Responsibilities Signing In and Sign Out Located at Admin in the Main Building. You must sign in, and out to get Service Hour Credits Dressing Appropriately You must ware your Youth Volunteer tee Shirt, Name Tag, Close toe shoes and hat. Special Activities All registered Boy Scouts will do a merit badge during lunch or be placed on a special project. ARCHERY AND BB S WILL BE CLOSED DURING LUNCH. Gaga Ball will open 20 min into the lunch period. You may NOT play Gaga Ball until you have eaten. Monday -Friday - Scavenger Hunts, Opening Ceremonies, Lunchtime activities Tuesday - Den Picture taken with all boys and all Den Chief and Adult Volunteers Sign up for Webelos Night by 9:00 Am (Webelos II Only) Sign up for Family Campfire and Cookout by 9:00 AM Wednesday Webelos II Night and Activities (Campers Only) Thursday National Pike Pinewood Derby Family Campfire (Ticket Needed) Cub Scout Family Campfire, Open to all Ranks Boys/Children must be accompanied by Parent/Guardian during Cookout and Campfire Friday - Visitors Day May 2017 2017 Cub Scout Day Camp Orientation 8
Merit Badges & Special Projects Lunch time Merit Badges TBD prior to camp Scouts not registered for a merit badge will be assigned to a special project Lunch will be eaten at merit badge location or special project Be on time!! Gaga Bal will not be open until 20 min after the lunch session starts. You MUST eat lunch before going to Gaga Ball. Gaga Ball will NOT be open Tuesday and Thursday during lunch time specials. Youth Volunteer Arrival Signing In and Out Drop off in the drop off loop (grassy field, see map) Come directly to the Main Building Admin Area Sign in daily no later than 7:40 AM Report to the Youth Volunteer area in Main Building Sign in so we can confirm you are at Camp Report to your Station, Den or Staff location Sign out Daily after Camp Closing Ceremony May 2017 2017 Cub Scout Day Camp Orientation 10
Opening/Closing Ceremonies Be in place 10 minutes before ceremony begins Please do not come once the ceremony begins! Opening Ceremonies: Held on the Flag Grounds at 8:00 AM (except on Monday) Den Chiefs be with Den Station Volunteers participate along fence Staff Volunteers be by stage Closing Ceremonies: Be on the Flag Grounds at 3:50PM along fence Lower the flag at 4:15 PM Camp dismissed from Main Hall at 4:15-4:30 PM Sign-out May 2017 2017 Cub Scout Day Camp Orientation 11
What Youth Volunteers Should Wear SUNSCREEN! Apply at home, before camp (SPF 30) Hat Name Tag (supplied by camp) Leave at Admin camp when you sign out. Day Camp Youth Volunteer T-shirt Shorts or swim trunks for Den Chiefs Old Closed Toe Shoes No sandals, Swim Shoes or closed toe sandals They will get very wet and dirt Shorts (mid-thigh length or longer) Sunglasses optional Insect Repellant Optional Good Cheer!!! What Campers Should Bring Food Food that does not need refrigeration small coolers If in Den please refrain from peanut butter because of allergies. Drinks for lunch Recyclable plastic bottles (for lunch only) or Juice Cartons unopened No sodas, carbonated or caffeinated drinks NO GLASS BOTTLES AND NO RESEALABLE WATER BOTTLES! Items Prohibited at Camp Knives Scouts will lose a corner of their Whittlin Chip if they have one Weapons Flammable materials Alcohol or drugs Electronic devices Games (PSP s, Gameboys, etc.) Music players (Radios, ipods, CD Players, etc.) Communications (Cell phones, Treo s, or other IM devices) Resalable water containers (water bottles, camelbacks, etc) Camp Chairs for boys in Dens Books, magazines, newspapers (except during lunch) Bad Attitudes! Camp Cleanliness A Scout always leaves an area better than he found it Clean up Den Area during the day and at the end of the day Don t make litter Pick up trash as you walk the grounds Recycle any disposable containers in the appropriate bins DO NOT RECYCLE CUB SCOUTS!! Station Etiquette Help with Entering the Station Every camp station should be entered with Den Cheer Hello, Mr/Ms/Mrs XXX (staff member name) Every camp station should be left with a loud Thank You Move from station to station in an orderly manner using the buddy system Do not run in Camp! Den Etiquette Camp hats must be worn at all times when outside No boys are to ride in any wagon Den time is scheduled during lunch to work on the den cheer, flag, song/skit Boys should remain in the den area No wandering around. Health and Safety Procedures National Pike District
Injuries or Health Crisis If an injury or health crisis occurs, the Day Camp Staff at the station shall be notified immediately Day Camp Staff will notify the First Aid station and the Camp Director Station If we have to close a station, those dens at that station will go back to the Den Areas The Camp Medical Staff will decide what action to take First Aid is administered by the Medical Staff. Rain/Storm Procedures It is likely that it will rain/storm during Day Camp Activities will continue during light drizzle or rain Carry your ponchos in the den wagon Keep your ponchos at your station During Heavy Rain/Storm/Lightning: Two (2) air horn blasts will be sounded over camp loudspeakers Move immediately to the Main Exhibition Hall or the sheep building Camp Director will indicate all clear status and resumption of activities May 2017 2017 Cub Scout Day Camp Orientation 25
Storm / Thunder/Lightning If sudden storm/lightning: Avoid walking near high or metal objects Keep 100 ft away, if possible Do not touch the metal poles of the station shelters! Everyone move to Main Exhibition Hall or Sheep Building and stay away from open doorways, metal walls and columns, metal pipes Junior Campers to Dining Hall and 4H Building Do not stop under tree, tents, or open-sided structures Avoid open areas such as parking areas If you cannot get to a large enclosed building, the second safest location is an enclosed metal vehicle (car, truck, or van) Do not use a soft-top vehicle, bike, or golf cart Do not touch the metal parts May 2017 2017 Cub Scout Day Camp Orientation 26
Lost Child/Emergency Procedures Emergency Procedure Notification: 3 Blasts of air horn over Den Leaders must tally their boys on arrival at each station If a Cub Scout is unaccounted for, immediately contact the Day Camp staff at that station The staff will immediately contact the Camp Director andadmin Director. Backtrack Procedure: Staff, not Adult Den Leader, will try to backtrack from the station to previous activity to attempt to locate unaccounted child Adult Den Leaders must stay with the Den Do not return to the Main Exhibition Hall STAY WHERE YOU ARE!! If this fails, then Camp Director will implement Lost Child procedure May 2017 2017 Cub Scout Day Camp Orientation 27
Lost Child/Emergency Procedures If Lost Child procedure is implemented 3 air horn blasts. Stop were you are. Admin Director will call Stations for Den Checks. Staff will search bathrooms, main hall and other areas Trading Post will be closed All Day Camp stations will be closed immediately All Main Exhibition Hall entrance doors will be closed except the main entrance doors Den Leader must tally the boys by name on a sheet of paper and When the admin calls, advise them all boys are accounted for and no extras. No Cub Scout will leave the Den Area except to use the bathroom (w/ buddy) Cub Scouts must leave by Main Entrance for bathroom May 2017 2017 Cub Scout Day Camp Orientation 28
Lost Child/Emergency Procedures Adults will be stationed at every exit from the Main Exhibition Hall Two adults will be stationed at the bathroom Day Camp staff and selected individuals will implement the search procedure If everyone is accounted for, Camp Director will reopen the Day Camp If a Cub Scout or a Jr. Camper is unaccounted for after the search procedure, the Camp Director will notify the Howard County Police All individuals will remain in Den Areas or Jr. Camper Building Baltimore Area Council Scout Executive will be notified Camp Staff will notify Parents of unaccounted children An emergency drill will occur during the week May 2017 2017 Cub Scout Day Camp Orientation 29
Fatality Day Camp staff is notified immediately Witnesses will be segregated - individually Everyone else returns to the Den Areas or the Jr. Camper Building Day Camp will be closed Day Camp staff will start notification of parents according to Camp Registration Forms The following will be notified: Baltimore Area Council Scout Executive Howard County Police Parents Official BSA procedures will be implemented While on the Howard County Fairgrounds, no one is allowed to talk to the media May 2017 2017 Cub Scout Day Camp Orientation 30
