Make this the best summer ever! Gurnee Park District Summer Camp promotes fun, adventure and friendship in an outdoor environment. We offer a wide variety of camps including sports, crafts, games and special interest. We also coordinate with Woodland's Summer School program to ensure your camper has the best summer ever! Our flexible options allow you to choose the best schedule for you and your family. We have well-trained, seasoned staff that are committed to each camper's safety and well-being. Variety We offer camps for every interest ranging from arts and science to adventure and sports. Our camps offer something for every child. Enrichment camps Several camps are offered in the late afternoon as a way to add stand alone programming or to complement full day programming. We bus campers from their camp location to these programs. Inclusion and Special Recreation To meet the needs of people with disabilities, staff at Warren Special Recreation Association, WSRA, can assist with the inclusion process. Follow registration guidelines and note special needs and/or accommodations when you register your child so a plan of action can be completed. Flexible days and times We offer three day options for many of our five day camps. Some camps have three week sessions and one week options. Extended day programming Our most popular camps offer a variety of drop off and pick up options to work with your schedule. Convenient online forms and camp schedules All forms and camp schedules can be found online at GurneeParkDistrict.com. Camp swim test All kindergarten through eighth grade campers swim at our Aquatic Center. We require all swimmers to take a swim test to swim while at the pool. We also offer swimming focused camps and swimming lessons during the summer. See page 9 for lesson information. Getting started is easy - register online or at a GPD community center for camp beginning February 5. Sign up for the program reflecting the grade your child will be entering in fall 2018. In order to register for camp, you may pay a $50 deposit or the full amount per child for each session at the time of registration to hold your spot. All enrichment, specialty and mini camps require the full payment at the time of registration. Note: The $50 deposit is nonrefundable. All camp fees must be paid in full two weeks before the session begins. A $25 late fee per child will be charged for payments not received by the final balance due dates. Your child may not attend camp until the full session fee is paid. For more information regarding the payment policy, visit GurneeParkDistrict.com. If a camp is held at a school or use school property and you reside in that district then you pay the resident rate for that program. Mini Camp at Hunt Club - Grades K-8 Mini Camp is designed for children to keep busy before the camp season begins. This camp will provide children with additional time to participate in their favorite sports, games, and crafts. Nature hikes, special projects, and special themes will also be highlighted. Each day campers will go on a field trip to a local park. Please bring a lunch and beverage and dress for the outdoors. This program must be paid in full at the time of registration. Camp Learn to Swim Summer Camp Swim School - Ages 5-12 (for summer campers) Lessons are offered in conjunction with all full day and half day camps. Swim Instructors follow GPD standards as campers progress through a variety of swimming & safety skills. A swim test will be given to any new participants on the first day of lessons to evaluate each child s ability and place them in the appropriate level. Experienced Swimmers: This program will introduce more advanced swim strokes such as butterfly and sidestroke while simultaneously increasing lap distance and teaching lap lane etiquette. This program is perfect for those who are interested in continuing to swim for physical fitness, possibly joining a swim club, or continuing their strength and endurance for swimming. Advanced Swimmers: This program focuses on endurance, speed, diving, drills, starts and technique. Participants will be exposed to practice sets, dryland exercises and a social atmosphere while learning how to decrease their swim times. Summer Sprouts Preschool at Hunt Club - Ages 2½ - 3½ Summer Sprouts provides young children an opportunity to experience the routine of preschool, play and interact with peers, gain confidence and most of all, have fun! Children are strongly encouraged to register for multiple sessions which helps children with separation concerns, as well as learning routines. One Week Enrichment Camps at Viking Park- Ages 4-6 These one week camps for ages 4-6 are a perfect way to expose your child to many different types of experiences as well as work around a busy summer schedule. Campers will be working with a variety of art materials. Campers will explore various science concepts, including chemical reactions and exploring color, with simple science experiments and hands on activities. New lessons are taught each day. Safety City is an interactive camp that teaches campers about various aspects of safety through songs, games, crafts and drama. Campers will also learn bike safety and how to board, ride and exit a bus safely. This camp will also include water play and a visitor from the local police or fire station. This camp will spend a majority of the day outside. Bring your own bike helmet. This camp will allow young artists to explore a variety of art techniques and learn the alphabet while creating their own artwork. Each day campers will do art projects, play games, read books featuring the day s letters. Children will get to create their very own superhero complete with unique powers and an original superhero cape. They will make superhero crafts, play superhero games and complete a superhero obstacle course. Campers will be measuring, mixing, blending, and creating foods in this one-week camp. Campers will also learn about table manners, develop social skills involved in sharing a meal with others and participate in food related crafts and games. Exploring nature incorporates all areas of development. Young children are natural explorers; so, they will enjoy a variety of STEM activities - science, technology, engineering and math.
