Kerala Fest: Performances Dr K J Yesudas is an Indian classical musician and a playback singer. He has won the National Award for the best male playback singer seven times, the most by any singer He has recorded more than 40,000 songs and he has been singing for most Indian languages and is fondly called the 'Gana Gandharvan'
Kerala Fest: Performances Television and regional TV channels have helped the musicians and mimicry artists to reach out to a wider audience. Mimicry as an art form has evolved a lot over time. The mimicry artists used to imitate celebrities from politics and cinema but recently have turned to criticize/comment on social and political issues and figures. One such TV show is Cinemala which is being broadcast on Asianet. This satirical show digs on almost all issues. Kerala Fest would like to specifically feature Cinemala in honour of Kerala s mimicry artists for creatively responding to the social and political issues without taking any particular political side and for raising public awareness on these issues.
Kerala Fest: Performances Vineeth is a South Indian film actor and classical dancer who has acted in several well received films in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada language. He is the nephew of the famous Travancore sisters. He caught the public eye by winning several prizes in the Bharatanatyam dance form while studying in school including winning the first prize at the Kerala State Youth festival for four years in a row and winning the top prize of 'Kalaprathibha'. He is a student of Padma Bhushan Padma Subramanyam. In spite of his success in films, he still considers dance as his first love and is undergoing advanced training in Bharatanatyam and participates in several dance programmes all over the world.
Kerala Fest: Performances Lakshmi Gopalaswami is an excellent Bharathanatyam dancer and started performing at the age of 12. At a young age she won a renowned Madras Music Academy s MGR Award. She was the first person from Karnataka to receive that award. Dr. Uma Gopalaswamy is her mother who has a PhD in Carnatic music. Lakshmi holds a Master s Degree in Women s Studies. Lakshmi Gopalaswami is the actress who won the Kerala State Film Award as a Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the Malayalam film Arayannangalude Veedu and the second best actress for her performances in Thaniye directed by debutant film director Babu Thiruvalla and Paradesi directed by P. T. Kunju Mohammed and for the same films, she also received the "Atlas Film Critics Award" for the best woman actor.
