Map and directions Cedar Court Hotel, Wakefield, is situated adjacent to Junction 39 of the M1 some 3 miles to the south west of Wakefield. There are two railway stations in Wakefield, Wakefield Westgate and Wakefield Kirkgate. Wakefield Westgate is on the East Coast main line from London to Leeds. Bus Station WAKEFIELD Details of how to get to Cedar Court Hotel are set out below for easy reference. By Road The SatNav postcode is WF4 3QZ. Note: There are several Cedar Court Hotels in West and North Yorkshire. From the North/South Northbound on the M1: exit junction 39 and at the roundabout take the first exit A636 Denby Dale Road. After 200 yards turn left into Cedar Court. Southbound on the M1: exit junction 39 and at the roundabout take the third exit A636 Denby Dale Road. After 200 yards turn left into Cedar Court. From the East/West From junction 29 of the M62 take the M1 south and exit at junction 39. At the roundabout take the third exit A636 Denby Dale Road. After 200 yards turn left into Cedar Court. 2
Car Parking There are plenty of parking spaces at the Cedar Court Hotel and car parking is complimentary. Nearest Train Station The nearest stations to the hotel are Wakefield Westgate (4 miles) and Wakefield Kirkgate (3 miles). Wakefield Westgate is on the East Coast main line from London to Leeds. Wakefield Kirkgate serves Northern Rail and Grand Central trains and is close to the West Yorkshire History Centre. Wakefield Westgate also serves direct trains from the South West. If you are travelling by train and would like to be picked up at the station please email < conference-booking@one-name.org > as soon as possible with your arrival (and departure) time and station, the station you have travelled from (or changed trains at) and your contact mobile number so that we can co-ordinate station pick-ups. For those arriving early or late or on Thursday there is a taxi service at Wakefield Westgate. By Bus From Wakefield bus station there are buses along Denby Dale Road services 435 and 436. < https://www.wymetro.com/buses/timetables/435 > Arrivals We will have a registration desk in the Reception area opposite the main hotel reception desk which will be staffed from 2.00pm on Friday afternoon, from 8.30am to 8.50am before the AGM on Saturday and from 9.00am to 9.20am on Sunday morning; you will receive a welcome pack including a programme and conference brochure. After completing your registration please go to the hotel reception to check-in to your room. If you want to charge any additional purchases to your room you will need to provide the hotel with a debit/credit card. Please remember to settle your bill when you check out. Volunteers will be on hand to meet and greet first timers at a Guild Conference. Hotel rooms will be available from 2.00pm on the day of arrival and should be vacated by 11.00am on the day of departure. Facilities are available for storing luggage in a locked room. Please ask at the Hotel Reception. Hotel Facilities There is a health club with heated indoor swimming pool, hot spa bath, Turkish steam room and sauna available to use during the conference. There is complimentary wi-fi throughout the hotel. Programme The AGM will commence at 9.00am on Saturday morning in the Cedar Suite, followed by the conference at 11.00am, and the conference at 9.30am on Sunday morning. Friday Events at Cedar Court For those arriving on Friday afternoon we have arranged two talks which will take place in the Oak/Hawthorne Suite on the second floor. 3.00pm - Mining Disasters: Rescue and Recovery - Anne Bradley - National Coal Mining Museum 4.00pm - Introduction to the Members Websites WIKI - Jim Benedict Help Clinic There will be an opportunity for informal face to face discussions with fellow Guild members in the Pine Room on the second floor from 5.00pm to 6.00pm on the Friday afternoon. Dinner on Friday 23 March Dinner on Friday evening will be an informal two-course hot and cold buffet in the Cedar Suite with one sitting from 6.00pm. There will be a cash bar in the room. Quiz At 8.00pm Alan Moorhouse will be hosting the annual conference quiz in the Cedar Suite. Please come along and demonstrate your expertise and knowledge. Quiz teams will be for up to a maximum of six people so plan to make up a team of six or come along and join 5 others to create one. Themed Prizes will be awarded to the best teams. The Banquet dinner on Saturday evening The dinner on Saturday evening will be held in the Cedar Suite; delegates are invited to a drinks reception hosted by the President and Committee in the Cedar Suite from 7.00pm, with dinner served at 7.30pm. The bar will remain open through and after dinner until late. Please sign up to join a table of ten for the dinner: table seating plan pro-formas will be available on the Cedar Suite bar after the Friday evening buffet. There will one bottle each of red and white wine placed on each table. If you wish to pre-order additional wine or other drinks for your table please purchase these from the bar. Dress code for the Saturday evening dinner is smart casual therefore suggest perhaps not jeans and a sweatshirt! 4
Ecumenical Service There will be an ecumenical service on Sunday morning, led by the Janet Few and Chris Braund, from 8.45am to 9.15am in the Oak/Hawthorne Suite on the second floor. Bookstalls & Poster Displays To make the Conference weekend more interactive we encourage delegates to bring along details of their studies for display and sharing. Poster boards will be available for your use. The Guild also has its own bookstall at the conference alongside other displays of interest; please email < conference-booking@one-name.org > if you would like a poster board and/or table. These and the following tables can be found in the Cedar Suite: Guild Bookstall the latest version of Surname Atlas (version 2.20) will be available The Members Website project table BMD Vault table scan your own certificates for the Guild s BMD Vault project DNA kits Scanning your own certificates for the BMD Vault There will be an opportunity for you all to bring your own certificates to the Conference to be scanned for the BMD project so that the BMD Vault volunteers can transcribe the data for Guild members to subsequently search. You will alternatively be able to scan your certificates yourselves using the Guild scanner which will be located in the Cedar Suite. Don t forget to bring a flash drive so that you can copy your scanned documents to take away with you. DNA test kits DNA test kits and Family Finder (Autosomal) kits from FamilyTreeDNA will be available to order (on Friday evening and Saturday only) from Tracy Care at the special Guild member discounted price of 95.00 for Y-DNA 37 markers and 58.00 for Family Finder kits. Additional Nights There is a special rate of 55.00 per room (room only) or 65.00 single/ 75.00 twin or double (B+B) for conference delegates staying on the Thursday and/or Sunday night - please book this direct with the hotel (01924 276310), ensuring you state that you are with the Guild conference, and let me know that you have booked so I can add a comment to the rooming list we send the hotel in order to try and ensure you don't have to move rooms mid-stay.
