08 Events Guide

A Word from the Mayor of Minneapolis e have an amazing city here in Minneapolis, and we re proud to show it off. There s no better Wtime to do it than during the Minneapolis Aquatennial. Each year, the Official Civic Celebration of the City of Minneapolis welcomes people near and far to take part in some of the most beloved annual events in our state. This year, we ll pack two-dozen events into four days from July 8- and once again get together for an action-packed week of fun. The best part about Aquatennial is there is something for everyone. We ll again enjoy our flagship events, the Point Energy Torchlight Parade on Wednesday at 8:30 pm and the Fireworks on Saturday at 0 pm both of which you can get to for FREE by bus or light rail courtesy of a Metro Transit free ride pass. One is the largest nighttime parade in the state, and the other is a top-five annual fireworks display in the country. How incredible is that? But we have so much more, including some fun new events to take in. If you re into unique fitness opportunities, Alchemy 365 at Aquatennial is the thing for you. Take a free class at the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden on Friday at 5:30 pm you ll enjoy the beauty of the public arts displays in a whole new way. Later that night, Fulton Beer will be putting on a bike race through the North Loop followed by a celebratory get-together. And on Saturday, we re connecting the Mississippi Riverfront where our city was born in a whole new way. Before enjoying the Fireworks and pre-fireworks festivities, head over to Boom Island beginning at am for a part at the Aquatennial Skyline Fest featuring 5K and 0K paddleboard races and free canoe rides, food, beverages, music and more. Then head over to the Guthrie Theater for AquaJam skateboarding fun before taking in the Fireworks that night. In between, enjoy two free waterski shows by the Twin Cities River Rats, run in the Life Time Fitness Torchlight 5K, help save a life by giving blood at the Aquatennial Blood Drive at IDS (learn more about the company challenge and the great prize for the winner), and much more. Plus enjoy great promotional deals from downtown businesses by showing your Skipper Pin. Full event and Skipper Pin information can be found at Aquatennial.com. Don t miss out on any of the fun. Visit the events page on the Aquatennial website and plan out your trip. We have an extraordinary city the world saw it when we hosted the Big Game last February, but we ve long known it to be true. Let s celebrate our city and our community together. Come out to the Aquatennial July 8- and enjoy the summer weather together. We can t wait to see you here! Sincerely, Mayor Jacob Frey City of Minneapolis For more information, visit Aquatennial.com/Events
