The intent of the workshop is to provide an opportunity for Tsawwassen First Nation representatives to introduce the proposed Great Blue Heron Way multi-use trail project to Delta Council. The visit was requested by Carol Vignale, Delta Resident/ Co-ordinator GBHW, on behalf of Elder Ruth and attending with her.., Mayor Jackson warmly welcomed Elder Ruth and Carol, offering refreshments. Elder Ruth presented Mayor Jackson with a Great Blue Heron Way Thank Vou card and copy of Salish Sea Sentinel, The Voice Of The Naut'sa Mawt Tribal Council, May 2014 Edition pertaining to an article/ interview with Elder Ruth, " The Way fot the Great Blue Heron". 411 Elder Ruth explained that her visit today was prompted by a recent speech by the Mayor to Delta Chamber of Commerce about wanting an 'environmental greenway' under the new bridge replacement for George Massey Tunnel as reported in the Delta Optimist, March 19, 2014. Elder Ruth said that in this visit she is bringing The Great Blue Heron Way gift as the Greenway ready for the Mayor and Delta. *The Great Blue Heron Way original logo art work shown to Mayor Jackson, was designed and produced by Tsawwassen First Nation artist, Karl Morgan by request of Elder Ruth, 2011. To thank Mayor Jackson for her knowledge, wisdom and patience to wait for the Great Blue Heron Way to come/ to reach Delta as an approved legacy trail project of Tsawwassen First Nation by Tsawwassen First Nation Executive Council, Feb. 12, 2014. To update Mayor Jackson on the progress of the Great Blue Heron Way together with the Trans Canada Trail is now ready to engage with neighbours as participants. Delta is the first neighbour to be officially approached at this meeting. The Great Blue Heron Way does not want to go around Delta. The Vision is for Delta to be a Great Blue Heron Way Host with Tsawwassen First Nation. 3. Overview of Great Blue Heron Way: a Regional Greenway Trail from Tsawwassen Ferry East to Semiamhoo, North to Stanley Park to North Shore to link with Experience the Fraser Trail and Metro Vancouver Greenway System, West to Gulf Islands and Vancouver Island to link Lochside and Galloping Goose Trails. 4. To share the Vision and Story of the Great Blue Heron Way: as a legacy trail project to host all peoples, at the Gateway of the Salish Sea and the Fraser River (& as a contribution to Delta and its neighbours as a Sustainable Greenway initiative for Health and well-being of the people and the environment. The GBHW started at Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal so the Great Blue Heron Way could meet the Vancouver Island, Galloping Goose Trail. 5. To explore an offer to include the Trans Canada Trail in the Great Blue Heron Way as a proposed component of a regional walking and cycling Trans Canada Trail Network to be celebrated during Canada 150 th Anniversary 2017 in addition to the 25th anniversary of the Trans Canada Trail. 6. To respectfully request a presentation of the GBHW to Delta Council in the near future."
