Zoo Camp Parent Packet Thank You for choosing the Chattanooga Zoo for your camper s fall adventure! This parent packet is designed to answer any questions you may have as a parent and help create the best camp experience for your camper. This packet consists of basic camp information and contact numbers, a Frequently Asked Questions page, and an overview of our behavior policy and action plan. By sending your child to camp, you are agreeing to all policies stated in this document. If you have any questions, please feel free to email or call one of the Zoo Camp Contacts listed below. Zoo Camp Contacts: Chelsea Dale: Paige Odom: cciszewski@chattzoo.org podom@chattzoo.org 423-697-1322 ext. 5782 423-697-1322 ext. 5788 Check In/Pick-Up Process: Pick Up Cards: At check-in you will be given a pick-up card with your camper s name on it. This card will be needed to quickly check your camper out at the end of the day! Anyone without this card will need to show a photo ID and be named on the pick-up list you gave us during registration. If they are NOT listed, we will not release your camper to them until we confirm with you. This procedure is in place for your camper s safety. Please ensure all pick-up information is correct and update it as needed at check-in. Check In: Begins at 8:45am and ends at 9:15am Parents must park and accompany their child to the Check-In location Signs will be placed to direct you to the gate where you may walk your child in. Identify the table for your camper s age group. This is where you will check in and verify all information. Be sure to check your camper s authorized pick-ups to see if any last minute changes need to be made. If you are going to be late checking in, please call and inform Paige or Chelsea so that we can be prepared for your arrival.

Pick-up: 3:00-3:30pm Pick-up will begin at 3:00pm when all campers have arrived at the pick-up gate (the same gate as check-in). You will be asked to show your pick-up card and to sign your camper out. Anyone who does not have a pick up card must show ID. Aftercare is will begin at 3:30pm you may add aftercare at any time for your camper. During this Week of Camp: A general activity schedule will be sent out at least a week before camp, and a schedule will be available to view at check- in. We will go on a Field Trip during every week of camp. We will be using John Champagne Bus Services as transportation. A snack will be offered each day; lunch is not provided. We will accommodate as best as possible for food allergies, but will not be able to accommodate for preference. If your child is a picky eater, or you are concerned about food intolerances, you are welcome to pack a snack for your camper! Please do not pack any nut products. We ask that parents do not accompany their child during camp. Packing for Zoo Camp: Please keep in mind we will be outside throughout the day and dress your camper accordingly. One Zoo Camp shirt and Zoo Bag is included with your registration. Additional shirts can be purchased for $10 a shirt at any time. We accept cash, check, and cards. A reusable water bottle will be available to be purchased for $2 if your camper needs one. Campers must wear closed toed shoes at all times. Sunscreen! Counselors will apply sunscreen as needed if it is provided. We do have a supply of extra sunscreen if it is forgotten. Bug spray is recommended. Please remember to pack a lunch for your campers as well as bring a refillable water bottle. We will provide water bottle fill stations for the campers! Zoo Camp Rules:

Throughout the week campers will be exposed to new opportunities that challenge them and help them grow physically, mentally, and emotionally. These experiences can be an adjustment and positive encouragement from all campers as well as all parents is essential to your child s success. We have the following Zoo Rules to offer guidelines for expected behavior that will help ensure each camper has a safe and enjoyable camp experience! At Zoo Camp We: 1. ARE RESPECTFUL Treat others like you would like to be treated. We are respectful to our fellow campers, counselors, and animals that live at the Zoo. 2. LISTEN to our counselors and fellow campers 3. KEEP OUR HANDS TO OURSELVES Hands are for helping each other not hurting. We will never use our hands, feet or other objects to hurt another living thing. 4. STICK TOGETHER whether out on excursions or in the Zoo, always stick together! 5. WALK. When we run, we can lose our group, trip and fall, hurt ourselves or hurt others. Behavior Action Plan Zoo Camp Counselors are experienced in working with children, and are trained in handling all types of behavior. However, we do recognize that children don t always follow the rules, and in these cases, we have a specific behavior action plan that our counselors will follow. 1. Counselors will first give a warning and reminder of the rules. They will suggest an alternate behavior that is acceptable. 2. Counselors will require the camper to take a break or sit out from an activity. 3. Counselors will call a parent or guardian to discuss the behavior with their camper. Depending on the severity of the behavior, steps may be skipped at a counselor s discretion. If a camper s behavior is endangering the safety of other campers and counselors or is continually disrupting camp activities, a camper may be sent home/and or asked not to return to camp. Refunds will not be issued for missed camp in these cases. If there is an incident during camp involving your camper you will receive a camper report card at the end of the day. This will describe any challenges we had during the day, as well as any subsequent measures we took.

In Case of Emergency: All of our counselors are First Aid certified and will handle minor injuries during camp. You will be notified at the end of the day of any minor scrapes or bruises. If a serious injury occurs, we will first notify the registered parent/guardian. If the parent/guardian cannot be reached, we will then go through the authorized pick-up list. If you would like to add an additional emergency contact not on the list, please email cciszewski@chattzoo.org or podom@chattzoo.org. You may also add an emergency contact at check in. We can t wait for our adventure! We are so excited to share this summer with your camper. By sending your camper to camp you agree to all information provided in this packet. If you have any questions regarding this packet, please contact either Chelsea or Paige. If your camper LOVED Zoo Camp and you wish to register for more dates, registration closes online a week before a camp is scheduled to begin.
