With an approximate area of 4 sq. miles they present an imposing sight at dawn or sunset. It is here that you can practice some sports such as: resistance running, four wheeled motor biking, walks or simply to enjoy the magnificent sun with your family. Acatita Dunes (43.5 miles north of Francisco I Madero along the highway towards Químicas del Rey). Magnificent formations of fine sand created by erosion which present a spectacular landscape in the midst of the desert, where it is a real pleasure to walk or slide down its soft slopes. In this place you can observe spectacular sunsets which contrast with the golden tones of the dunes. Tobacco Cave The Tobacco Cave (Cueva del Tabaco), is a narrow opening sculpted by nature, in which important acts, papers, decrees and documents in general were kept for four months. These documents formed an important part of our regime of liberty and democracy. Don Benito Juárez and his family were given refuge in this place in a remote and dark cavity, where these archives were kept by brave and loyal men, followers of Juárez, during the civil war and until the Republic was restored.

The Bridge Of Ojuela It was in the 16th century when some conquistadors, and especially a Jesuit named Don Cervando de Ojuelos, discovered a mine in what we now know as the municipality of Mapimi. In 1898, a German engineer, called Santiago Minguín, built awooden bridge for transporting the minerals extracted from the mine. Both the mine and the bridge are named after Ojuelos. In order to arrive at the bridge take the highway to Chihuahua. 25 miles later, is the a village of Bermejillo, a short distance further, you turn left, taking the highway to Mapimí, where you will find a toll gate which marks the entrance to the bridge. Finally you need to travel 4.4 miles ascending along a narrow road. The Silent Zone Between the parallels 26 and 28, are The Bermuda Triangle, the Archipelago of Hawaii, the Island of Waho, the Sea of the Devil, Cape Kennedy, Tibet and the Pyramids of Egypt. These are enigmatic zones where exceptional phenomena occur which over time have awakened the interest of archaeologists and scientists. It is precisely on parallel 27 where, Coahuila, Durango and Chihuahua meet, that the Zone of Silence, or Trino Vertex, is located. It is a special place famous for possessing a magnetic force that obstructs the propagation of radio waves and attracts meteorites. It is a semidesert area which encompasses part of the states of Chihuahua, Coahuila and Durango, in the region of the Bolsón of Mapimí. There are fossils of marine animals, ammonites, radiolarians, sea urchins and starfish, bivalves, cephalopods y branchiopods some as much as 60 million years old. There are also crystallized mineral formations mainly of iron oxide identified as goethite and hematite. The area is ideal for camping, star-gazing, walks and collecting quartz ans small fossils. 9 10 Del Rosario Caverns In the vicinity of the Del Rosario mountain range, approximately 12.5 miles from Mapimí, you can appreciate extraordinary geological formations sculpted over time which, by means of accumulation and dissolving of salts, creating whimsical figures known as Chimneys, The Lovers, Castles, Thrones, Monsters, and others that possess a notable echo such as, Harp, Piano, Chords and Metals. In order to reach the Sierra del Rosario, where the caverns are found, you must take the turn off for the village of Vicente Suarez (7.5 miles) and then walk five more miles. These caverns, of incredible beauty, have admirable stalactite and stalagmite formations and a lake, which is incredible because of its depth. The total route inside the caverns is one third of a mile, on four levels with an average height of 20 ft. per level. This riverside place in Lerdo, provides incomparable landscape. Raymundo National Park This national park is situated on the side of the Nazas River, at the beginning of the Interoceanic Highway, about 1.8 miles southwest of the City of Lerdo, was declared national by a presidential decree in 1954. It is equipped with sport areas, children games, a snack bar, benches and barbeques. The park boasts beautiful scenery, especially after the rainy season. It is ideal for camping due to its abundant vegetation. Visitors can enjoy children s games, a small train, volleyball, basketball, football courts, and a skating rink. Lázaro Cárdenas Dam It has a capacity of 116,538 million cubic feet, The dam is 312 ft. high. The grayish-blue water lies on a bed of igneous rock. It is the biggest dam in México, and controls the immense water flow

coming from the Sierra Madre Occidental. It is the main supplier of this vital liquid for this area of the state. The Nazas River begins at the dam s sluice gates in the locality of El Palmito, at an altitude of 5,000 ft. above sea level. Its construction was started in 1930 and it was inaugurated during the presidency of Lázaro Cárdenas. The main activities are fishing, boat rides, rappel and rock climbing.
