Application for organizing a "FAI World Gliding Championships " All the information required in this application should be complete prior to the document being submitted. Details, such as a diagram of the airfield, may be included as an Annex. When completed, an electronic copy of the Application must be sent to the IGC Competition Specialist Dick Bradley (rbradley@telkomsa.net) before the closing deadline of September 30 to enable the application to be checked for completeness. At least one competition each year, including popular Szczepan Grzeszczyk s Regional Gliding Competition, National Gliding Championships, Junior Nationals. Typical number of pilots is around 50, closer to 100 at bigger events. 2.2 Proposed period for the event 2.2.1 Competition Dates 14.05.2021 opening, 15-29.05.2021 contest flying 2.2.2 Alternate dates for competition 18.06.2021 opening, 19.06-03.07.2021 contest flying 2.3. 2.3.2 Number of towplanes that will be employed to launch all classes To be decided after entry list closing. Planned at least 1 towplane for 10 gliders. 2.3.3 Meteorological facilities that will be provided Meteo briefing each day, warnings about hazards (strong winds/thunderstorms) send by sms. 2.3.4 Repair facilities for gliders Workshop with certified aircraft mechanic available. 2.3.5 Repair facilities for radios and instruments Workshop with certified aircraft mechanic provided. 2.3.6 Oxygen requirements and supply facilities, if required Oxygen won t be required 2.3.7 What plans do you have to implement the FAI Environmental Code of Conduct during your event? FAI Environmental Code of Conduct will be implemented mainly by: Promotion of environmental awareness in air sports Support for Environmental Protection Measures Employing energy-saving technologies, and encouraging the introduction of appropriate new technologies. Appropriate storing, handling and disposal of environmentally threatening substances (oil, petrol, paraffin, paints, chemicals and kitchen, campsite and toilet waste etc).allowing grass and wildflowers to grow in a predominantly undisturbed fashion on unused parts of the airfield. 2.4 Airfield Infrastructure IGC - WGC Application page 3

2.4.1 Briefing Room To be decided. There is possibilty of using one of hangars, aeroclub s briefing room, or main hall in the hotel depending on number of competitors and actual needs. 2.4.2 Common Room(s) for the competitors See in accomodation chapter. 2.4.3 Meeting Room for the Chief Steward and Steward Conference room for up to 8 people. Aeroclub s briefing room with WiFi connection. 2.4.4 Meeting Room for the International Jury To be decided, either conference room for up to 8 people, or aeroclub s briefing room (larger). 2.4.5 Press Centre 2.4.6 Communication and Wi-Fi capability WiFi provided in the hotel. Network throughput limited by provider capabilites. 2.4.7 Insurance availability for gliders Assistance with personal health insurance and third party liability insurance for gliders will be available before the competition on request. 2.4.8 Emergency (including fire) Firefighting and other ground rescue services are available from the city of Grudziadz. SAR coordination is provided by Rescue Coordination Centre in Warszawa. Nearest SAR unit is located at Łęczyca (EPLY) 160 km south from competitoin site 2.4.9 Medical and First Aid The nearest hospital is approximately 9 km from the airfield in the city of Grudziadz. Helicopter Emergency Medical Service is available from cities of Gdansk (100 km) and Bydgoszcz (70 km). 2.4.10 Conference and office rooms for the OSTIV Congress Not applicable 3. Accommodation and food for competitors (provide details of the following) 3.1 Accommodations available in the local area Aeroclub s hostel with capacity up to around 100 people in rooms of different standard (2-4 people, see: http://hostel.lisie.pl/ ) There are many rooms to rent in local area. 3.2 Camping facilities at or near the airfield Camping place at airfield with wifi and sanitation facilities provided. 3.3 Catering for competitors at the airfield including an indication of prices IGC - WGC Application page 4

Catering provided at the airfield (breakfast+dinner at around 10 eur per day). There is also bar and BBQ place available.. 4. Competition area (provide details of the following) 4.1 Topography in the contest area Northen Poland is mostly flatland, with small hils. Elevation is in 0-150 m amsl range. Vistula river is about 6km to the west of airfield. Typical cross country fyling is to the west and east of Lisie Kąty. Further to the west there is big forest complex of Bory Tucholskie. To the east, there is about 50 km of flatland and then forests and lakes of Masuria region. Stunning sights with enough outlanding areas for safe competing. 4.2 A comprehensive survey of meteorological conditions Northen Poland s forests are coniferous they work as good thermal source, mainly in later hours. Typical cloudbase is 1500-2000 meters, with up to 3000 meters on particulary good days. With main wind direction around 300-330 often long cloudstreets are forming over forest areas. It allows to fly long tasks with good speeds even with weak lifts. On hot days, one can expect strong lifts and sinks of over 5m/s over Bory Tucholskie forest. 4.3 Airspace restrictions in the contest area There is TMA of EPGD Airport to the north, along with EPMB Military ATZ airspace. Closest restricted airspace is around 20km from Lisie Kąty. To the south, EPBY TMA, about 50km from Lisie. 4.4 Typical tasks to be expected With experienced tasksetter even weak days can be flown with 100km+ racing or 1:15+ AAT task. Typical day gives no problems for Club class to fly 250-300 km with 90+ km/h task. Good day allows for 600+ km and 100+ km/h flights for Standard class, if towed early enough. 5. Rules 5.1 Default options in Annex A are:- 5.1.1 Starting procedures Start Line 5.1.2 Tasks Racing and Speed AAT 5.1.3 Finish procedures Finish Ring Justify any deviation from these options. 5.2 Indicate any particular conditions or possible restrictions that may be applied that would make it difficult for an individual or a team to attend the proposed venue: 5.2.1 For pilots and crews 5.2.2 For sailplane and equipment 5.3 Number of competitors: IGC - WGC Application page 5

5.3.1 State the maximum number of competitors that may be entered in the competition 100 competitors. 5.3.1.1 Provide explanation for this number and proposals for safe seperation of classes. Runway length with 18m class at the back of the grid is main limit purpose. Up to 50 competitors in each class with general limit of 100 gliders. Tasks can have different start points and classes can be towed to the different sides of airfield. Both sides provide generally the same gliding and thermal conditions so classes shouldn t migrate on one side. 6. Costs (provide details of the following costs in Euros or USD) 6.1 Entry fee 750 EUR 6.1.1 Services included in the entry fee - Organization - ICAO map - turn points database - results service - meteorogical information - photocopy of briefing, meteorological and results charts - Wi-Fi Internet Access - Medals, trophies and diplomas 6.1.2 Cost of aero tows 49 EUR 6.2 Rental cars and availability with tow hitch N/A 6.3 Accommodation Availibility and Costs for teams 6.3.1 Airfield Hostel Airfield hostel room with common bathroom for 15 eur eur per day/person. 6.3.2 Airfield Hostel Airfield hostel apartments with bathroom 25 eur for day/person. 6.3.3 Airfield Hostel Apartaments Private apartament 50 eur for day/person 6.3.4 Airfield Restaurant Menu prices will be prepared 6.3.5 Camping (if not included in entry fee) 10 eur for tent or caravan + 5 euro for person per day. 6.4 Provide an indicative example for the expected total costs during the contest period for a pilot with 2 crew members 750 EUR + 5 training + 10 competition tows for 49 EUR = 1485 EUR. Three beds and food in aeroclub for three weeks (short training + competition). 3 x (10+10) x 21 = 1260 EUR. 2745 EUR total. 7. Glider Hiring (provide information on the following) 7.1 The availability of local gliders for hire We are offering help in finding gliders for hire in Poland. 7.2 The costs of hire Rental rate for Club class glider is around 500 EUR and Standrad class glider around 700 EUR per week. 7.3 Any restrictions on hire (e.g. license requirements) An EASA license is required to fly a glider registered in EASA member states (EU + Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland). Licenses issued outside the above mentioned countries need to be validated by the authority of the glider registration state. 8. Training 8.1 Provide details of any proposed training opportunities for teams and individuals prior to the Championships. Official training with tasks set by competition task setter is planned for about 5 days before contest flying. For longer training, aeroclub is running each day with at least 2 towplanes and winch. Normal cross-country flying with briefing at 9 o clock everyday is done. Pre WWGC is considered year before the Championships together with national or regional competition.
