If you are registering for Week #3, your weekly rate will be pro-rated. STAFFING Camp Zehnder is under the direction of our year-round professional directors. Staff-tochild ratios are in accordance with national standards. We screen and select counselors and specialists from local high schools and colleges, as well as certified teachers in our community, resulting in a diverse group of highly qualified individuals. Members of the aquatic staff hold certifications in first aid, CPR, lifeguarding and swim instruction. All staff complete a background check and attend extensive training prior to the start of camp. MEDICAL SUPERVISION A qualified health director is on duty from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and works closely with the staff, campers and families to ensure the well-being of every child. Camp Zehnder meets the New Jersey Health Department Standards and National YMCA Camping Guidelines. TRANSPORTATION* Transportation to and from camp is offered for the full-day camper, and is available for an additional fee of $50 per camper per week. SUMMER CAMP GROUPS Campers rotate through a variety of activities including traditional favorites like nature hikes, boating, fishing, and team-building games. Camp Zehnder offers a progressive programming format to provide age appropriate activities for each child. Campers are grouped based on the last grade completed and new activities are added each year as they grow with camp. POW-WOWS (Half-Day 9 a.m.-1 p.m.) AGES 3-5 (Preschool) Great introduction to day camp. A half-day of fun, making new friends, swim lessons, circle time and exploring the outdoors. Children must be fully and independently toilet trained. POW-WOWS (Full-day) AGES 3-5 (Preschool) Enjoy a full day of POW-WOW fun! Children must be fully and independently toilet trained. An afternoon snack will be provided. ONEIDA AGES 6 & 7 (Grades K & 1 completed) New activities include the low ropes challenge course and a daily visit to the Trading Post. SENECA AGES 8 & 9 (Grades 2 & 3 completed) At this level, campers also participate in archery, climbing wall and zip line. MOHAWK AGE 10 (Grade 4 completed) Have even more fun with trail biking, pottery and camp community service projects. CAYUGA AGE 11 (Grade 5 completed) Gain new responsibility to create your own elective schedule. CHEROKEE AGE 12 (Grade 6 completed) Five-day camp includes travel off-site two days per week to local beaches, mini golf courses, arcades, and more. TEEN TRAVELERS AGES 13-15 (Grades 7-9 completed) Five-day camp includes three off-site trips to locations like river tubing, laser tag, local beaches and more. As part of our Social Responsibility focus, Teen Travelers spend one half-day each week with a community service project ( Give Back Days ) at places like Ronald McDonald House, local food banks and other organizations in need of help. All participants receive a community service letter from the Y listing their hours and projects. NOTE: All trips are subject to change due to enrollment or weather conditions. ROLE MODEL IN TRAINING (RMIT) PROGRAM AGE 14-15 (Grade 9 completed) The RMIT program is designed to provide leadership training for campers age 14-15 who have completed grade 9, and have a desire to work with children. This weekly program assists teens in learning and developing the necessary skills to work with children as a camp counselor. While working under the guidance of our camp role models, your teen will develop confidence, knowledge and experience in leadership skills needed to apply for a Role Model position at age 16. Please call the office or go to our website for an RMIT application. Campers will be interviewed for entry to this program. CULTIVATE SKILLS AT SPECIALTY CAMPS Weekly Camps 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. FIZZ POP SCIENCE AGES 9-12 July 23-27 Wk 6 $180 Experiment with different objects of flight (airplanes, kites, rockets), become a mad scientist in the chemistry lab, explore magnets, electricity, and other twists of physics. Campers learn to express themselves through various mixed media including painting, ceramics, photography, print-making, and sculpture. SLIMEY SCIENCE AGES 6-9 Aug 13-17 Wk 9 $180 Explore new worlds both large and small in our Slimey Science camp. Focus on plant, insect, and animal life, and our responsibility for the environment.
