*DRESS CODE RULES \ EXPECTATIONS* * * * SUMMER CONFERENCE * * * SCHEDULE OF EVENTS In an effort to assist you in preparing and packing for your trip to the Summer Conference and advise you of what to expect in the way of attire needed as you attend the functions we want you to know expectations for attendees. The Conference is truly a family event and held in a mostly casual atmosphere. The weather is usually hot and Villas by the Sea Resort has a wonderful pool and offers many opportunities for you to enjoy your stay. We do however want to offer the following suggestions for your consideration. You will be greeted by your President and the Executive Board at the President s Reception on Sunday afternoon. Sunday will also feature a family entertainment and dinner. Dress is as casual as we get with shorts and jeans and an opportunity to relax after a long drive to the Island. Sunday night entertainment will be family oriented and we welcome children and other guest to enjoy renewing acquaintances and making new friends. All Seminars, Monday s Opening Session, Tuesday luncheon, and Wednesday s GAAO Business Breakfast meeting will be business casual. The Luncheon on Tuesday will be an Attendee Appreciation Luncheon for all registered attendees. Monday night dinner will be the Family Seafood Buffet and will be served at 5:30 PM at the Convention Center and the GAAO Auction will begin at 7:00 PM. The auction is a fun time and will be held at the Jekyll Island Convention Center. Items from your County and other items donated will be offered and we will have free refreshments for attendees. Tuesday night you will be free to enjoy dinner on your own and try out some of the new restaurants on Jekyll Island. Plan to be back for Bingo which will be held at the Jekyll Island Convention Center. Again shorts and jeans will be everywhere. Wednesday morning we will begin with the GAAO Business Meeting at 8:00 AM followed by your classes. After classes we hope you will enjoy your afternoon. We have a special evening planned for you on Wednesday and this is the only time we ask that you dress up. The Banquet and entertainment will be furnished. Jackets and ties for the guys and semi-formal dress will be worn by all including those children who plan to attend. We hope you find these suggestions helpful and we want you to feel comfortable at all of these functions. **REFUNDS AND CANCELLATIONS ** We recognize that refunds are sometimes necessary, but at the same time it is time consuming to administrate. We ask that you be aware of our Policies now in case a refund is requested by you at a later date. A full refund requests must be in writing and received by June 29, 2018. A penalty of 10% will be charged for all refunds from June 30th to July 5th. No refunds will be made for cancellations after July 5th except in cases of death of immediate family members. We do welcome substitutions and no penalty will be assessed for substitutions. You will need to advise your hotel separately of any cancellations or substitutions made and you will be subject to the terms of the Hotels policies. The decision of the Summer Conference Chairman on all refund issues shall be final. Also please be advised that you must be registered at the Conference to participate in all Conference sponsored events. *SPECIAL REGISTRATION NOTES* All registration fees paid at Jekyll Island will be at the higher amounts. Discounted fees will only be given when PAID IN ADVANCE. If you only register yourself and then register your family at the Conference, they will be charged the higher rates. To take advantage of discounted rates you must register and fees be received by the dates stated on the Registration form. Please read carefully the Registration form to determine what is included with your registration and avoid unexpected and unnecessary confusion. The Monday Morning Opening Session Breakfast and the Wednesday morning GAAO Business Meeting Breakfast are for GAAO Members only. *AUCTION*AUCTION*AUCTION* In what has become a great evening of fun for the whole family we will have our Auction at the Jekyll Island Conference Center. The auction also raises funds which help to offset the Conference cost. We ask that all Conference attendees bring donated items from your County with a local flair. If you have manufacturers, retailers, handmade items, Cookbooks, or just about anything else that someone would bid on, please bring it with you to the Registration Desk upon arrival. If you need help with transporting your donation to Jekyll, please let John Scott know and we may be able to arrange assistance. If we all pitch in we can make this the best Auction yet! **BINGO PARTY**BINGO PARTY** The 33rd annual GAAO Bingo Party will be held at the Jekyll Island Convention Center on Tuesday Night. This fun event for the family will feature 20 Bingo games of all types and ways of Bingo. You may wear your funny hats and decorate tables if you wish. The cost is $20.00 per person which will include all games. Children and spectators must also pay the $20.00 fee and be registered for the conference. Drinks, popcorn and candy are all included in your Bingo fee, so even if you do not win one of the great prizes, everyone will be a winner! *SEMINARS*SEMINARS* In the middle of all the fun, we believe we will have the best line up of Seminars ever offered at the Summer Conference. Participants will be able to choose from concurrent sessions the seminar of most interest to them and their work activities. Some of the topics being planned at this time are, but not limited to: o Specialized Assessments, Kenny Colson (20 Hour Credit- Must be Registered for Course) o GIS/Technology, Mark Lovett-5 Hour Credit o Digest Review Update, Tracy Thomas-5 Hour Credit o IAAO Workshop 452, Fundamentals of Assessment Ratio Studies (20 Hour credit) Randy Ripperger, IAAO Past President. See Workshop description on page 6. Workshop is limited to 20 with a maximum of 2 participants per County o Department of Audits Update, Todd Paschal **BANQUET SEATING** We will not have advance seating for the Banquet this year. Seating will be on a first come, first serve basis beginning at 5:45PM on Wednesday evening. Large groups that would like to be seated at same table are advised to arrive promptly at 5:45PM. The Banquet will be in the ballroom at the Jekyll Island Conference Center beginning with seating at 5:45PM. Dinner will be served at 6:00 PM. **OTHER INFORMATION** The Villas by the Sea Resort, our host hotel, is a beautiful property and offers many amenities to Conference participants. It has a beautiful pool area and towels are furnished. Shuffleboard is available as well as volleyball courts. You will have some walking as the buildings are spread out. Beach access is available by a nice cross walk; however it is just a short trip to the public beach access. A full service restaurant is on site and there are other restaurants available on the Island. We also have blocks of rooms available at the Jekyll Club Hotel, Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Resort, Westin Hotel and Days Inn but always remember to mention you are with GAAO to get the discounted rates. Sunday afternoon and night promises to be of a fun time for all who participate. You will be greeted by the President and Executive Board at the President s Reception Sunday afternoon beginning at 5:30PM. Activities for children and adults will be included in this great evening. Monday morning we will get down to business with the Opening Session for GAAO members only beginning with breakfast at the Jekyll Island Convention Center. On Monday night dinner will be served at 5:30 PM followed by our auction at 7:00 PM. Plan to stay for the Auction and pick up some much wanted items at what could be great prices. Refreshments will be served. One of the most valuable parts of your Conference experience can be interacting with your colleagues from across the state. You will have time between evening events to socialize and visit. We do however hope to shorten the days some for some time for social and family time. Tuesday evening will be dinner on your own, but don t forget to return for Bingo! On Wednesday morning we will begin with our GAAO Business Meeting Breakfast at 8:00 AM. This event is for GAAO Members Only. We encourage all to participate in this important meeting. After the business meeting, you will attend your classes and should be finished by noon. Plan to enjoy the afternoon but be back for the Banquet on Wednesday night. The Banquet will be held in the Ballroom of the Jekyll Island Convention Center. Seating will begin at 5:45 PM with dinner served at 6:00 PM and a very nice evening of entertainment will begin around 7:00 PM. You will need to purchase banquet tickets for children 17 and under. The Banquet tickets are not included in their registration. Remember you will need to make your own arrangements if babysitting services are needed. GAAO does not make any arrangements for babysitting services. The Members Gift Bags will be given out to Registered Members at the Registration Desk at the Convention Center beginning at 3:00 PM on Sunday. If you have items that you would like to get donated for the bags, let John Scott know in advance of the Conference so we can arrange for them to be there by Sunday Morning. Gift Bags will be assembled at the Convention Center beginning at 1:00 PM on Sunday. We will see you soon!

CONFERENCE HOTEL REGISTRATION GAAO 58 th ANNUAL SUMMER CONFERENCE JEKYLL ISLAND, GEORGIA JULY 15-18, 2018 These two pages contain hotel information for the Conference. You should make your reservations as soon as possible. Other conventions will be on the Island and rooms will probably not be available later. The GAAO Summer Conference Committee is planning a lineup of seminars and courses to enhance your learning experience at the 58 th Annual Summer Conference. Stay tuned for more information. All major functions for the 2018 Conference will be held at the Convention and Conference Center that opened in May 2012. The Opening Breakfast will be on Monday morning July 16 and Seminars on July 16, 17 & 18. The Golf Tournament will be held on Sunday July 15 th and the Conference will conclude with the Banquet on July 18th. GAAO does not provide babysitting. Parents should plan for this in advance. The workshop covers the topics of sales analysis, sampling, and the development of assessment ratio studies. The workshop also covers managerial and technical issues, which include staffing, timing of studies, use of study results, statistical testing and assessment regressivity and progressivity. NOTE: Registration is limited to 20 participants and a maximum of 2 participants per County. First come first paid basis.
