where you can sit and people-watch. Many of the narrow streets, such as Shop Street, are pedestrianized and contain shops, pubs and teashops. Lynch s Castle dates from 1320, but is now a bank where portions of the medieval walls are still visible along Eyre Square. Enjoy a stroll along the rushing River Corrib, which links lake Corrib to Galway Bay. In the evening, you have an abundance of eating and entertainment options. Galway is famous for live folk music which streams out of every pub. (B) Day 6: Sunday, August 21, 2016: County Clare & County Kerry. After Mass* at the Galway Cathedral drive around Galway Bay and pass through the Burren Country, an area of rocky limestone hills where a number of unique flowers thrive. This region also contains many dolmens, prehistoric monuments formed by large limestone slabs. Drive along the coastline of County Clare to view the Cliffs of Moher, one of the country s most magnificent rock formations that rise to heights of almost 700 feet above the churning Atlantic swells. Afterwards cross the Shannon Estuary in a ferry and arrive in Tarbert. Continue the drive south until our arrival in Killarney, one of the most lively towns in County Kerry. After checking into your hotel. This evening, join your fellow travelers for dinner. (B, D) Meals Legend: M = Airplane Meals B = Breakfast D = Dinner Day 7: Monday, August 22, 2016: Ring of Kerry, Killarney. Today admire breathtaking vistas of mountains, cliffs and beaches on Ireland s most popular drive, The Ring of Kerry. See a variety of natural beauty as you drive 100 miles around this scenic route. A number of stops will allow you to admire the spectacular scenery. Head back to Killarney through Moll s Gap with stunning views of the Lakes of Killarney. Then travel to Killarney, widely celebrated for its setting overlooking lakes and mountains. Celebrate Mass* at St. Mary s in Killarney, considered to be one of the most beautiful gothic revival cathedrals in Europe. Return to our hotel. Killarney is all yours tonight (evening on your own). (B) Day 8: Tuesday, August 23, 2016: Tipperary & Dublin. Say good-bye to County Kerry this morning and travel to County to County Tipperary to view the impressive Rock of Cashel Castle, seat of the High Kings of Ireland. After a memorable tour of the complex we visit the Franciscan Friary to attend Mass* at St. John the Baptist Church in Cashel. Then on to Dublin, while you enjoy the farming vistas of Tipperary. Arrive in Dublin City for dinner and 2-night stay. (B,D) Day 9: Wednesday, August 24, 2016: Drogheda, Hill of Slane, Dublin. Depart Dublin and travel north west along some of Ireland s oldest inhabited areas. Arrive at St. Peter s Church in Drogheda where the relics of St. Oliver Plunkett can be found. After praying a Chaplet of Divine Mercy, we continue north to Monasterboice, a monastery founded by St. Buithe who died in 521. The name Monasterboice is a part-anglicization of the Irish name Mainistir Bhuithe meaning "monastery of Buithe". In Monasterboice you will find the finest Celtic Cross in Ireland. Our last stop on our morning excursion is one of the most historic sites of Ireland s Catholic Faith, the Hill of Slane. This is the place where tradition tells us that St. Patrick, after having lit a fire during the pagan night of darkness (same night as the Easter Vigil), at great risk, evangelized the natives and their king regarding the Blessed Trinity, using a simple shamrock as the means for their conversion. After this visit, enjoy the scenic drive back to Dublin City where we visit Trinity College to view one of the world s most famous copies of the Holy Scriptures known as the Book of Kells (and possibly the Book of Armagh containing the confessions of St. Patrick). After a panoramic tour of Dublin, end our pilgrimage with a Farewell Mass* at White Friars Church, where you ll be able to pray before the relics of St. Valentine. Then enjoy a festive farewell dinner with all your fellow pilgrims! Time for packing. (B, D). Day 10: Thursday, August 25, 2016: Return to USA. Return to the US on your non-stop flight from Dublin to Chicago. (B, M) Welcome Home! * Masses are subject to local ecclesiastical Approval. www.materdeitours.com Toll Free: 800 515-2632
