City transport City transport was used by more than 271.6 million passengers in May, 1.3% more than in the same month of 2017. Subway transport registered an increase of 3.6%. The greatest increase was recorded in Palma (21.4%) and the only decrease was registered in Sevilla (-17.4%). City transport by bus decreased by 0.3% in May, as compared with the same month of the previous year. The number of passengers of bus transport registered the greatest increases in Castilla La Mancha (4.5%), Canarias (3.9%) and Región de Murcia (3.1%). Inter-city transport More than 120.6 million passengers used inter-city transport in May, representing a 2.5% increase as compared with the same month of 2017. By type of transport, air transport increased by 12.1%, rail transport by 4.7%, maritime transport by 2.8%, and bus transport by 0.1%. Local distance passengers decreased by 0.2% for bus transport and increased by 4.9% for rail transport. Regional distance passengers increased by 1.7% for bus transport and 3.2% for rail transport. Finally, long distance passengers decreased by 7.6% for bus transport and increased by 3.0% for rail transport. Within the latter, AVE (high speed railway) increased by 1.0%. The number of special transport passengers increased 2.7%, reaching more than 34.9 million users. Within this, school transport increased by 1.3%, and work transport did so by 8.2%. In turn, unscheduled transport increased 3.8%, as compared with the same month of 2017, reaching more than 21.8 million passengers.
