2018 PC BSA CAMP CARDMASTER Attend the district Camp Card Training on Feb. 20 or 22, and pick up your unit s Camp Cards. Communicate the purpose of the Camp Card sale and how your unit will provide camping opportunities through the sale to Scouts and parents. Provide the timeline of the sale including sale end date of April 29 and monies/cards due back to unit date of May 4. Kickoff the Unit Camp Card sale with excitement, providing all youth members with a sales kit and at least 10 cards to sell. Coach and praise your Scouts weekly. Collect monies and distribute additional cards weekly to ensure a successful unit sale. Turn in all monies due and unsold cards at the district turn-in no later than May 4 CAMPING CHAIRMAN Be knowledgeable of all Piedmont Council camping opportunities for your Scouts. Encourage all your Scouts to participate in at least one camping opportunity during the year, including the local Day Camp and Camp Bud Schiele. Explain to parents the importance of the outing in Scouting! Set a goal for the unit to have a certain percentage of Scouts attending a camping activity and achieve it. ORDERS & RE-DISTRIBUTION OF CARDS The Council placed an order of camp cards based on the 2017 Sale and anticipate that this year s card will produce a record sale for the council. To begin the 2018 sale, each unit will be issued the number of cards sold during the 2017 sale, rounded up to the nearest 50 cards, or a MAXIMUM of 250 cards, whichever is less. For example, a unit that sold 101 cards will receive 150 to begin the 2018 Sale. Units may request additional cards anytime during the sale, however a minimum of 1/2 of the issued cards must be accounted for ; 100 cards issued, 50 must be accounted for or $300. Units may settle their account any time prior to the May 4, 2018, deadline and are encouraged to return unsold cards early so that other units may have the opportunity to sell more cards. 4

RETURN POLICY Unsold Camp Cards can be returned at no cost to the units no later than May 4, 2018. Cards should be returned at the district turn-in meeting during the week of May 1-4 (dates to be set by districts). The unit must return cards in their entirety including all seven break-off coupons. The unit is responsible for any unreturned cards (lost, misplaced, damaged etc.) and should instruct parents and Scouts to treat each card as if it were a $10.00 bill. ADDITIONAL UNIT INCENTIVES Bonus Card Rewards = Extra Commission! Units selling 50 to 249 cards will receive one Bonus Card for every 20 cards sold. Units selling 250 to 499 cards will receive one Bonus Card for every 15 cards sold. Units selling more than 500 cards will receive one Bonus Card for every 10 cards sold. These bonus cards can be sold for additional commission for the unit and have the potential to increase commissions by an additional 5% and could increase commission to more than 60%. Bonus cards will only be awarded to units who settle their accounts by the May 4 deadline. Units closing out their accounts after May 4 will forfeit any Bonus Cards earned. TOP SELLING SCOUT AND GRAND PRIZE DRAWING! In addition to the Commissions Earned and the Bonus Cards Available, the council will also recognize the TOP SELLING SCOUT with their choice of either a PS4 or XBox One. These top prizes are perfect for filming that next big Scouting Adventure. In addition to the TOP SELLER, EVERY Scout who sells a minimum of 10 cards is eligible for the GRAND PRIZE drawing! Sell 50 cards and you now have five chances to win. GRAND PRIZE drawing will be held on May 7, 2018, and the council will award ONE winner for Cub Scouts and ONE winner for Boy Scouts/Venturers. Each winner can also choose their choice of a PS4 or XBox One. 2018 PC BSA 5

2018 PC BSA HOW TO SELL THE CAMP CARDS The job of the Camp Cardmaster is simple, to teach your Scouts how to sell. To make the most of your sales opportunities, your unit needs to employ the three sales methods. Create a plan and train your Scouts in all three methods; this will give you the best results. Door-to-Door: Take your Cards and sales envelope for a trip around the neighborhood. Highlight the great coupons and that the cards will save them money! Encourage them to buy more than one card because the Break off Coupons can only be used one time and more than pay for the card. Let everyone know you are trying to earn your way to camp. Store Front Sales: Set up a sales booth and sell Camp Cards on the spot. This can be an effective approach in the right location at the right time. Focus on multiple locations over the course of the sale. It is important to always ask permission from the store manager prior to setting up in front of a store. Many businesses including Dick s Sporting Goods have policies that prohibit store front sales (DO NOT CONTACT DICK S SPORTING GOODS as this could jeopardize our current relationship). Also it is important to check with your district as many have district signup sheets for store fronts that must be signed up for at the district. Locations to consider include Walmart, Lowe s, Sam s, Tractor Supply, grocery stores etc. Again, make sure you have permission prior to setting up in front of any stores. Sell at Work: A great way for mom and dad to help their Scout is to sell at work. Mom and Dad are encouraged to take Camp Cards to work and ask co-workers to purchase the cards. Remember, you are actually saving people money and who doesn t want to save money? Safety and Courtesy Be sure to review these safety and courtesy tips with your Scouts and parents. Always sell with another Scout or with an adult NEVER alone. Never enter someone s home. Never sell after dark, unless you are with an adult. Don t carry large amounts of cash. Always walk on the sidewalk and driveways stay off the grass. Be careful of dogs while selling. Say THANK YOU even if they don t buy a card. 6

IT S EASY TO SELL LET ME SHOW YOU HOW! Do the following: Sell FIVE to your Family. Sell FIVE to Friends and Neighbors. Have Mom and Dad each sell FIVE at work. That s 20 Camp Cards in less than a week, and TWO chances at the GRAND PRIZE! Sales Techniques for Scouts. Don t miss the opportunity to use the Camp Card sale to train your Scouts in public speaking, sales and service. Your Scouts and parents will appreciate the effort and your sales will improve. Camp Card sales may also qualify for some requirements towards the Salesmanship Merit Badge and other advancement opportunities. Have Scouts role play and practice during the kickoff. Find a way to make training fun and reward Scouts who do a good job. Have your Scouts practice these simple steps: Wear your Uniform. Smile and say Hello, my name is. I m a Scout with (Pack/Troop /Crew). Tell them what you are doing I m trying to raise money so that I can attend Summer Camp this year. Tell them what they can do to help I m selling Camp Cards that will not only help me go to Summer Camp, but will help YOU save money as well. Point out a couple of the valuable coupons (Dick s Sporting Goods, grocery stores). Close the sale, and say, Thank you! We are Selling the ADVENTURE of CAMP, not just a Camp Card Ensure your Scout families understand that they are selling character, they are selling a better community, and they are selling all the benefits of Scouting and the camping activities; NOT just a Camp Card. Emphasize that every card sold helps a Scout go to camp. The reason our sale will be a success is that people want to support Scouting as much as they want to buy a camp card. For more information on the Camp Card Sale, contact your District Executive or our staff advisor, Jack Crawford at: jack.crawford@scouting.org or by calling 704.864.2694 2018 PC BSA 7

2018 PC BSA YOUR UNIT KICKOFF HOW TO EXCITE YOUR SCOUTS! The objectives of your Camp Card Kickoff are simple: Get Scouts excited about camping and how they can earn their way to camp! Get parents informed about why their son should have a camp experience. How can the Camp Cardmaster ensure a successful kickoff? Make sure the Kickoff is properly promoted through email, leaders, flyers, and phone. Review the presentation with your unit leaders prior to the kickoff. Plan who is to do what and determine how the unit will use commission. Be prepared to talk about camping opportunities. Have snacks, drinks, maybe some music and make it FUN! Make sure EVERY Scout gets a Sales Envelope and 10 Camp Cards to sell. Have a Unit and Scout Goal! Have a Unit Level incentive/prize Packs: a Bike or Gift Card; Troops: Camp Scholarship or Gift Cards ONE chance for every FIVE or 10 cards sold everyone has a chance. Keep it short Make it FUN! Camp Card Kickoff Agenda 1. Grand Opening with music, cheers and excitement Give me a C, Give me an A, etc. 2. Review with Parents and Scouts the camping opportunities within your unit. a. 2018 CAMPING OPPORTUNITIES CUB SCOUT DAY CAMP The Cub Scout Day camp should be one of the HIGHLIGHTS of the year for EVERY Cub Scout. Day Camp is a week-long activity held in every district for all rising 2nd through 5th grade Cub Scouts. Cost for this event is only $75.00 if registered by May 1, 2018. Day Camp dates and locations will be announced as soon as available. Please encourage your Scouts to attend Day Camp in 2018. Day Camp helps retain cubs and move them along the Cub Scout Trail. It provides a JUMP START towards next year s RANK and it delivers the promises made to shoot bb guns and bows and arrows. Our goal is 50% of registered Cubs attending day camp in 2018, please help us by promoting Day Camp in your unit. CUB SCOUT ODYSSEY: May 18-19, 2018 This weekend camping event is a great way to get your Cub Scouts out and camping. Held at Cub World at the Piedmont Council Scout Reservation, this event is designed for the Cub Scout and his adult partner. Only $70 for the pair will get you all your meals, a patch, program materials and a whole lot of FUN! This event fills up fast so once you receive your brochure, register early. WEBELOS RESIDENT CAMP: July 25-28, 2018 Designed for rising 4th and 5th Graders, this four-day STEM-related resident camp is the newest camping opportunity for Webelos. Participants will have the opportunity to earn the Webelos NOVA award, Webelos Aquanaut as well as visit Boy Scout Camp during Family Night and eat a meal in the dining hall. The event is only $140 for each Webelo and includes all meals, program materials, and a patch. Event is held in Cub World and you don t want to miss it. CUB SCOUT SPOOK-O-REE: Oct. 27-28, 2018 This camping opportunity is again held at Cub World and is one of the most exciting and fun camping opportunities for Cubs and their adult partners. Many packs register and camp together and you will see campsites decorated for Halloween. Events center around a spooky good time and will include bb guns, bows and arrows, a trick or treat hike and much, much, more! This event may fill quickly so register early once you receive your registration brochure. Cost for Spook-o-ree is only $60 per pair. CAMP BUD SCHIELE BOY SCOUT SUMMER CAMP Baden Powell has been quoted as saying, a week of summer camp is as important as a full year of troop meetings. EVERY Scout should have the opportunity to attend Summer Camp, and we hope you will choose Camp Bud Schiele as your 2018 destination. The staff is already working on this year s program, and it should provide another great camping experience for your Scouts. In addition, the council is working on improvements to the facilities, including updates to the waterfront. The Scout fee for 2018 is $270, if paid in full by May 18, and your Scouts are sure to have a great time while earning merit badges, improving their Scout skills and making life-long memories. Please help ensure a full camping season by encouraging your Scouts to come to Camp Bud Schiele. Remember, a Scout only needs to sell 65 Camp Cards to pay his full way to camp (based on 40% commission) so as little as 33 cards would pay half his Summer Camp fee and could increase your unit participation. Goal for Summer Camp attendance is to have 60% of registered Scouts attending! 2018 PC BSA 9
