Our camp day is scheduled with age-appropriate activities from 9am 4pm Monday through Friday. Plus! We re open for before and after care from 7am 9am and 4pm 6pm at no additional cost. That s 11 hours of care daily! For no extra charge we offer campers swim lessons as well as a t-shirt! SIBLING SAVINGS = For Each Additional Child in Camp, Save $100! With our sibling savings option, you save more for each additional child you send gether camp. For each additional child who attends camp, you save $10 a week! Children can test out the zip line, climb the rock wall, and more while you meet our staff and learn all about Adventure Camp. Our day camps meet the highest health and safety standards of the YMCA and the NYS Health Department. Camps are inspected twice each year by the Department of Health and files are available for inspection at your county health department office. First Aid equipment is maintained on and off site and staff are trained in First Aid and CPR. Our hand-picked staff are trained in First Aid, CPR, pool safety, heat and sun safety, age-appropriate activities, conflict resolution, rainy day play and more! Staff training includes almost 30 hours before camp begins. Our camper counselor ratios follow best practices, with ratios from 1 counselor 6 campers 1 12, and pool ratios from 1 3 (for non-swimmers) 1 8 (for deepend swimmers). There are always two certified lifeguards on deck when we re in the pool! Camper Safety Safety comes first at the Y. That s why we ask all campers celebrate camp in ways that are respectful themselves, other campers, and our staff. To ensure the safety of all those in our care, a camper whose behavior poses a risk safety may be removed from camp. Phos and Videos To help share the fun of summer camp, YMCA staff use phographs and videos that feature children from our camps for promotional materials. Refunds We cannot refund the cost of camp for the voluntary withdrawal of a camper due illness, vacation, or other absence (temporary or permanent), or for the dismissal of a camper. Bus Transportation We offer transportation camp by bus from the Albany YMCA and the Schenectady High School. OUR PROGRAMS Building Confident Children DAY CAMP Entering Kindergarten through Grade 8 We help your child build confidence while enjoying a variety of programs and activities that encourage her/ him develop independence while learning new skills. Campers enjoy climbing our rock wall, zooming down our zip line (for grades 1 8), fun art projects, swimming lessons three times a week, sports, and a variety of special events. Children also engage in community building projects and many opportunities for personal growth with our focus on discovery, hands-on education, and enriched learning opportunities. Day Camp Skills Classes Campers enjoy new experiences through our day camp skills classes which include: Outdoor Education Arts and Crafts Archery (2nd Grade & older) Team Sports Pond activities LEARNING THROUGH PLAY Adventure Science and Nature Discoveries Grades K and up Each week, campers explore the great outdoors through games, sries and songs. Children get see live frogs, ads, tadpoles, turtles and more as part of our Nature Cabin hands-on experimental activities. Archery Grades 2 and Up Our trained instrucr will help your child learn how accurately shoot a bow as campers learn safety procedures, drills, stance and posture, and target games. CAMP REGISTRATION TWO WAYS TO REGISTER: 1. ONLINE AT www.cdymca.org/camp complete your child s registration. 2. AT YOUR YMCA BRANCH, kiosks will be available for you complete your child s registration. Staff will also be available for assistance. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/APPROVALS: Upon registration, you will receive an email from CampDoc.com requesting medical information, immunization records, emergency contacts and authorized pickups, as well as approve medical emergency, pho/video permission, activities, and sunscreen release forms. This is all completed online.
OUR TEEN PROGRAMS Fun Adventures TRAVEL CAMP Entering Grades 5-9 High Demand Join us for an adventure-packed summer! Campers entering fifth grade through ninth grade travel every day fun-filled locations. Campers explore different summer activities such as amusement and water parks, state parks, kayaking trips and more! This popular program fills up quickly, so please register early. Join us for one week or for all 6 weeks of travel camp. You choose. Campers travel Tuesday through Friday with camp activities on Monday at Adventure Camp. Trips take place during regular camp hours, departing at 9am and returning Adventure camp by 4pm. Campers are grouped by age and supervised by experienced camp staff. In the case of inclement weather, Travel Camp will visit other local indoor facilities for fun and exciting indoor activities. Any changes the travel schedule will be provided you. OUR TEEN PROGRAMS For our Future Leaders LEADERS-IN-TRAINING (LIT) PROGRAM Grades 7 8 Let us help your child develop sound decision making skills by providing challenging and fun character building experiences. LITs enjoy all the fun of camp: swim lessons, games, sports, crafts, a community service project, field trip and more! All Day Camp campers entering 7th and 8th grade are aumatically included in our LIT program. COUNSELOR-IN-TRAINING (CIT) PROGRAM Grades 9 and 10 Our program helps CITs learn job skills, and identify the characteristics of a good counselor as they develop those characteristics in themselves. CITs attend child care related trainings that help them learn and understand such skills as behavior management, safety and awareness, how lead games and activities, and how be a positive role model. The CIT program is also designed help CITs learn skills necessary obtain and retain employment.
SPECIALTY CAMPS Encouraging Exploration GRADES 1 3 Fairy Tale Camp Week 3 This is a great camp for children who love dreaming about kings and queens, knights and dragons, and living in a castle. Campers are immersed in the wonderful world of fairy tales as they enjoy sries and discover illumination, castle building, and more. Recreational swimming is offered each day. GRADES 2 5 LEGO Camp Week 5 Use LEGOs imagine, create and build as you learn fun facts and information about the hisry of LEGO. Your child will learn a variety of different science and engineering concepts through daily (age and ability appropriate) challenges. Campers also work on a themed project throughout the week that culminates in a presentation of their project. Science Camp Week 8 Science camp promotes a healthy interest in the sciences by giving campers a chance do fun, interactive experiments. For example, areas that might be investigated are rocks and minerals, chemical reactions, the stars and STEM. There will be an emphasis on the scientific method, good leadership, cooperation and teamwork skills. Creativity and curiosity are also important elements of science camp, and are integral part of the formation of new ideas. GRADES 2 8 Art Camp Week 2, 4 & 7 Your child will love exploring different artistic mediums and art forms. All children need is a love of art. No experience is necessary. All abilities are welcome. Friday afternoon, campers display their artwork in an art show for other campers and parents visit and enjoy. Drama Camp Weeks 2 through 8 Our welcoming, encouraging atmosphere is designed help your child develop her/his creativity and confidence while creating and performing in a production. No previous experience with drama, chorus, or dance is needed. With the guidance of our caring, trained instrucrs, your child will rehearse daily and assist in making costumes, scenery and props. At the end of the week, campers perform their production for a live audience of family and friends. Please sign up early. Each production is limited 24 campers. Here are this summer s plays. Week 2 Camp Rock Week 3 Aladdin Week 4 Hercules Week 5 Mary Poppins Week 6 Annie (2014 version) Week 7 Peter Pan AGES 10 and Under USTA 10 and Under Tennis Camp Weeks 1, 3 & 6 9am 12pm Our certified instrucrs introduce your child the joys of tennis. With 10 and Under Tennis, balls bounce lower, don t move as fast through the air, and are easier hit. Children s tennis racquets are sized for small hands and courts are smaller and easier cover. Using this format, within a short time kids are rallying, playing, and excited keep playing. Kids have more fun and less frustration as they play real tennis and have real fun. Full Day Option Campers who participate in our full-day Tennis Camp join us for Day Camp in the afternoon, from 12 4pm.
NEW SPORTS CAMPS! GRADES 4 and Up Flag Football Week 3 From beginners advanced players, all are welcome! We focus on skill sets that can be transferred in real game situations. Campers learn how properly throw and catch a football as well as design plays and implement concepts that improve their understanding of the game. Introducing your child sports like Flag football helps improve their cognitive skills, eye and hand coordination, and overall physical ability. We encourage player progression in a fun-filled, safe environment. Campers spend the first half of their day in flag football training and the second half enjoying regular camp activities. Lacrosse Week 4 Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing sports in the country! Lacrosse Camp focuses on proper techniques and game play through drills sessions designed mimic actual game play. Campers will learn throw, catch, and shoot all while developing an understanding of the game. Campers can bring their own equipment or use ours. Campers of all skill levels are welcome. Campers spend the first half of their day in lacrosse sessions and the second half enjoying regular camp activities. SPEED = Sport Enhancement Training Week 5 This one week camp focuses on helping young athletes develop their athleticism through time tested, proven training techniques. Activities encourage young athletes develop eye and hand coordination, eye and foot coordination, and timing skills in addition explosive speed and strength. This camp offers a great way improve athletic ability and cardio respirary endurance, as well as overall fitness. This instructional program is offered every other day for one week (3 one-hour sessions). Campers spend the first part of their day in training and the rest of the day enjoying regular camp activities.
