Historical Coal Production and Exports Queensland exported 159.5 million tonnes of coal in 2008-09 Queensland exported 183 million tonnes of coal in 2009-10 Queensland exported approximately 162.6 million tonnes of coal in 2010-11 Reduced exports in 2010-11 were due to the December 2010 & January 2011 wet weather events. 2

Port of Abbot Point T2, T3 and MCF X25 expansion: from 21-25 Mtpa (completed June 2009) X30 expansion: from 25-30Mtpa (completed June 2010) X50 terminal: to raise capacity from 25-50 Mtpa (expected completion September 2011) Owned by North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation (NQBP) NQBP has commenced planning for a multi-cargo port facility adjacent to Abbot Point, possibly servicing other industries potentially located on the Abbot Point State Development Area. 14
Goonyella to Abbot Point Expansion Project, or GAP Project (including Northern Missing Link) A new, 69 kilometre rail link between the North Goonyella and Newlands rail systems Upgrades and partial duplication of the Newlands system (including 175 kms of track between Newlands and Abbot Point, with links to the Abbot Point Coal Terminal) Construction commenced in May 2010 On 23 May 2011, QR National began laying railway track on the NML The GAP project to stage X50 is expected to be completed by June 2012 15

Surat Basin Railway Surat Basin Rail Joint Venture (SBRJV): - Australian Transport and Energy Corridor (ATEC) - Queensland Rail (QR) - Xstrata Coal SBRJV proposes to construct a 210 kilometre railway between Wandoan and Banana to enable large scale mining and export of thermal coal from the Surat Basin Also involves rail upgrades in the Moura coal rail system Completion dates subject to commitment to related projects such as Wiggins Island Coal Export Terminal, and coal projects in the Surat Basin. 17
Wandoan Coal Mine Project Wandoan Joint Venture (WJV): - Xstrata Coal Qld Pty Ltd - ICRA Wandoan Pty Ltd - Sumisho Coal Australia Pty Ltd Proposed new, 30 Mtpa, open cut thermal coal mine at Wandoan in the Surat Basin Export through proposed Wiggins Island Coal Terminal at Gladstone, or a new (yet to be approved) terminal proposed by Xstrata Coal (Qld) at Balaclava Island (40 km north of Gladstone) 12 November 2010: Coordinator-General conditionally approved the project. Next stage: Federal Government assessment under the EBPC Act; Queensland Government Mineral Resources Act.
