Situation and Amenities The Hall is situated within the delightful village of Wedmore in a very pretty area of Somerset between the Quantock Hills and the Mendip Hills. Wedmore is one of Somerset s most popular and thriving villages. It has a popular and vibrant community, offering a wide range of high quality and well regarded bistro pubs including The Swan and The George Inn. Wedmore also offers a number of restaurants, boutique shops, a post office, butcher, greengrocer, fishmonger and St Mary s Church to name a few. The village of Wedmore is said by many to be the most complete Saxon town still surviving. It saw the signing of the Peace of Wedmore in 901 between Alfred the Great and the Danish leader Guthrum, with his subsequent baptism at Winchester Cathedral. The Cathedral City of Wells is approximately 8 miles away and provides a comprehensive range of business, recreational and shopping facilities. Further facilities are available in Bath and Bristol. There is a mainline railway station at Castle Cary which is about 20 miles to the east with a regular service to London Paddington taking from 90 minutes. Road communications are also good, with the A38 to the north and connection to the M5 motorway at Junction 22, giving access to Exeter and the West Country as well as Bristol, the Midlands and the North. Bristol Airport is 14 miles away to the north. Sporting facilities in the area include golf at Wells, Maesbury Castle, Castle Cary and other local courses and National Hunt racing is at Taunton, Wincanton and Bath. The property lies within the Mendip Hunt country. The Mendip Hills area is highly regarded for its walking, caving, rock climbing and bridleways, affording excellent riding out opportunities. Shooting and fishing are also available locally. There are several exceptional schools in the area including Sidcot, Millfield in Street, Downside at Stratton-on-the-Fosse, the Taunton schools, Wells Cathedral School plus a number of highly regarded schools in Bath in Bristol. The Hall The Hall is a fine example of a newly refurbished Grade II Listed Georgian house with rendered elevations and stone quoins under a mainly slate roof. Having acquired the property in 2007, the current owners have undertaken a complete renovation of the whole house using a specialist heritage conservation contractor, incorporating high quality materials and with consideration given to modern family living. The rear Victorian extension was totally re-built and the whole house was re-plumbed, re-wired and rerendered. The chimneys were re-built in Bath stone. Importantly, the provenance of the house is largely intact with a fine pedimented entrance, classical proportions, high ceilings, sash windows, flagstone and hardwood floors combining beautifully with state of the art technology and systems. The house has a wireless Nuvo sound system and heating controls with under floor heating in most rooms and a new pressurised water system ensuring that all bathrooms can be in use at the same time. Coach House The stone and tile built coach house is set in the North West corner of the property with access past the main house via a spur off the main entrance drive.
