What do you get when you cross a Klondike sourdough with the Pioneering Merit Badge? :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: If you came to the Fall Camporee down at Erbie, you really learned the ropes! The second part of the Pioneering merit badge is being offered at Klondike this year, and here are some things you need to know, so pay attention! We are gonna finish up the merit badge and earn some gold nuggets at the same time! Take notes and pass on this info to the rest of the prospectors, miners, drillers, sourdoughs, muleskinners, pioneers, dandies, and SPL s X Mayor It s February so the water at Orr should be off A copy of the merit badge book would be VERY helpful Each troop should have their medical forms for each person. Every patrol needs a flag and especially scout spirit! Each scout needs his blue card and merit badge worksheet-don t leave home without it! Any materials for your projects-ropes, poles etc. Scout needs a 1 st aid kit, water, snacks gloves and a frapping stick Every troop will be expected to host an event (especially if you did not host one last time} so remember leaders that a scout is Helpful and set the example for your scouts. It s important that we know who is coming so that we can better plan, so register early, or at the very least let us know if your troop is coming, as numbers are important! Read this requirement carefully and come with a plan from either Group A or Group B before Klondike. Go over these requirements at your upcoming troop meetings so that the scouts can succeed, and also to Be Prepared There will also be a Game with a Purpose thrown in! Saturday morning 6:30-8 AM wakeup, breakfast and get ready for the day 8:45 meet at flags 9:00-9:45 period 1 10:00-10:45 period 2 11:00-11:45 period 3 12-1 p.m. LUNCH 1:00-1:45 period 4 2:000-2:45 period 5 3:00-4:00 period 6 4:15-5:00 judging of patrol projects at campsites 5-6:00 dinner at campsites 6:15-7:00 judging of cardboard oven offerings 8:00 til closing--- OA campfire- 10 PM quiet and eventually lights out! Sunday 9:00 vespers and awards 10:00 pack and go or stay and enjoy!
Cardboard oven cooking contest Once again, you have had a few months to perfect your skills of cooking in a cardboard oven. I hope by now you have tried new recipes and have discovered a whole new world of possibilities in the outdoors. Things that are limited by a camping stove or Dutch oven or a campfire are all of a sudden possible! Suddenly you can cook cupcakes, sheet pan dinners, whatever and you are only limited by your imagination! Categories are open to both sweet and savory! There are many types and many ways to make a cardboard oven, from really, really simple to a bit more involved and complex. Whichever way you decide to go, they all work just fine! Nowadays you can find all the information you need on the Google tube with all kinds of tutorials. Here is a hint for you- you can cook a entire meal for 2 (including dessert) using 1 sheet pan. How s that for variety! Things you MUST have! I have to mention this again because so many failed to bring these last time!!!!! 1. Medical form 2. Merit badge blue cards----bring a few extra 3. Copy of the Pioneering merit badge worksheet bring a few extra 4. Pens and paper 5. Each scout needs a 3/8 sisal rope (3 strand) for their splices. Once again, bring a few extras, cause you know what will happen! 6. As a patrol decide on a patrol project to pioneer and then bring all the materials-ropes, poles, whatever you need to build and show off your patrols project. This is your time to be creative and WOW the camporee!!!!!! 7. Each scout should have his own frapping stick -remember that points are taken off if your lashings are loose and sloppy! 8. Suggested that each patrol have a copy of the Pioneering MB book Each scout should have his handbook and his 10 essentials.
