At Saint Francis Xavier Cllege the implementatin f a RAP is fr all students, staff, parents and the wider cmmunity. Our aim is: t acknwledge and recgnise the cntributins f Abriginal and Trres Strait Islander peple, t acknwledge and develp relatinship between St Francis Xavier Cllege and the Ngunnawal peple, t have an envirnment where Australian Abriginal and Trres Strait Islander cultures are experienced and valued by all students, t prvide pprtunities fr Abriginal and Trres Strait Islander students t celebrate and embrace their heritage. Our schl: Saint Francis Xavier Cllege is a Years 7 t 12 ceducatinal Cathlic Cllege with an enrlment f arund 1200 students and 150 staff. Saint Francis Xavier Cllege began n Ngunnawal cuntry, in 1976. We were hused at Braddn Cathlic Girls High (nw knwn as Merici Cllege) until the building was cmpleted in 1977 in Flrey. It was a Year 7 t 10 Cathlic High Schl and in 1998 a lng-time dream was realised when permissin was given fr the Cllege t enrll students in Years 11 & 12. The first chrt f Year 12 students graduated, with distinctin, in 2002. SFX students are mainly frm Belcnnen and Gungahlin and it als prvides a pathway in Years 11 and 12 fr students frm Munt Carmel at Yass. We ffer a strng academic prgram, a diverse range f electives and pastral care. We seek fr each student t grw emtinally, scially, intellectually, spiritually and physically, supprted by the principles f the Cathlic Faith. Our missin is: LIVING the TRUTH LEADING with COURAGE LEARNING fr LIFE At Saint Francis Xavier Cllege We seek t be truthful and curageus peple wh nurture right relatinships, value learning and celebrate Christ s life-giving presence amng us. We bring ur visin t reality by wrking tgether as a cmmunity which reflects the curage f Francis Xavier. Saint Francis Xavier Cllege is an exciting place t be. We strive t be peple wh see the glass as half full, nt half empty. It is als a place where everyne in the cmmunity is encuraged t learn, t grw and t wrk twards a brighter future.

Our RAP: The Saint Francis Xavier Cllege RAP was started in 2011 and has been evlving since. Significant steps alng the way have included: A small initial wrking cmmittee was frmed t cmmence the prcess f creating a RAP in 2011, Whle Schl Assembly where RAPs and the prcess were explained t all the students, An invitatin was made t all students t cntribute t the RAP with ideas that they may have, Each student wh identified as Abriginal and/r Trres Strait Islander were cnsulted in the prcess as were their parents, Staff at SFX were asked t cmplete the Dare t Lead questinnaire and cnsulted abut apprpriate actins that the schl shuld be taking, All quiz respnses, ideas, cncepts and suggestins were cllated and frm that a raw list was made f actins, RA was cnsulted in regard t the raw list and they made valuable cntributins t the list, The list f actins was sent t the United Ngunnawal Elders Cuncil fr perusal and apprval, The Schl Bard ratified the RAP draft in Nvember 2012, A frmal cmmittee was established t mnitr and refresh subsequent RAPs.

1. Relatinships: SFXC believes gd relatinships are develped when all students celebrate the heritage and psitive experiences f Abriginal and Trres Strait Islander cultures and histries. By implementing the actins belw, we intend t develp a climate f equality and value fr all cultures at SFXC and t raise the prfile f ur Abriginal and Trres Strait Islander Cmmunity. Actin Respnsibility Timeline Measurable Target Establish a cmmittee t develp, mnitr, review and refresh the RAP. This cmmittee shuld include: The Assistant Schl principal Teachers/staff frm acrss stages and/r departments Students (Abriginal and Trres Strait Islander and nn- Indigenus) Abriginal and Trres Strait Islander cmmunity members (where pssible) Name the cmmittee Invite Abriginal and Trres Strait Islander representatives t sit n existing schl cmmittees. Include parents, teachers, students and cmmunity leaders. This applies nly where such cmmittees exist Build relatinships with ur schl s lcal Abriginal and Trres Strait Islander cmmunity. Cntact Teacher Principal and Cntact Teacher Term 1 RAP Cmmittee established. Term 1 Fur RAP Cmmittee meetings held each year ne per term. Minutes and actin items recrded fr all meetings. The RAP is reviewed and refreshed annually using Recnciliatin Australia s Tracking and Reprting tl. The cmmittee t have a name in Ngunnawal language Abriginal and Trres Strait Islander appintments t and/r designated Abriginal and Trres Strait Islander psitins n the: Bard members Student representative cuncil Scial Justice captains Schl Chaplain Cmmittee Term 3 Lcal Abriginal and Trres Strait Islander Traditinal Owners r Elders speak abut lcal histry and culture fr the area where the schl is lcated at schl assemblies r ther functins.

Term 3 Invite Ngunnawal elders t d a Welcme t Cuntry at an assembly thrughut the year. Term 2, Term 3 Build relatinships with Abriginal Trres Strait Islanders agencies such as Tjabal, Ngunnawal Centre, CIT Term 2, Term 3 Abriginal and Trres Strait Islander and nn-indigenus students visit lcal Abriginal and Trres Strait Islander sites r events f cultural significance, such as traditinal lands, cmmunities, exhibitins, festivals. We have rganized a cultural immersin - Warralng WA. 2014 Students vlunteer at lcal Abriginal and Trres Strait Islander services/rganisatins.² Develp a mutually beneficial relatinship with a sister schl that has a high Abriginal and Trres Strait Islander student ppulatin.² Cmmittee Term 3 Establish links with a sister schl Students participate in a pen pal exchange with Abriginal and Trres Strait Islander students at the sister schl. Cntact Teacher 2014 Student and parent visit scheme and exchange activities established between sister schls. This may include sprts, cultural, learning r skills sharing excursins and activities. Ensure all staff at ur schl are culturally educated, aware and respectful. 3. Opprtunities SFXC is cmmitted t creating pprtunities fr Abriginal and Trres Strait Islander children, families and cmmunities t participate in and cntribute t the high-quality educatin we ffer. We are als creating pprtunities fr all students t experience Indigenus Australian culture and giving pprtunity t Abriginal and Trres Strait Islander students t celebrate their heritage, t highlight psitive experiences and acknwledge the past. This Space will be a place where students can d wrk, have lunch, engage in mentring/ tutring, r just a place t be. It will have lcal artwrk r their artwrk and they will be cnsulted in what they need fr their Space. Cntact Teacher 2 hurs weekly in Assist classes with Abriginal and Trres Strait Islander students as required and in cnsultatin with students, parents and teachers.

Generally we hire peple wh are gd at engaging students, telling stries, display and explain artifacts. We have sught permissin frm UNEC fr perfrmers frm utside Ngunnawal cuntry t perfrm. Encuraging pre-service teachers t cmplete their placement here and seeking feedback int ways f making SFX a better schl/emplyer
