DAY 1: USA - SPAIN (Friday) Fly overnight to Madrid. DAY 2: MADRID (Saturday) Bienvenidos a España! Your Forum Tour Manager will greet you at the airport and will remain with your group for the length of your stay. Transfer to your hotel to check in, drop off your luggage and freshen up. Follow your Forum Tour Manager on a walking tour of Madrid. Discover Plaza de España with Cervantes monument, La Puerta del Sol, the lively Gran Via, the trendy calle de Alcalá and the heart of Old Madrid. Walk to the heart of Madrid de los Austrias (Madrid of the Hapsburgs) where there is a pretty and charming square, Plaza de la Villa. Alongside the square is Casa de la Villa, designed by Juan Gómez de Mora in the 17th Century. Next to it stands Casa de Cisneros, a 16th century palace where inside, the Tapestry Room is a highlight, with an impressive collection of extraordinary quality Have your first meal in Spain at a local restaurant. Overnight accomodation in Madrid. DAY 3: MADRID (Sunday) Today after breakfast, visit the Museo National del Prado. The Prado is one of the most important museums of the world and houses masterpieces by Goya and Velazquez, including Las Meninas, considered by some art historians to be the greatest painting ever created. Free time for lunch in the spacious and iconic Parque del Retiro at the edge of the city centre. In this 350 acre park you can see various sculpture galleries and statues, including the Crystal Palace. Later, snack like a real Madrileño with some Churros con Chocolate! Next, discover the secrets of Madrid by participating in a Treasure hunt. For your dinner, enjoy an authentic surtido (variety) de tapas. Overnight accommodation in Madrid. DAY 4: MADRID - BILBAO (Monday) After breakfast at your hotel, say goodbye to your Forum Tour Manager and board your private motorcoach to head to Bilbao, home to your exchange partners. Upon arrival at IES Miguel De Unamuno, have a short orientation and meet your exchange partners. After that, go to your host families with your exchange partners and get to know them, have dinner and overnight accommodation. DAY 5: EXCHANGE PROGRAM (Tuesday) Breakfast with your host family. After breakfast go to attend classes at a Spanish school with your exchange partners. Activities and workshops may be organized at the school during your visit (to be confirmed with the Spanish school).
DAY 6: DAY TRIP TO SAN SEBASTIAN (Wednesday) After breakfast, meet your Spanish Forum Tour Manager at the school. Board your private bus and head for a day trip to San Sebastian. On arrival, head to La Concha beach. La Concha is considered to be one of the most beautiful beach in Spain. See Miramar Palace as you head towards El Antiguo neighbourhood and Ondarreta Beach. As you reach the end of your walk along the beaches, at the foot of Monte Igueldo, you will see the Peine del Viento (Wind Comb). This sculpture, by Eduardo Chillida, is a symbol of San Sebastian and marks one of its most beautiful viewpoints. Then, get ready to go to the top of Monte Igueldo to enjoy unbeatable views of San Sebastian. Take the Monte Igueldo funicular to make your way to the top. Have some free time for lunch and to discover the old town at your own pace. Take time to explore the neighbourhood, which highlights include Plaza de la Constitucion, Iglesia de Santa María and Iglesia de San Vicente. And why not enjoy some of the most famous and celebrated pintxos, a Basque take on tapas. Later in the afternoon, return to your partner school for dinner and night accommodation with your host families. DAY 7: EXCHANGE PROGRAM (Thursday) Breakfast with your family. Attend school with your exchange partners. After lunch at school, your tour guide will meet you and take you on a sightseeing tour of Bilbao. In the evening, return to your family for dinner and overnight accommodation. DAY 8: EXCHANGE PROGRAM (Friday) Breakfast with your family. Attend school with your exchange partners. After breakfast, attend classes at the Spanish school with your exchange partners. Activities and workshops may be organized at the school during your visit (to be confirmed with the Spanish school). Return to your host family for dinner and overnight accommodation. DAY 9: SATURDAY WITH YOUR HOST FAMILY DAY 10: DEPART (Sunday) Transfer to the airport for your flight back to the USA. EXCHANGE PROGRAM An exchange program is an excellent alternative to the classic programs as it offers the opportunity for students to immerse themselves in a different culture, practice and improve their knowledge of a foreign language in addition to making friends. The Exchange Program is organized between Rivers Academy of Atlanta and el IES Miguel De Unamuno de Bilbao. The conditions of this exchange are agreed between the two schools. Note that the number of pupils participating in the exchange may differ between the two schools. Forum cannot guarantee that both schools have the same number of participants. However, everything possible will be done to find additional hosting families in the case that one school does not have the same number as the other school. This is the basic reciprocal agreement of the families and the exchange partner families. The main focus on the host family is to provide food and lodging to the foreign student. In addition, it is beneficial to the student if you as a family can spend time with them so that they get the opportunity to see how life in the USA compares to their life at home. The student exchange form provides a lot of information about your temporary guest including their likes, dislikes and usual family life along with personal information about allergies and emergency contact detail.
